There are two camps on this.
- God died for every sin ever
- God died for the sins of those in the Book of Life
I have been going back and forth on this question over the past week. I questioned why God would bother suffering for hitler’s sins. But at the same time, we are talking about God here, He could handle it.
Romans 5
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Ephesians 1:4
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love
Jesus had a connection to us before we were born. We were in Him. That gives Jesus a way to access all sins.
I feel like removing the sins of the unbelievers kind of takes away from the title of "the savior of the world".
“And He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
1 John 2:2 KJV
Why wouldn't they specify when saying this:?:
"the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people."
Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.”
Acts 17:30-31
I think Jesus gets to judge the world because everyone was involved in what He did.
I also think the Cross is dual purposed. Sins of the world and a door to Life/Truth. We need both fixed to be saved.
Extra bonus: For as the [human] body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one Body [the Body of Christ] ,
whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the Body [of Christ] is not one member, but many. (1 Cor 12:12-14)
