Agree. Jesus Himself seemed to wish that there could be found an easier way, but none was there to be had...

God is almighty, and nothing is impossible for Him. He chose His salvation plan for mankind. I would not pretend to second guess His reasons, decisions, for His ways are not our ways, and we will never be even close to as intelligent as Him.

He could have done whatever He wished, but He chose the salvation plan for mankind as laid out in Scripture. I would not question God. That did not work out for any of the peoples in Scripture that did question Him.
