In a way that honors God but does not bring unnecessary attention to us. In suitable attire for the occasion (formal is reasonable for concerts, etc). Neat and tidy is best... but farmers etc. may be excused. You don't milk cows in a suit, and sometimes a body runs out of time.

If we don't dress our best what does that say about our heart in reverence to God?

I wear jeans and a button up shirt usually. I visited a church for a while last year that allowed people to be comfortable. Some people came dressed to impress, and others just in comfortable clothes, and even others in PJ's at times and you could sit anywhere, whether it be in the floor, in a chair, in a pew, it didn't matter. There were those who looked well off and others who looked like they slept on the street the night before.

The atmosphere was really comfortable and the music was great. I'm not sure so much about the messages, but they didn't seem to contradict scripture. The overall atmosphere was very comfortable and inviting to anyone from any walk, and there was a huge diversity of people there. I thought it was great.

I dress however I want. I don't want to look like a slob but I really could care less if someone else is dressed like one. That whole ''respect'' argument is something I don't care about either considering we disrespect God daily. I doubt the most shameful part of our un-Christianly duty is not wearing pantyhose or a tie on Sunday. If you are the type of girl who wears booty-shorts to church well BRA-VA, I am super happy you even made it to church in the first place. And you know what? I'll be there shaking your hand good morning.

well you start out with underwear . Then you want to place on socks, one foot at a time.

then, put on pants, one leg at a time. But there are other methods where you can put both legs in at once, leave that until you gain some experience with the one leg method . Now slowly take hold of the zipper ( Use caution when doing this, as rushing may result in injury )

Then you put on a shirt, now this can be tricky but, some people like to fold the shirt to the collar . This allows for easy access to the opening you have to place your head through. once that is achieved , you can move your arms and hands under the shirt to feel for the arm holes. and slide the arms through . Beginners should do this one arm at a time. Always do this is a slow manner .

The last key item is the shoes, it is only possible to place shoes on , one at a time, any attempt to place two shoes on at the same time will result in failure . The shoe now must be tied. If you do not know how this is done, watch a video on the internet to assist you with that. Worse case, wear shoes that have Velcro .

Again , Any attempt to rush these steps may result in bodily harm . Good luck

I don't care what one wears to church. The external is something that might impress some, some not God. God cares about the internal things like attitude of heart, thoughts etc.

I would prefer if people take a bath now and then to cut down on the stink factor, but even that should not keep a person from church.

1 Peter 3:3Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.

1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outwardappearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Matthew 23:27
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.

I believe in a true church you could come as you are, after all does God look at what you wear or your heart? of course wearing gothic or satanic stuff may be taking it to far but I would imagine what matters is whats on the inside.

You put on socks before trousers? Interesting.

Well would anyone stand in front of Christ half naked? Would you wear short and low cut tops in front of your Lord? We come before him in His presence when we go to church. So if you would not wear anything indecent if the Lord were in front of you right now in person, then you shouldn't wear it in church either. Everyone has their own opinions, and this is what this site is for.

Let's also remember that the church is the house of God. Why is that restaurants, night clubs, operas, casinos, etc have dress codes? We can argue and say I can wear anything I want to the opera or to a particular restaurant, etc. But chances are, some places won't even let you in the door if you don't have the right dress code. So too then, there is a dress code for church. If we show respect for these other places that ask for dress codes and abide by their wants, then we too should hold enough respect for the house of God. The Bible clearly states how a woman or man should dress, in modesty, not the outward adorning, etc. And it does clearly state that a woman should have her head covered when praying or prophesying. I went to Italy years ago, and I was on a tour of the Cathedrals in Italy. The man at the entrance of the Cathedral was handing out paper skirts and tops to women. He said women could not enter this particular cathedral if they were wearing shorts, pants, or sleeveless tops. Many of the catholics put a shawl or veil on their head before walking in as well. I am not catholic, but I am just saying that they are upholding the dress code in many places over there.

Legalism is a load of bollocks. What happened to come as you are and then become a new creation in Christ? Modesty is a good idea but for those who are new to the church, just be appreciative that they want to know more about Jesus.

I usually wear a skirt, casual dress, flats, or a nice pair of jeans and a dressier top...I never wear shorts..I do not think they are appropriate for church, how ever our pastor had them on today, it was hard to take the message seriously...just my opinion there.
I have seen some younger girls wearing shorts that are wayyyyy to short for any public place..let alone church. My husband tried to wear board shorts last week....nooooo way!! He was not happy when I said no,,,but he got over it..lol
I actually enjoy putting my outfit together on Saturday nights...I look forward to going on Sunday so much that I get a kick out of choosing what to wear.

Matthew 3:4John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.

Genesis 2:25
Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

There's a huge difference between wearing normal shorts and the skimpy kind. The former is fine for really warm weather.

I think she was meaning those who dress provocatively. Bit of a difference there.

Matthew 21:31“Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.

Joshua 2:1
Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. “Go, look over the land,” he said, “especially Jericho.” So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.

Yeah I get those verses. I'm just saying when the person is dressing to look sexy for the opposite sex they are showing unrepentant or non-Christian signs. If they are Christians then this could be a stumbling block for non-Christians and other Christians who are not founded in their faith completely yet. What did Jesus always tell people once he healed them, or saved them or forgave them, prostitute or not? "Go and sin no more". I'm not condemning anyone, just stating an opinion. More than happy to see anyone at church regardless of how they dress.
