I have been assured of many things, and they have turned out differently than expected.
I have assurance I know Jesus. I have assurance that the Holy Spirit dwells with me, but
as cc declares time and again, I could be mistaken, lost and empty, blind and deceived,
hypocritical and evil.

Often the very people I am sharing with, who say they follow the same Lord, believe
the same words yet suddenly turn around and say we are different. Now that is confusing,
it suggests to me something else is at work here and it is easier to believe you are assured
and comforted, but maybe this is not true.

So I come back to Jesus and His words. Even the apostles talk about following the commands
of Christ, and loving ones brothers and sisters in Christ, confessing Jesus is Lord, rose from the
dead as affirmation that the Holy Spirit dwells within us. So I say Amen to this.

But in no way is this simple.

I will agree there may be many, to many, who have a false assurance because of what or who they place that assurance in.
That is why it is so important to understand God's one and only plan for salvation.

Doubt - For me there are different types of doubt.

Doubt that is sin, is to have an angel from the presence of the Lord, stand before you with
a message from the Most High and you do not believe it.

Healthy doubt is a strong conviction that asks to do something risky or dangerous, you need
to know the source. Too many times conviction has come upon people, and it is confirmed
many times before it is taken seriously, because it is easy to get these things wrong.

It is not unreasonable to wonder at such things, because the implications can be life changing.
Paul going to Jerusalem was warned about the consequences, it was made plain to him what
would happen and the church wept over this. The Lord wants us to partake in the discussion
and wrestle with our hearts to come to a joint conclusion. We are friends, and He is a great
King, who calls us to freely follow, and count the cost.

I think we confuse maybe doubt with discussion on direction, and that the Lord desires our
honesty and willingness to learn. If we cannot be honest, we never learn what we are missing
because we cannot be honest enough to accept where we are, so cover up our real needs.

This for me is why there has never been a rush. To turn the word of the Lord into the word
of our hearts, is time consuming. So many want an instant solution to a lifetime of something
else, or a lifetime in a church frustrated with failure to become immediate freedom with baggage
of hurt and burnt relationships. It has taken me a long time to see small steps matter, and
the distance to travel is vast.

Is it the hope of salvation or is it the doubt of salvation?

Depending on which one YOU think it is will probably depend on how well that helmet actually works.

1 Peter 1:3-5
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

1Th_5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Why do you think the Holy Inspired by God Scriptures instructs us to put on the helmet "The HOPE of Salvation"

Why HOPE?

Greek word - elpis -
  1. expectation of evil, fear
  2. expectation of good, hope
    1. in the Christian sense
    2. joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation
  3. on hope, in hope, having hope
  4. the author of hope, or he who is its foundation
  5. the thing hoped for

When we think of "hope" today . . . it's more like wishful thinking . . . I hope I get a job. I hope I can make next month's bills. It seems that in this sense it is more of a KNOWING - a joyful, confident expectation . . . Knowing that we who believe ARE saved. That confident expectation of being face to face with our Lord, Jesus Christ, at his coming . . . looking forward to that day

Amen! This hope is not some wishy washy cross your fingers kind of hope. Unlike the english word "hope," the N.T. word contains no uncertainty; it speaks of something that is certain. - Strong's #1680 elpís (from elpō, "to anticipate, welcome") – properly, expectation of what is sure (certain); hope.

If we have saving faith in Christ then we have this hope. Faith is the substance of things HOPED for.. (Hebrews 11:1). So that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the HOPE of eternal life (Titus 3:7). :)

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.
1 Peter 1:3-4

Hope is something that is believed but maybe different. The tension in life is everything
is by Gods will and until it occurs it is always a hope.

What is interesting is making it certain, is a lie, because it is only desired to be expressed
as certain, in case it is taken away, by describing it wrongly. So rather than weakness being
shown by those who express hope in the sense it relies on Christ and not us, it is actually
an affirmation of faith in Christ. Our hope and belief will be honoured by the King, but until
that day, it is still a hope and belief.

So I am disappointed at the lack of recognition of faith and hope, and the desire to condemn
those who understand the expression Peter is using, rather than creating a new faith of
mystical realities, which define the spiritual world as solid when this is truly illusory.
If those who want certainty and mock humbleness, yet preach heresy, how far are they from
the real spiritual realities of Christs Kingdom while declaring it is so obvious. Imagine the
certainty they claim denied by Christ when they meet Him, what a waste, what empty words,
what blindness to the clear words of scripture.

A small observation.

Hope in our culture is used to define things that could go one way or another, but people desire
the best outcome. In faith it has more certainty, and is core to our walking in Christ.

So equally people have looked at the greek word for repentance, as in changing ones mind, and
then extended this into new testament thought to mean this is what Jesus and the apostles meant
when the examples in Israel, the prophets, and John the Baptist is very different.

This lack of care is worrying, and humbleness before our King. These are not minor issues,
but core to our outlook of spiritual reality, our communion and our fellowship. Our spirit is one
of learning and following, yet what I am hearing is defining and then dismissing with taking in
the true insights being expressed. No wonder people go astray so easily if this is how they
approach the word.

But He that is enduring to the end to be Saved, is indeed wearing that helmet "The HOPE of Salvation"

Please read above as to what biblical hope is.
Just because someone gives their opinion what Biblical Hope means, does not make it FACT.

Hope, even according to the Bible means something that you do NOT have, it is something you HOPE for. Has this generation even changed the meaning of the word HOPE as to fit into their own doctrines?

In this world we are sure to have trouble, but we are to take heart because Jesus Christ has overcome the world... sin and death also, on our behalf, out of His great and everlasting, undying love for us. Our hope is in the renewed world to come, following the resurrection and judgement of all, where sin, death, and sorrow shall be no more.
This is True, however the Scriptures we are discussing here is the helmet "The Hope of Salvation" it is not discussing the "The Hope of a world to come" two different things.

The subtle teaching behind the theology is saying people are eternally and irrevocably saved
so they are wearing salvation.

If you are told you can never rebel and fall away, that you are accepted no matter your behaviour,
then there is no hope needed, you have arrived.

Paul is expressing a real fact. We have a relationship in our heads, a model of what we are and where
we are going which is not fixed, but based on assumptions and experience.

When we see Christ face to face, our assumptions will be converted into reality or not. So in humbleness
Paul is acknowledging it is a hope, resting on Gods will. And that is truly humbling, and gives me pause
each day, and also great thanks, that it is not founded on me but Him alone. I need to know I can get
carried away, go too far, say too much, miss something crucial, that I am just a servant, unworthy of
fellowship with the King, yet He calls me friends, a child of the His Kingdom. Amen
This is True. Well said.

The other aspect to the "helmet of the hope of salvation" is that it is the armor of God as Paul discusses in Ephesians 6:10-11.

It's interesting to see Paul's understanding of the armor of God progress with greater revelation from 1 Thess. which is his first epistle to the book of Ephesians where he has a greater revelation of the full armor of God.

Ephesians 6:10-11 (NASB)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.

[SUP]11 [/SUP] Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

All of the armor of God is for "standing" - standing in the truth of Christ in us and all that He has already done for us. We are one spirit with Christ now. 1 Cor. 6:17. Having done all to stand - stand therefore.

The final piece of the armor is "praying in the Spirit". This is the lance of the armor that is used by God in this world. Eph. 6:18
Just because a person claims to have the full Armour of God on, does not make it True. Also Just because a person puts on a piece of armour does not mean it CAN'T EVER be taken off. Wearing the armour, is a choice a person makes. It is not automatically given, nor once it is put on, it can Never be taken off.

We are instructed to wear the full Armour of God, it is NOT automatically worn.

Also still waiting to hear from you, as to why you think the Holy Apostle said "The HOPE of Salvation" and not "The Helmet of Salvation" as this generation believes they are wearing?

you know, God places prophets within a body of believers for a reason...and there should be more than one...if it actually is God who has called a person...coming on a forum with the intent of asking people to believe God has given you a message for the world is beyond the scope of this or any other forum...for reasons discerned by those who actually know what a prophet in this day and age is

but I digress

what also irritates me, is the supposed familiarity homemade prophets have with trying to make it seem they have a message...all encompassing...from God to everyone

the reason this can never be true, is stated in scripture and I refer briefly to it above

oh I do believe a person can receive such a message from God...but this ain't it

don't take a verse and try to contradict what is stated in the original intro of spiritual armor from the book of Ephesians as follows:

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

This thread is not talking about the Full Armor of God, and what Ephesians says. This particular thread is talking about a specific verse referring to the helmet of "The hope of Salvation" and asking to WHY the Apostle specifically used the word HOPE.

we are told to PUT ON the full armor, including the helmet of salvation

that helmet, protects your MIND...from all the attacks of the devil who tries constantly to make you DOUBT your salvation

to interject the word hope in some way meaning it is not sure, is a gross misapplication to the intent of context in the book of Ephesians
You act as if i ADDED the word HOPE to the helmet. Tell me is this verse a gross misapplication to you as well?

1Th_5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

This thread was a topic about this particular verse. Please make a comment on this particular verse, which indeed calls the the helmet "The HOPE of Salvation". Now if you would like to discuss the other verses which speak of the helmet in another place, then by all means do so, start a thread concerning the helmet. But this thread is concerning that specific verse in Scriptures as to WHY the Apostle said "HOPE" as if it was NOT a guaranteed thing like this generation believes. Saying it is a gross misapplication by adding the word HOPE, which i did no such thing at all concerning the topic of this thread, is in error. Please try to stay on topic.

put your helmet on folks...you and I know we need it now, today and always

and today is always today
i will comment (off topic a bit) concerning the "Helmet of Salvation"

There is a Helmet of Salvation, but the reason why the Apostle called this same helmet "The HOPE of Salvation" is for this reason. Just because you wear this helmet, does not mean it can never be taken off of your head. This is the whole point that i started this thread concerning the verse which speaks of the helmet of "Hope of Salvation". If this helmet is on, Salvation is sure. If you are carrying this helmet, or do not have it on your head, then your Salvation is not sure, because you are not wearing the helmet.

As i said before this generation believes they are wearing the "Helmet of Salvation" as if it can never be taken off or removed. Where does it teach that anywhere in Scriptures? i am now wearing this helmet, my Salvation is sure, and it is my HOPE that i endure, continue to wear this helmet and not take it off, then on Judgement Day my name will be found in the Book of Life, and then, and ONLY then will i be SAVED. It in ONLY on Judgment Day that will determine who is actually SAVED and who is not Saved, AND who thought they were Saved. Who can tell me what tomorrow holds for me? are you saying that i can't possibly remove the helmet that i am wearing right now? What? is it glued to my head? is it fastened with bolts to my neck? God forbid. (by the way, "God forbid" means NO, such as the verse that plainly teaches "Shall we continue in sin? God forbid." Means "NO")

Just because i wear the helmet today, does not mean i will be wearing it tomorrow, or a year from now. Those who think once they put it on, it can never be taken off, is the reason i bring up this verse which specifically calls this helmet "The HOPE of Salvation" which is an attempt to make the blind see the TRUTH of Scriptures. If the Apostle calls the "Helmet of Salvation" by another name "The HOPE of Salvation". you can't ignore one or the other. BOTH names for the helmet is correct and Scriptural. But to negate one of the names of the helmet, is to not accept the TRUTH of God presented to us via the Holy Inspired Scriptures of God. Wearing the helmet today call it "The Helmet of Salvation", Thinking about wearing the helmet tomorrow and beyond, call it "The HOPE of Salvation"

In your philosophy it is.

Biblically, there are no verses that contradict the Power of God.

1 Peter 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

I answered you in post #4 but I'll say it again.

I realize that this goes against a works-based mindset but then again the grace of Christ will always be a stumbling block to us that think we become righteous by what we do. This is called "works-righteousness".

The true Christian righteousness is based on believing what Christ has already done. It is called "faith-righteousness".

Here is the quote from post #4.

True biblical hope is the "confident expectation of good". - nothing to do with "maybe and maybe not".

Use that definition of hope and then we can look at hope in scriptures in context.

Why hope?....because faith is the substance of thing "hoped for". -
the confident expectation of the goodness of God being manifested in us because of what Christ has done in His finished work.

We can trust Him when He says that He will perfect that which concerns us. He will never leave nor forsake us. Heb. 13:5 He said that the Holy Spirit will be with us forever. John 14:16

Jesus is not a liar and He said no one can pluck us from His hand nor the Father's hand.

This is the Christian
hope -
the confident expectation of the goodness and grace of God in our lives because of Christ Himself.

Our hope
is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness.

Lauren, you always buck against the word.. if you're doing what you should be then why are you so irritated? All throughout the epistles it says ... Make your election sure, walk in a manner worthy of, faith without works is dead....... Why you fight that we have a role is beyond me... Stop hindering the truth..
