What is your favourite books in the Bible and why? Feel free to include OT and NT. Sometimes it's hard to pick just one.

I always love hearing people's responses to this question... Cool to see what others enjoy!

I would have to say and these are not necessarily in any order. 1) Ephesians 2) Colossians 3) Galatians 4) Romans 5) John's gospel

This Advent season I've grown quite fond of Hebrews too.

Argh! There are so many. I'll go with the ones that I've consistently loved (most from my childhood to now).

OT
Genesis
Exodus
Job
Judges
Proverbs
Ecclesiastes
Isaiah
Jonah
Daniel

NT
John
Romans
Ephesians (truthfully, all of the epistles bleed into one after awhile)
Revelation

I love all of the epistles for different reasons and at different levels, but I struggle to get more enthused about the gospels: Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Because it often seems like the Gospels are the only part of the Bible that the Church focuses on.

Bel and the Dragon made me roar with laughter. And Maccabees 1 is a great piece of historical writing (it's just not inspired). I haven't read all of the other writings, but they don't call to me like the 66 do.

Judges! I don't know if I had anyone ever answer with Judges... Cool! :)

I'm a huge fan of Ecclesiastes and Job in the OT. Nice to see them making other people's lists too.

For a New Testament course I took we had to write our own Biblical commentaries on the meaning of the text chapter by chapter.

I found the Gospels to be, by far, the toughest leg of the journey. The way they're written and overall sequence of events didn't test my faith, but I was somewhat disappointed. Something just didn't go together and I felt really, really bad because most people I knew at Church growing up zeroed in on the Gospels.

Then I made it to the Epistles and all really became clear. I realized where the Gospels fit, you know? In a way no introduction to the books could tell me.

God be praised for that fateful meeting on the road to Damascus.

Truth be told there is no great theological conviction behind the Judges choice. I love the poetic portions. The Song of Deborah is probably one of the most beautifully written parts of the Bible and it's so overlooked.

I've only read the 66... I'm just gonna keep it simple for myself and stick to those. Maybs one day I will venture out, but can't seem to get enough of what I have already! I don't know much about all the other books that weren't included in the 66, other than a couple google searches when I can't get to sleep... Lolol

Its funny because I immediately thought of Deborah when I read your post. I've only read Judges a handful of times and don't know it quite so well. Not one that I keep going back to... Hmm... Maybs I will take a dip back into Judges soon. Perhaps more treasure for me to find (there always is!).
Thanks for the unintentional recommendation to my reading... :)

Sure thing, mate. If you did want to read Bel and the Dragon though, you should be able to find a decent translation on the Internet. And it's only 2 pages long, so it's a super-quick read.

I just find Judges to be terribly sad and exciting. That's why I love it so. It's a great example of what happens to God's people when everyone does what is right in their own eyes.

Exactly! It's sort of like LOST (the TV series) when it featured flashbacks. The main story is there but incomplete (the gospels) and the flashbacks (the epistles) fill in all of the details and round out the characters. Holy Spirit was ahead of the times! Haha!

Roman's. It has the best single line verses of any book in the bible in my opinion. 1st Kings has interesting stories as well.
