I am curious about Ezekiel chapter 8. I know that this book is prophetic and I have read commentaries that say a variety of different ideas as to the interpretation. I would appreciate any ideas you might have and possibly some answers to some questions that I have.

1 In the sixth year, in the sixth month on the fifth day, while I was sitting in my house and the elders of Judah were sitting before me, the hand of the Sovereign LORD came upon me there. 2 I looked, and I saw a figure like that of a man. From what appeared to be his waist down he was like fire, and from there up his appearance was as bright as glowing metal. 3 He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. The Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and in visions of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance to the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood.

Who is the idol that provokes to jealousy?

4 And there before me was the glory of the God of Israel, as in the vision I had seen in the plain.

5 Then he said to me, "Son of man, look toward the north." So I looked, and in the entrance north of the gate of the altar I saw this idol of jealousy.
6 And he said to me, "Son of man, do you see what they are doing—the utterly detestable things the house of Israel is doing here, things that will drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see things that are even more detestable."
7 Then he brought me to the entrance to the court. I looked, and I saw a hole in the wall. 8 He said to me, "Son of man, now dig into the wall." So I dug into the wall and saw a doorway there.
9 And he said to me, "Go in and see the wicked and detestable things they are doing here." 10 So I went in and looked, and I saw portrayed all over the walls all kinds of crawling things and detestable animals and all the idols of the house of Israel. 11 In front of them stood seventy elders of the house of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan was standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising.
12 He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, 'The LORD does not see us; the LORD has forsaken the land.' " 13 Again, he said, "You will see them doing things that are even more detestable."

Do these detestable things speak of the church today? If so, what are they speaking about?

14 Then he brought me to the entrance to the north gate of the house of the LORD, and I saw women sitting there, mourning for Tammuz. 15 He said to me, "Do you see this, son of man? You will see things that are even more detestable than this."
16 He then brought me into the inner court of the house of the LORD, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east. 17 He said to me, "Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial matter for the house of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the land with violence and continually provoke me to anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose! 18 Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them."

In Christ,
John

I think the detestable things were the idols worshipped in the temple. It could be prophetic today.

I'd like to know what this means in verse 17: Look at them putting the branch to their nose! that seems to be the straw that broke the camel's back.

Who is the idol that provokes to jealousy?
After doing research (see the following) I found the following idol to be a likely explanation following: the Mother Goddess (A Syrian idol-called Tammus/Tammuz.
I have always believed that God has always given the answer somewhere in the Bible. Two accounts are better than one. Having said that I started with Strong's Bible. Which then referenced the Syrian idol. A Syrian idol (Ezekiel 8:14) referencing Tammus (also spelled Tammuz). 14 Then he brought me to the entrance to the north gate of the house of the LORD, and I saw women sitting there, mourning for Tammuz.

The following url shows a picture of Syrian idol.
Religious representations - Syrian Idol of the Steatopygic type -
The long description of the history of the idol fits well with many references in the Bible of women who were jealous of other women who could bare children. The following is a portion of that history description:
"One of the theories most commonly accepted places steatopygic statuettes in context with the religious sphere : they would be closely related to (or would represent) the Mother Goddess who, during the Prehistoric period, would have been a major mythological figure protecting human fecundity as well as fields and herds fertility ; this figure would have been worshiped in a very wide and varied area, ranging from Near East to Western Central Europe."
Also found in scripture this one reference to grain and idol that also would appear to line up of the above reference that the figure would protect fields and herds fertility.

Isaiah 66:2-4 (New King James Version)

2 For all those things My hand has made,
And all those things exist,”
Says the LORD.

“ But on this one will I look:
On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit,
And who trembles at My word.
3 “ He who kills a bull is as if he slays a man;
He who sacrifices a lamb, as if he breaks a dog’s neck;
He who offers a grain offering, as if he offers swine’s blood;
He who burns incense, as if he blesses an idol
.
Just as they have chosen their own ways,
And their soul delights in their abominations,
4 So will I choose their delusions,
And bring their fears on them;
Because, when I called, no one answered,
When I spoke they did not hear;
But they did evil before My eyes,
And chose that in which I do not delight
.”

Before i will even start to reply to your post, I would like to try to help clarify through me not by me, Jesus the Christ willing, what people born

1948 is just after the end of WW2, the final scattering, It is the year also that the Good & Bad Fig-Tree was sent forth from Jerusalum; The year The

WHY this would be so important! HE does wish ALL would come to repentance!!!

All down through flesh time, these are ALL the Generations of Faithkeepers, Until 1948; Then After a 40 year spiritual blindness, To the True WORD OF

GOD, Then the Latter rain would BEGIN to Fall, You know, gently, little by little. Until WE were Litte tender shoots, that would never bring forth fruit,

Almost, but it is Over before WE are Able; It is stated that WE are to be wiser than the serpent, So GOD would Naturally fill his Children in on the

what they were able to understand,(though not ALL) of GOD'S WORD. After all,you wouldn't want to wreck a BIG SURPRISE for EVERYBODY would you?

US born After 1948, are to get OUR Strength Day by Day, Studying to show OURSELVES approved, Rightly Dividing, The WORD of GOD!

It is about the house of Israel and them doing things wrong in the sight of God and not the Church.

Ezekiel was sent to Israel to prophesy to them so it would not prosper him to know about the Church in the last days.

The Church is nowhere near as bad as Israel was when God sent Ezekiel to them.

If it was the Church God would address us about the matter seeing He already warned us of the future and to stay right with Him.

God already told us in the New Testament the condition of the Church.

It will become bad during the one world religious system when they will allow all people to worship whatever they want to worship and whoever they want to worship and say that all religions are compatible and that is why it is known as the Mystery,Babylon the Great,the Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth,but Ezekiel was not about the Church and God already warned us what to stay away from which is all religions but His.

I do believe that Ezekiel was prophesying about the future of God's people (that includes us) and of His church. We see increasing evidence of sin and corruption in the church today. There are sexual scandals, financial scandals, fraud, self-righteousness, gossips, murder, child-molestation, perversions and so forth in the church today.

With the majority of the world using the internet as it's primary news source and the availability of broadcast news to allmost every part of the world; these scandals go worldwide within hours.

If every beiiever was brutally honest with themselves; they would have to admit that they have a "private" sin that they keep secret. I think Ezekiel got it right and the time is now for the church to clean it's house in preparaion for Christ's return..

In Christ,
John

What is an idol? Is it not something that a person looks to as either their god, or a representation of their god.

God Himself placed His presence in the temple, according to His covenant with His people. The people, almost constantly, rather than worship God, whose presence was among them, (although mostly unapproachable by the people themselves,) instead worshiped idols that represented other gods.

The church has been given the Spirit of God to live in and on her, and unrestricted access to His presence, and even more, to His holy place within the veil. But she worships representations of God, rather than enter into His presence, rather than trust and worship in the Spirit, rather than fellowship with the Creator of all things, their Father.

Whereas in their day, God removed His presence from the temple, from among the people, He has promised not to take away His Spirit from us. But, He will punish those who do not see past the trappings of the things which represent Him, to draw near to Him through Jesus, which is what His whole purpose is, to have a people who love Him.

Yes, this passage is very prophetic. There are many parallels between the church and the children of Israel.

I am curious about Ezekiel chapter 8. I know that this book is prophetic and I have read commentaries that say a variety of different ideas as to the interpretation. I would appreciate any ideas you might have and possibly some answers to some questions that I have.

The Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and in visions of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance to the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood.

Who is the idol that provokes to jealousy?
I do not think it was speaking of a specific idol, I think it was talking about idolatry in the house of God. I think it speaks to us on two levels. First, regarding our own hearts and the idols that can creep in. When God said, You shall not have any other gods before me, He was saying that we are not to have anything that is a god to us. It was not a commandment of priority, but of singularity. When we begin to serve anything, it is a god to us, even if we give God priority. Second, in the church, that idolatry can creep in. It is not statuary that he is speaking to. It could be materialism or pastor-worship or legalism.

4 And there before me was the glory of the God of Israel, as in the vision I had seen in the plain.

5 Then he said to me, "Son of man, look toward the north." So I looked, and in the entrance north of the gate of the altar I saw this idol of jealousy.

I agree that the spirit of Jezebel is alive in the church with all the new-age rituals and beliefs. The abominations that the church allows for the sake of being PC. There are denominations that have sold themselves out to the world and they have no resemblance at all to the purity that Christ has called for.

Jealousey is a part of her and the people are so jealous. Control freaks trying to stand up on the boxes they put themselves on trying to promote themselves as better than others in the church.

WE should be binding these demons always is what the Lord shows me and watch the power of God work it so cool.

Jezebel is a controlling spirit and a dominant or high ranking spirit. As such, she has authority over numerous demonic spirits. It is hard to attack her directly but she is also defeated with Satan. Because of that she can be brought down but only by prayer and fasting. (Mark 9:29)

She was also the queen that ordered Elijah's death and caused him to flee into the wilderness out of fear for his life. She uses fear as a weapon. Understanding her history can give us insight into how to defeat her.

In Christ,
John

What works pretty good is to tell the troublemaker to go and try not have the door hit him or her in the but on the way out. If there is life in your church you can be sure they won't give up by a long shot. These kinds of things need to be taken care of and not messed around with they will kill your church and go on to the next church to kill it. (that is if it has life in it, they are not after dead Churches)

I did some closer study on this and I saw a progression. Idolatry begins outside the temple, as a side issue. Then it moves into the secret rooms, as we begin to secretly cherish this "idol". Next we begin to rely upon it, as the women crying to Tammus--a ritual that was to bring the end of winter and the beginning of fertility. Finally, we are bowing with our back to the presence of God.
