Yes, the gospel affirms that you are saved eternally, But the gospel, in its self, does not save us eternally.
Apostle Paul said this...
24 Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine
lashes. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep. 26
I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from
my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren; 27
I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. 28 Apart from
such external things, there is the daily pressure on me
of concern for all the churches. 29 Who is weak without my being weak? Who is led into sin without my intense concern?(2 Cor. 11)
And he also wrote...
3 Suffer hardship with
me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel, 9 [
c]for which I suffer hardship even to imprisonment as a criminal; but the word of God is not imprisoned. 10 For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus
and with
it eternal glory.(2 Tim. 2)
Apostle Paul suffered from many things, from the hands of many people, to spread the gospel you so flippantly mock.
