Wow ... that struck me as something an atheist would say ... only you insert something like "well, if all else fails, might as well give God a shot".

I have never met someone caught in the middle like that ... a house divided???

If GOD tells you to do something and gives you the ability to do it, how is it a house divided to do that thing? What you do is who you love.

Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. The self-effort D.I Y. mindset is at odds with living from the life of Christ within us. They view it as "them" doing it and not the life of God in them altho they can mask it when they sometimes use words like - God, Word, Spirit etc. in their speech. - but in reality they are relying on themselves...this is where they come up with terms "then their only hope is for GOD to intervene somehow"...it reveals where their real trust and life is in and it is not really in Christ alone.

True!...I like how one of our brothers ( JesusIsAll ) put it...he called that yo-yo salvation as a "saved cycle"..if you do good enough deeds then you are in a "saved cycle" and if not then you are out again...he says this kind of a mindset's only hope is to die while in a " saved cycle "..or they are not going to heaven...it's crazy when you actually think of it...let alone it violates the integrity of what Jesus said and what He has already done for us in His finished work. They have complete distain for the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I'm sorry I didn't see this post earlier for some reason. Are you OSAS? I was taught as a child that people who believed in OSAS thought they could just totally disregard the word of God and still be saved. I was told they went around blatantly sinning and didn't even care about the word of God. So I shied away from OSAS, but a couple of years ago I met someone who explained it to me and it was nothing like what I had been told. He said that OSAS believed that OSAS didn't mean that you could use grace as a cloak just so you could keep sinning, it actually meant that you were transformed through grace and faith in God. He was a really good guy and was a light to me.

It is all by grace through faith in what Christ has already done for us. That is a false accusation that says grace believers or OSAS say it's ok to do whatever you want. That is not the gospel of grace of Christ. Sin is destructive and will affect your life here on this earth and always hurt those around us. It destroys the witness of Jesus in our lives.

The true grace of God reaches us how to live godly in this present world. The self/righteousness/holiness mindset is that they are changing themselves to create righteousness or to maintain it. But when we find out about the true grace of Christ - we grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ in us and His life is what transforms us. It's struggle free when we know that we are safe in Him. This releases His life in us to go on to maturity. With security brings maturity.

This may help to bring some light on the grace of our Lord..

There are 2 aspects to grace. First our Lord deals with the religious people that want to pronounce the law on her and to stone her. He reveals their self righteousness and they go away.

1) acceptance grace - which has nothing to do with our behavior - as seen with the woman caught in adultery. Our Lord beautifully says " I do not condemn you".

It is in knowing you are not condemned that releases the other aspect of grace.

2) now, go and sin no more - this is empowering grace.

Empowering grace enables you to be who the Father sees you are in Christ now because of what Christ has done for us.


The religious mindset says to the woman caught in adultery - 'Do not sin and we will not condemn you." The grace of God and the blood of Jesus speaks of better things!

Knowing that we are not condemned in Christ "releases" the life of the empowering grace to transform us. It's all about Christ! It's His fruit being manifested in us!

 Acceptance grace which is not based on our behavior needs to be cemented in our hearts before empowering grace is able to be manifested in total security.


What believers in a self-effort/self-performance D.I.Y. holiness/righteousness based gospel have a very hard time with is the "acceptance grace" part...this just drives them nuts...and I understand why..it is scandalous!

I think that is why I have felt like a failure so many times in my life...Because I did try to rely upon myself and not the grace of God. Sometimes I would run well and feel like I was on cloud 9 and seem to get lifted up in myself at those times I always fell and great was my fall. Looking back on it now I know it was God's way of showing me that I am nothing within myself and should not glory in myself..But I should depend upon him and glory in his power and might...because I am nothing without him and his grace.

I'm glad that I have met you; you are a light.

"Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord." Jer 9:23-24

No room for DIY!

My friend, just be careful of the folks here on CC that teach salvation by works. Every person I have had conversations with who did not believe salvation was secure, I have found they are trusting in their own works for salvation!

The flesh which operates by sense knowledge wants all the credit and the spirit which operates by faith also wants all the credit but the flesh does not give life, the spirit gives life.

A person either gives themself the credit or give GOD the credit but not both.

Once the person Is reborn then renew the mind.
