Given that Harry Potter is over two decades old, what has prompted you to raise the subject?
The movies are played all the time. I hear students talking about them often. I believe as the day draws near, there will be and has been a rise in the subject.

I was rebelling in my life when raising my sons. At the time, even their mother was enjoying our lifestyle. Long story short, I sat through 6 Harry Potter movies just like that. But the thing that caught my attention the most, what I would see from the next episode, was how Harry as an infant is going to be killed and is saved last minute, then Harry faces these dilemma's and has to solve the riddles. Those movies were Viewing Harry Potter like the Son of God.

Israel had those who toyed with Baal too.

1 Kings 18:21 CSB
[21] Then Elijah approached all the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him. But if Baal, follow him." But the people didn't answer him a word.

You find recreation and entertainment in things that are an abomination to God?
It is your opinion that they are an abomination to God and not necessarily a scriptural fact. For the record though, I have never read or saw any Harry Potter material so really don't know if I were to find it an offense to God or not. Most likely, I would just consider it fiction and something that may or may not be worth reading.

Deuteronomy 18
9 When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

I don't think the magic in Harry Potter (and similar books like LOTR, Wizard Merlin from King Authur, etc.) is the same type of magic discussed in the Bible. I haven't read Harry Potter but I understand it is similar to LOTR. The magic in the fictional books is more along the lines of Abra Kadabra/Open Sesame type. The magic in the Bible is more associated with the demonic. I know the lines can be blurry I don't think the magic in fictional books go this far. Most of these books have a good vs. evil archetype. I think what is worse is when the books don't have good vs. evil archetype, such as Game of Thrones where even evil is seen as "normal"/accepted.

Should believers have anything to do with books and movies such as Harry Potter?
If Dr. Seuss can be banned, why not ban Harry Potter and his creator? Which is more evil.

My view of all sorcery, witchcraft, occult.......just street peddlers selling trinkets....some of us look and buy but, we ALL know if you really want the REAL spiritual stuff, it will cost you EVERYTHING....just as Christ gave EVERYTHING!

Don’t be fooled by the “spiritual realm” when you can inherit the “Heavenly Realm!” as a Child of God!

Amen, sister. Let's not be swatting at the leaves when we ought to be laying the axe to the root.

I thoroughly enjoyed and was spiritually edified by all of the CS Lewis books, btw.

I think CS Lewis showed us both the Spiritual Realm AND the Heavenly Realm....the Heavenly Realm always triumphs!

He made us aware of both and taught us NOT to be deceived.

The sad part of it all is that the vast majority of witchcraft, wizards ect. is from superstition. It seems to be the new fad so to speak at the moment but it came and went all through history. If anyone ever has need to research it to help a loved one, friend ect. who fell into it what they'll find is that most of it is just superstition other than the potions, salves ect. which are drugs, poisons ect. and are very dangerous if they begin to use them in their magic.

If you look up (henbane, detura, mandrake, belladonna) ect. you'll find even a larger list of herbs, flowers ect. that they use to make salves and potions with which are poisonous and/or hallucinogenic drugs. So for instance if they put it on crystals, stones ect. and hand it to you, you will paint it all over yourself(absorbed into skin) without knowing you are. In the old days they put it on saddles or on cups before serving you or in food then after it began to work the magic, spells ect. began. Google the names(in combination with witchcraft) and you'll realize it's a far more serious threat than most average people think. Be very careful around people you think are involved with witchcraft, pagan, ect.

Can you do it in the name of Jesus? How does Jesus feel about wizards?
Romans 14:22-23
22Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. 23And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

If God is convicting you to not watch Harry Potter then don't watch it. If we are talking about things not from faith, though, then the list is long and exhaustive. It includes way more things than just Harry Potter and even some things that may surprise you.

Star wars is another one. Not sure why people are into that light sabre stuff, looks like sorcery to me.
Twilight
Dr suess was kinda racist.

Thing is there are heaps of things out there. But you know, instead of moaning about it why not tell your own stories for children that they will want to read. Make your own movies.
