Do we need to know the mechanics of it, or just the fact it happens?
- Matthew 3:11: "He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit"
- Mark 1:8: "He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit"
- Luke 3:16: "He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit"
Romans 8-9
My perspective (if I'm wrong, I apologize, but, also, clarify it for me, and show me a better way) on the phrase "not in the flesh but in the spirit" (Ro 8:9):
If we (our inner persons) were "in the flesh", we would be "mastered by sin", but, because the "husband" (the flesh) died (Ro 7), we (our inner persons) were free to "marry" another, Christ, so we share in His crucifixion death and resurrection, and we are "one Spirit with Him" Who has "become a life-giving spirit", so we are "in the spirit".
Romans 7
24What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I serve the law of God, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
Romans 8
10If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
