Yes, our human spirit is positionally perfect, but still is in the process of being cleansed. (2 Cor. 7:1). The Holy Spirit, who lives in us is the Perfect Spirit.

I might be mistaken, but I always took this to be the people who have finished the race already, the cloud of witnesses, in Hebrews 11:1. Not to say our spirits are not sealed and positionally perfect, which I agree with

I believe our spirits are sealed and positionally sanctified and perfect, but yet still being cleansed. (2 Cor. 7:1).

2 Corinthians 7:1- Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Positional vs practical sanctification.

I would disagree with that....we are BORN again from above by INCORRUPTIBLE SEED....it is the mind and body that need to be sanctified, transformed and cleansed......

If the bolded is true...and it is...why do they need to be cleansed?

It wouldn't be right If I let this go.
I know you don't mean this to blaspheme GOD but here Is scripture that says the spirits of JUST men were made perfect.

Hebrews 12:23
King James Version

23To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

Who made the spirits of just men perfect?
When the bible says we are HIS workmanship, HIS workmanship means GODs workmanship.

Not a challenge, but a question. What did Paul mean when he said “ let us cleanse ourself from all filthiness of flesh AND SPIRIT.

I know there is more than one meaning of pneuma. Which meaning applies to 1 Cor 7:1?

We are come to (into fellowship with?)with the spirits of just (righteous) men who are made perfect.

There are two possible direct objects of the verb “made”. The spirits of the men or the men.

Is it possible that “have come to” is connected to spirits and “made perfect with the noun “men”

We are come to the spirits...

Of just men made perfect.

Made perfect is speaking of the men whose spirits we have been brought into fellowship

Because we are exhorted to cleanse ourselves not only body, but also spirit in 2 Cor 7:1

If someone can exegete 2 Cor. 7:1 in a way that allows for perfected, sinless, human spirits, I am willing to be corrected

1st Corinthians 7:1 ===>Now concerning the things about which you wrote, it is good for a man not to touch a woman.

As far as God’s workmanship, what I said does not deny this in the least. Philippians 2 says “God works in us to will and to do of His Good pleasure. This applies to faith, it applies to repentance, it applies to obedience and sanctification, it is God who works in all and through all

And we ARE exhorted to cleanse ourselves of all sin of flesh AND spirit. And it is God who works in us causing us to will and to do it, which is His Good pleasure

So all glory goes to the author and finisher of our faith

So if someone will exegete 2 Corinthians 7:1 in a way that supports our spirits no longer needing cleansing, I am willing to be corrected by the Word of God

Boy, you talk about me being a smart aleck. Did you not read the partial quote of the verse, or are you wholly unfamiliar with 2 Cor 7:1

Mocking someone over a typo is cheap

Positional versus practical sanctification. We are declared fully righteous, but there are still things that are being cleansed for fellowship and increased fruitfulness

Sorry, I see on second reading you were kidding and not mocking. Sorry for the misunderstanding

So post 856 answers an excellent question you brought up. Are we in agreement on what I said there?

2 Cor 7:1 is still on the table

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

I personally believe he is not taking about that which has been born from above by incorruptible seed or that spirit which does not sin....

I think he is talking about what we do and say.......This is covered also under not letting corrupt communication proceed from our mouth.....our two witnesses <--what we do and or say.........

pneuma: wind, spirit
Original Word: πνεῦμα, ατος, τό
Part of Speech: Noun, Neuter
Transliteration: pneuma
Phonetic Spelling: (pnyoo'-mah)
Definition: wind, spirit
Usage: wind, breath, spirit.
