What better way for the false prophets of today to have their way with God's people? Many of them have already got brethren to think all the OT Books are dead history with no need to study them. Why not the rest of God's Holy Writ too?

Those ways of thinking are a sign for us of Christ's faithful who will stand to the end. We will keep studying all... of God's Holy Writ in understanding by The Holy Spirit, and let others think it's The Holy Spirit that is guiding them when it's actually "another spirit" influencing them (2 Cor.11; Gal.1:7-8).
You think I said somewhere that OT should not be read...?
I don't understand how a person knowing that the Holy Spirit is a necessity above scripture becomes that they are saying don't read the bible.

I mean, I get that some people think that's what's being said, I just don't understand how they GET to that conclusion...

Just scratching my head on this one...

A better way of describing this is loyalty to people above following Jesus. In a church I used to go to, whatever the pastor supported, certain members would go with it, because they had more faith in the pastor than the truth or otherwise he was preaching.

I have seen it here where certain celebrity preachers cannot be questioned about their theology, because they are above the normal believer and cannot be challenged except by other celebrity preachers. That is loving people instead of the truth.

Some use the word religion as a curse, as if religion defines something not Christian, when religion just means ideas and language around God or the purpose of life.

It is being used to discredit Christian history or theology, saying they are not "religious" but real, and religious people are legalists and wrong. It is a way of cursing people and saying this is evil but these ideas over here are good.

It is the same as using the word corrupt. This has been corrupted, over here, but this is the pure truth over there.

You know this is wrong when the actual contents of what they are defining does not exist, but used as a way of discrediting people without engaging in real discussion. It is like a poison being spread, that attempts to split assemblies and root out the evil people

Some people care more about relationships than what God wants so they looked at the Christian church as an Etch a Sketch and they started holding it upside down in order to erase the history of the church.

I was in a Church that did a study that more people would come to church if the name "Baptist" was not on the Church so they took the name "Baptist" off the Church.

They got rid of the choir because they had to get rid of the old people to get new ones to come.

They got rid of our get togethers like having soup for all believers because people brought in ideas and traditions that they didn't want to have. They also got rid of the Thanksgiving Feast and Women's retreat.

They got rid of church gatherings on Superbowl Sunday because it was promoting other Christian speakers and they wanted to draw away the disciples to themselves because their people can make more money by having us listen to them instead of Christians at Superbowl events.

They made us watch church simulcasts instead of read the word and hear the word. There were days when people stopped bringing their Bible to church. I used to ask people what they learned and they couldn't tell me.

I remember listening to them one Sunday tell me that sin between two individuals should be forgiven because sin is just a misunderstanding.

I remember the pastor asking me why I was there for one of his classes. I said I was there to learn and he rebuked me because he said that he wasn't going to teach me anything because knowledge puffeth up.

I hope you don't go to a church like this but there are over 5,000 in the United States.

Jesus is love and ALWAYS tell everyone the truth.
If you are not willing to tell anyone the truth, are you really loving them as Jesus loves them?

Jesus had a lot of strong words for people. He told people to repent and His followers told people to repent.

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Acts 17:30.

1 Thessalonians 1:9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

They can't turn to God unless they turn from something. They say they want to love as Christ loved but turning to God from sin is a prerequisite to loving like Jesus. They still have to do the first step and turn from their sin before they can love like Jesus.

Christianity is about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and not legalistic, religious bondage to a false religion.

There it is, finally...! Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

It should be easy to grasp. God created the heavens and the earth. So does that involve religion, or Truth? It involves Truth of course, and is not something man should make a religion out of, even though some have by worshiping the creation instead of The Creator...
Hi again DP,

I didn't express myself very well in the previous post. To put it plainly, I feel it's an arbitrary distinction. Religion is just a word, unnecessarily stigmatized. I suppose what I actually don't understand is the offense that people take to it.

How the world defines the word religion:
Here's how Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines it (further below). In the simplest definition, it's simply about belief in God, or in gods. Or it can be a system of organized beliefs, ceremonial practice, or rules of worship of God, or of gods.

There is only One True GOD, but peoples have believed on many gods throughout history. Some believe that all the different religions of the world are only different 'paths'... to the same GOD.

But Christianity declares there is only One Way of Salvation, not many paths, and that One Way is only through believing on the Blood of Jesus Christ, Immanuel (God with us), sacrificed upon His cross. And that is unique ONLY to Christianity.

Thus there cannot be many truths in that, but only One Truth. Fake gods of wood, metal, and stone cannot save. Only The One GOD can save, and Jesus Christ (God with us Who came in the flesh to die on the cross) is The Savior.

When we look at that unique act our Lord Jesus did for us upon His cross, it represents The Truth, not simply religion which is initiated by us based on our belief(s). Man can play religion all his life, but without believing on Christ's Sacrifice on the cross as The Truth, then they are only practicing religion, and have yet to come to the only Truth that can save us, The Blood of Jesus Christ.

Simple Definition of religion

  • : the belief in a god or in a group of gods
  • : an organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used to worship a god or a group of gods
  • : an interest, a belief, or an activity that is very important to a person or group
