John 6:38 . . I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but
the will of Him who sent me

John 8:29 . . He that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me
alone; for I do always those things that please Him.

John 14:31 . . I do exactly what my Father has commanded me.

God is not only Jesus' tutor, but also his role model. For example: the Father
has entrusted all judgment to His son (John 5:22) For that reason, people
really ought to be scared of Christ because he intends to go about the
business of judging no differently than the fire and brimstone practices of
the God of the Old Testament, by whom Jesus has been trained to take the
reins.

Isa 11:4-5 . . He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the
breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Righteousness will be his belt and
faithfulness the sash around his waist.

John 10:30 . . I and my Father are unified.
_
So there goes the "Jesus is my best friend" stuff. Jesus wants to strike us down, send us to the fiery pit to burn for all eternity. People have this mistaken idea that the God of the OT was harsh, and cruel, and unforgiving; and that Jesus is warm, loving, kind; Jesus will forgive you a billion times.
This is where I get confused. I thought Jesus died on the cross to save sinners. But it seems no matter what we do, we're still condemned. We can never be perfect on our own - and God knows this - so he sent his son as a sacrifice, as payment for all our sins. And yet, no matter what we do, we can't stop sinning. Once we claim the title of "Christian", our walk must be perfect; if we keep stumbling, that means we are not saved, we don't have Jesus with us, so we're condemned. So it seems to me that Jesus' death on the cross was all in vain, if his sacrifice was not enough to save us. We live in a world full of traps and snares; you may go to church on Sunday, and commit your life to Christ, but there are false teachers everywhere (especially on the internet), bad Bible translations; the world is full of sin, how do you avoid it? Become a hermit? I guess I can decide I will only listen to the Christian radio station, and watch the Christian tv station; maybe I will stop going to my barber, because he's not a Christian, and he might put wrong ideas in my head; I wonder if there is a Christian grocery store in my neighborhood? I don't want to go to Safeway or Kroger and buy products from unbelievers; I hope the person who drives the bus that takes me to work everyday is a Christian, because he might be driving me to hell. And my employer - I know they're not true Christians, because they're pushing the 'woke' agenda. I'd be better off trying to get a job Chick Fil-A or Hobby Lobby.
I used to think Jesus died for the broken, the lost, the hopeless, the widow, the orphan, the poor. The more I read here, though, it seems like died for the righteous, the ones who already have it all figured out, the Pharisees who claim to walk in upright ways. If that's the case, then I am doomed, because I don't claim to be close to perfection; I don't claim to be more holy or righteous than all the heathens I'm surrounded by everyday. In fact, I don't see heathens, sinners, evildoers; I see human beings doing their best to get by.
Yeah, I know, that's not enough.

I have never been able to comply with the Sermon On The Mount let alone
the remainder of the New Testament; which of course meant that my
afterlife expectations weren't looking good.

Matt 7:24-27 . .Everyone who hears these words of mine, and acts upon
them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock.
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst
against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the
rock.

. . . And everyone who hears these words of mine, and does not act upon
them, will be like a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand. And the
rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against
that house; and it fell, and great was its fall.

So I gave up on piety and resigned myself to the worst of all nightmares.

Then one day, a man at my work a man asked me if I was prepared for
Christ's return.

Well; I must've been either asleep or absent the day that the nuns in
catechism talked about Jesus coming back because that man's question was
the very first time in my whole life that I can remember somebody telling
me. I was 24 and hadn't a clue what he was talking about.

My initial reaction was alarm because I instinctively knew that were I called
on the carpet for a face-to-face with Christ, it would not go well for me
because I had a lot to answer for. Well; I don't like being made to feel afraid
so I became indignant and demanded to know why Jesus wanted to come
back. That's when I found out for the very first time that it was in the plan
for Christ to take over the world.

Then the man asked me if I was going to Heaven. Well; of course I had no
clue because Catholics honestly don't know what to expect when they pass
away. I was crossing my fingers while in the back of my mind dreading the
worst.

Then the man said; "Don't you know that Jesus died for your sins?"

Well; I had been taught in catechism that Jesus died for the sins of the
world; that much I knew; but honestly believed all along that he had been a
victim of unfortunate circumstances. It was a shock to discover that Jesus'
trip to the cross was deliberate, and that his Father was thinking of me when
His son passed away, viz: my sins were among the sins of the world that
Jesus took to the cross with him.

At that very instant-- scarcely a nanosecond --something took over in my
mind as I fully realized, to my great relief, that Heaven was no longer out of
reach, rather, well within my grasp!

Long story short; I eventually went with that man to his church and, along
with him and a couple of elders, knelt at the rail down front and prayed a
really simple, naive prayer that went something like this:

"God, I know I'm a sinner. I would like to take advantage of your son's
death"

My prayer wasn't much to brag about; but was no doubt the smartest
sixteen words I'd ever spoken up to that time because seeing as how Jesus
gave his life for the whole world, then God couldn't very well refuse my
request; now could He.

Rom 5:6-8 . . Christ died for the impious. Very rarely will anyone die for a
righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.
But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still
sinners, Christ died for us.

The event I described took place in 1968. As of today's date, Jan 05, 2023,
I'm a few days away from 79; and an on-going student of the Bible via
sermons, seminars, lectures, Sunday school classes, radio Bible programs,
and various authors of a number of Bible commentaries and special topics.
Fifty-five years of Bible instruction under my belt hasn't made me a
seminary-quality expert but at least competent enough to be useful to
inquiring souls now and then.

Heb 6:4-6 . . For it is impossible for those who have once been
enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy
Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of
the coming age, if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because
to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God afresh and subjecting him to
public disgrace.

We know that with God nothing is impossible. So, I think we have to
acquiesce that the impossibility spoken of here is so because God has made
it His mission in life, so to speak, to assure that folks blessed with the level
of advantages spoken of here are never to be given an opportunity to
reconsider-- ever.

Well, there's a nice encouraging thought.
I think most of us fall away at various times in our lives; and then we come back; and fall away again. I don't believe in "you get saved once, and then it's smooth sailing the rest of the way". In a sense, you have to be (to use an overused phrase) "born again" every morning. You have to renew your relationship with God every day.
But then why should anyone listen to me, or should I speak, since I know nothing?

I seriously doubt the folks spoken of in Heb 6:4-6 fit the "born again" mold
because that's a regenerative act of God that cannot be reversed.

John 5:24 . . I tell you the truth; whoever hears my word and believes Him
who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed
over from death to life.

It's far more those who "fall away" are lost folks for whom God has gone the
extra mile, i.e. to every sensible length possible in His effort to persuade
them to buy into Jesus' gospel. It's a fact of life that some folks are
spiritually incorrigible, i.e. they've passed the point of no return in their resolve.

Matt 13:10 . . And the disciples came and said to him: Why do you speak
to them in parables?

Matt 13:11 . . It is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of
heaven, but to them it is not given.

Jesus answered their inquiry by referring to an incident in the 6th chapter of
Isaiah's prophecy wherein God had lost interest in numbers of His people
because they had lost interest in Him.

The Jews' spiritual condition was little different in Jesus' day, i.e. many were
called but few chosen, and that's because the many were indifferent; which
is not the appropriate response.

1Sam 3:19 . .The Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of
His words fall to the ground.

I'd imagine the hardest part about Heaven isn't getting there, but staying
there.

Some years ago it occurred to me that it's very easy for me to live in this
world, but Heaven would require a level of piety and self control that I was
pretty sure I couldn't keep up forever. Sooner or later I'd mess up and get
thrown out. But if it were just as easy for me to live in Heaven as it is for me
to live in this world, then for sure I'd never get thrown out of Heaven.

In other words: if only thinking, feeling, and acting like God came just as
natural to me as thinking, feeling, and acting like a human; then that would
be the cat's meow.

1Cor 13:12 . . Now we see things imperfectly as in a poor mirror, but then
we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and
incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God knows
me now.

Back then, mirrors were made from a variety of reflective surfaces, e.g.
silver, bronze, gold, and rock crystal. Their surface finish wasn't nearly as
good as today's; they could can see themselves alright, but not sharply.

In psychoanalytic theory; ego is one of the three divisions of the psyche that
serve as the organized conscious mediator between the person and reality;
especially by functioning both in the perception of, and the adaptation to,
reality. All that really means is that the mind sees ourselves, and sees our
world, through tinted glasses-- making all of us vulnerable to subconscious
manipulations of truth and reality.

The Johari Window-- titled after the first names of its inventors, Joseph Luft
and Harry Ingham --is a four-paned glass window that divides personal
awareness into four areas represented by four quadrants: Open, Hidden,
Blind, and Unknown.

1. The open quadrant represents things that both of us know about myself.

2. The blind quadrant represents things that you know about me, but that I
am unaware.

3. The hidden quadrant represents things that I know about myself that you
don't know.

4. The unknown quadrant is opaque, and represents things that neither one
of us knows about myself.

That fourth pane is as transparent to God as freshly scrubbed aquarium
glass. He sees everything going beyond it in the world of fishes dwelling
there; and that is scary because there's a day coming when God will judge
not only people's obvious faults, but their hidden faults too. (Luke 8:17, Rom
2:16, 1Cor 4:5) That will be the day when folks find out who they really
were all along and didn't think about it because their sub conscience kept it
buried.

FAQ: What is meant by soul?

REPLY: Soul began appearing in the Bible in the book of Genesis by the
Hebrew word nephesh (neh'-fesh) which isn't unique to human life. Its first
appearance is at Gen 1:20-21 in reference to aqua creatures and winged
creatures; again at Gen 1:24 as terra creatures; viz: cattle, creepy crawlies,
and wild beasts; and again in Gen 2:7 as the human creature; and yet again
at Gen 9:10 to classify every living thing aboard Noah's ark.

* God is said to have a soul. (Lev 26:11, Lev 26:30, Judg 10:16, Isa 42:1,
Jer 32:41, and Zech 11:8)

Soul is somewhat ambiguous but basically refers to consciousness, self
awareness, and individuality. It's sometimes a reference to one's heart, e.g.
Gen 34:3, and to the core of one's being, e.g. Gen 27:4.

All in all, soul is just another way of referring to that part of sentient life that
we call "self" which can be roughly defined as the who that you are.

Jesus' followers can expect to retain their souls when they pass on, but
things are not looking good for the lost. According to Matt 10:28, people's
souls survive normal death, but do not survive Hell fire. That fact gives me
pause to question whether people condemned to the lake of fire-- depicted
by Rev 20:11-15 --will be aware of their circumstances in an environment
that destroys both soul and body.

These Boots Are Made For Walkin'

Performed by Nancy Sinatra, 1966

Lee Hazelwood was the singer originally intended to record the song but was
persuaded not to because it's harsh, and abusive to women. They suspected
it would do poorly on the charts if a man sang it and so recruited Nancy. It
was a hit and did very well. I was 22 at the time and working in a napalm
bomb factory making munitions for the Viet Nam thingy.

This double standard is rampant in American literature and entertainment
where abuse of men by women is considered by many to be normal,
whereas abuse of women by men is an outrage

Well; this double standard is doomed to eradication because God doesn't
judge on a curve nor is He influenced by one's age, rank, or gender
preference.

Deut 10:17 . . Jehovah shows no partiality

Acts 10:34 . .Then Peter began to speak: I now realize how true it is that
God is impartial.

Rom 2:5-11 . . For there is coming a day of judgment when God, the just
judge of all the world, will judge all people according to what they have
done. He will give eternal life to those who persist in doing what is good,
seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers.

. . . But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for
themselves, who refuse to obey the truth; and practice evil deeds. There will
be anguish and calamity for everyone who practices evil-- for the Jew first
and also for the Gentile. But there will be glory and honor and peace from
God for all practice good --for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism.

Deut 34:5-6 . . Moses the servant of The Lord died there in the land of
Moab, according to the word of The Lord. And He buried him in the valley in
the land of Moab, opposite Beth-peor; but no man knows his burial place to
this day.

A very curious scene unfolded during Moses' burial.

Jude 1:9 . . Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the Devil and
argued about the body of Moses, did not dare to accuse him of blaspheme,
but said: "The Lord rebuke you."

* Though the passage above shows God responsible for Moses' burial, the
actual labor was apparently assigned.

Anyway; if the Devil would interfere with the burial of a holy man like Moses,
then I think we can safely assume he (or one of his minions) probably
interferes with the burials of ordinary folk too; and I should think the
smartest way for him to interfere is to ensure the minister comes out with
nothing useful in his eulogy; but instead with the usual mushy rhetoric by
which nobody hearing it can be saved. (Just goes to show that the Devil is
not above walking over the bones of the dead to get what he wants.)

I think it's probably safe to posit that more liars are now, and more liars will

I was raised a Roman Catholic, which is a complicated religion. Once
someone is fully committed by completing First Holy Communion and
Confirmation and undergone Christian baptism --God will be holding them
accountable to comply with everything Rome teaches and stands for: the
Commandments, the Canon Law, the dogma, the rituals, the Traditions, the
Councils, the Bulls, the Encyclicals, the rites, the holy days of obligation, and
the entire Catechism; plus everything that Jesus and the apostles taught in
the New Testament, i.e. all four gospels and all twenty-one epistles, plus
Acts and Revelation.

That's a lot to remember, let alone put into practice.

And then there's the matter of mortal sin. When Catholics leave this life with
just one mortal sin on the books awaiting absolution, just one, they go
straight to Hell. It's a direct flight; no stopover in a Purgatory. Even if a
Catholic managed to be a top performer in faith and practice for fifty years,
none of that will be taken into consideration. They will leave this life as if
they'd been a pagan the whole time. Mortal sins are that lethal.

In addition; the Almighty isn't a political appointee like members of the US
Supreme Court, viz: He isn't biased towards the left or to the right, i.e. the
justice of God is fair across the board regardless of age, race, gender and/or
religious preference, so that affiliation with The Church grants no one a
certain amount of special consideration. (Rom 2:6-11, and 1Pet 1:17)

And the irony of it all; the supreme irony, is that Catholicism's hierarchy-- its
priests, nuns, Popes, and Cardinals --are in just as much danger of failing to
make the cut as rank and file pew warmers; in point of fact: according to
Luke 12:47-48, they may be in greater danger.

* My eldest brother entered the Catholic priesthood and was a Friar when he
passed away back in 2015. I often wonder about his present circumstances
because there are no guarantees in that religion. My concern isn't helped by
the fact that he was an alcoholic and in later years became doubtful a Hell
even exists.

Gen 2:15-17 is a favorite among critics because Adam didn't drop dead
within 24 hours of tasting the forbidden fruit. In point of fact, he continued
to live outside the garden of Eden for another 800 years after the birth of his
son Seth. (Gen 5:4)

Some say Adam died a so-called "spiritual" death, and that's true, but not
entirely true, viz: the explanation isn't misinformation, rather, it's missing
information.

Human life was created in the image and likeness of God. In other words:
human life came out of the box with immortality, i.e. with perpetual youth.
Adam lost immortality when he tasted the forbidden fruit, i.e. his body lost
its perpetual youth and began to age.

Adam's body became infected with mortality, which is a lingering death
rather than sudden death, i.e. mortality is slow, but very relentless: like
Arnold Swarzenegger's movie character "The Terminator" mortality feels
neither pain nor pity, nor remorse nor fear; it cannot be reasoned with nor
can it be bargained with, and it absolutely will not stop-- ever! --until our
useless corpse is ready for burial.

Eccl 7:2 . . It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house
of mirth, for death is the destiny of every man: the living should take this
seriously. (cf. Luke 12:16-21)

NOTE: Superhuman bodies like Arnold Swarzenegger's look indestructible

NOTE: Superhuman bodies like Arnold Swarzenegger's look indestructible
when young, but their youth isn't permanent. Today Arnold is pushing 76
and taking on the appearance of withering vegetables.

Maybe they can get parole or early release for good behavior.

Paroles and early releases leave one's criminal history on the books. That's
not a good thing because those histories will be examined at the great white
throne event depicted by Rev 20:11-15. It's crucial that people get their
histories wiped prior to that day so that when the books are opened, it will
look as though they've never been anything but innocent their entire lives.
That way God will have nothing with which to accuse them and He'll have to
grant them an acquittal.

1Cor 4:4 . . My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent.

During former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's assassination back in 2011,
he was overheard to complain: Why are you doing this? I've done nothing
wrong.

Former US President Richard Nixon once stated-- in so many words --that
when a President breaks the law, it's not a crime.

Those two men serve to demonstrate just how unreliable the human
conscience can be at times.

Man was created with as near a perfect conscience as a creature can be
given.

Gen 1:27 . . God created Man in His own image, in the image of God
created He him.

But then came the forbidden fruit incident by which Man's near-divine
conscience underwent something that caused it to become humanistic.

Gen 3:22 . . The Lord God said: The man has now become like one of us,
knowing good and evil.

Man was able to discern between good and evil before his fall, but that was
by means of a conscience influenced by its maker. The forbidden fruit
incident altered Man's conscience to become his own influence, i.e. Man
became defensive, and he rationalizes a lot too. (Rom 2:14-15)

I think the writer of 1Cor 4:4 was well aware of just how tricky Man's
conscience can be so he was reluctant to insist upon his innocence-- a little
sophistry here and a little there, and even monsters like Communist China's
Xi Jinping and North Korea's Kim Jong-Un can be persuaded in their own
minds to believe themselves okay guys.

Jer 17:9-10 . .The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately
sick; who can understand it? . . . I, The Lord, search the heart, I test the
mind, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the
results of his deeds.

The upside is: Christ's crucifixion not only serves to save people from their
sins, but according to Heb 9:8-14 his death saves them from their
conscience too.

One of my favorite lines from the movie "Titanic" is when Mr. Ismay protests
that the ship can't sink; and Mr. Andrews responds: She's made of iron, sir!
I assure you, she can... and she will. It is a mathematical certainty.

There are folks at large all across the internet, and around the globe,
sincerely believing that Hell isn't a place of conscious suffering. They, like
Mr. Ismay, will be utterly stunned and bewildered to the limits of human
endurance to discover it's exactly that.
