There is a verse that says people are saved by the grace of God and not of works so no man may boast,

Can anyone help out and quote it for me?

Getting kids ready for church.

We are not saved by anything we do on our own. We must have God's grace change our heart and draw us to him.

The new life is a gift, so that no man can boast of having earned it by his work for it, but after we receive the new life we must walk in it by faith, which is work.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works [of law], so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works [of faith], which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10

Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works [of law]? No, because of the law that requires [works of] faith. Romans 3:27

This is the work of God: that you believe into [have faith in] the one [the father] set apart. John 6:29

Salvation is assured if we persist in the faith. To say otherwise is to exalt the tenets of Calvinism over the witness of scripture.
Christians are those who persist in the faith.

Hebrews 10:38
“But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.”

Hebrews 10:39
"But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved."

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 2 Timothy 1:9

That's nonsensical logic. If someone gives you something that is eternal and you throw it away, what you were given is still eternal, but you don't have it anymore.
No, what you are saying is nonsensical illogic. If it can be "thrown away" then it wasn't eternal life, but only temporal life, and you make God out to be a liar.

I agree completely. All I'm saying is that trust in GOD requires our active participation, which is work. There is nothing else to do but love our fellow man.
This is the work of God: that you believe into the one [the father] set apart. John 6:29
It "requires" faith in Jesus Christ, which is trusting in Christ, and faith is not a work. It is but the empty hand that freely receives from God what God freely gives.

Jesus was responding to a group of people who asked Jesus what they could do to do the works of GOD, not what GOD could do for them.
Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.

Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?

Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” John 6:27-29

It is men who believe, not GOD, so it is man's work.
Belief is not a work.

Faith is not a work.
What most miss is the following...

In the grace you are, having been saved out of faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast....

that not of yourselves is directed at the word FAITH...it is the FAITH of Christ that is the gift and it is the faith of Christ that actually saves us.........

I have to disagree. It is directed at salvation, salvation is the free gift of God. And it is the object of our faith, Jesus Christ, who saves us.

Christ called faith work.

This is the work of God: that you believe into the one [the father] set apart. John 6:29
You are making the same mistake the crowd He was correcting were making by focusing on the physical. Instead of looking to the giver and the gift, they looked to their own role. The point being that there are no works that God “requires”, but only to believe in the One He sent by faith.

Disagree all you want...grammatically speaking that not of yourselves is directed at the word faith...Galatians 2:16-21, 3:22

I understand that is the calvinist position, I disagree with it, and will continue to disagree with it.

But again, Christ said faith is THE work that GOD requires. That's what the bible says, not me. You seem to be confusing works of faith with works of law.
