I think I understand what you are stating MessageOfTheCross

Our life is now hidden in Christ. (Col 3:3)

We are partakers of His divine nature, a precious gift (2Peter 1:4)

Sanctification is not a process of becoming holy (set apart)......only Jesus is holy.

Sanctification is a process of discovering and being His holiness already accomplished and given to us in union with Christ Jesus.

Why did Paul warn the Believer by stating:

I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain (Gal. 2:21).

Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace (Gal. 5:4).

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption (Eph. 4:30).

The moment that we have been saved through faith and justified, we are set apart and made holy in standing before God positionally in Christ. 1 Corinthians 6:11 - Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 1:2 - To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified (past tense) in Christ Jesus..

Yet in ongoing or progressive sanctification, the reality of that holiness becomes more and more evident in our actions, words, thoughts, attitudes, and motives. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 - For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain (present tense) from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor. So becoming washed, sanctified and justified in Christ is a one time event, yet abstaining from sexual immorality is not a one time event, but an ongoing process of abstaining.

Here is how I see it. The believer possess a positional, judicial standing of righteousness in Christ and, second, a remaining need for practical, progressive holiness.

Sanctification - Salvation - Final Redemption

First comes Spiritual regeneration begining the moment we truely accept Christ. Believers are sealed by/with God's Holy Spirit. It's this SEALING that enables us to accomplish the good works God has planned for us (Eph 2:10). Without Christ's Holy Spirit "IN US" we can accomplish nothing for God.

After salvation we continue our physical life long sanctification process. Through continuious renewing/regeneration. HOW?

By reading & meditating in God's Word, thru prayer & fellowship with Christ & other believers.

Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
(NOTE: Again, it's the indwelling Holy Spirit Christ's place's "IN US" that helps & guide's our conscious choices)

Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
(NOTE: Christ's indwelling Holy Spirit which he place's "IN US". Is his promise of eternal rescue/salvation)

Rom 6:
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
(NOTE: Often scripture instructs us to resist our old (Adamic) sin nature. Here in Rom 6:12-14, 2 Cor 10:5, Js 4:7, 1 Pet 5:8 to quote a few)

13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
(NOTE: Without Gods help via Christ's indwelling Holy Spirit we can't resist sins temptations)

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace
(NOTE: It's Christ's indwelling Holy Spirit that over rules the sin nature. Only with the Holy Spirits help can we overcome temptation & sins dominion)

Heb 9:14 "How much more shall the blood of Christ", who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
(NOTE: It's thru Christ's faithful redemptive sin atoning work & our Faith placed in it & in him. That we are saved/justified & his righeousness is imputed/transfered onto us. See Lev 4 & Rom 4:3-8)

Acts 24:16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
(NOTE: When we draw near to God he draws nears to us Ja 4:8. And Gods indwelling H/S guides our conscience choices)

Rom 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;
(See Acts 24:16 note above)

Titus1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
(See Acts 24:16 note above)

John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you
(NOTE: Its Gods spoken/written WORD = Jesus Christ that helps us keep a clean/pure conscience)

1 Cor 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
(NOTE: We are saved/justified by grace thru faith, sanctified & sealed by God's Holy Spirit & kept clean thru washing in God's Word)

Heb 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
(NOTE: It's our Faith placed in Christ's sin atoning payment that cleanses & free's our conscience from sin. And kept clean washing/reading/studying in/with God's Word)

Eph 5:25 (B) Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
(NOTE: Explained below washing here is translated from the Greek word """loutron""" not the Greek word "baptismos")

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
(NOTE: Here in this passage as well. Washing here is translated from the Greek word """loutron""" not the Greek word "baptismos")

So, our sins are cleansed/washed thru faith in the shed "blood of God's Lamb. We renew/clean/wash ourselves thru reading/consuming/feeding on God's Word. As the Holy Spirit guides our continuing work of sanctification unto the Lord. Until we meet him on the final day of redemption. And so shall we ever be with the Lord (1 Thes 4:7).

good post, but it seems that you 'left-out' our special gift of being to humble ourselves
through heart-felt' REPENTNCE', when we 'fail Him'; this is the total reason
that He is sitting on the Right Hand of God, as our (((INTERCESSOR)))'!!!
to intercede for us on a daily basis, when The Holy Spirit convicts us of our 'wrong doings'...

This is what He has told us and assured us of that He Lovingly and Willingly will do for us,
IF we come before Him in 'true Repentance'...else we will remain the same old person that we
always were, if we claim to be a Christian, a continual sinner who thinks of our selves as 'covered',
no matter what we do or don't do...

The Holy Spirit, He Works strictly within the parameters of the "Finished Work" i.e., "the Cross of Christ", i.e., "The Blood of Jesus" which demands that our Faith be exclusively in the Cross of Christ. The reason is simple, that's were the price was paid, and the victory was forever won (Romans 6:1-14; 1 Cor. 2:2; Gal. 5; Gal. 6:14; Eph. 2:13-18; Col. 2:14-15). The Holy Spirit is the sanctifier for the Christian; we cannot sanctify ourselves.

The sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit mortifies the deed of the flesh by changing my condition into my position which is perfect and Holy because God has declared us justified (not guilt and innocent).

As a Christian we were "set free" the moment we are saved - "made free" speaks of a process. "Set Free," i.e., instantaneous - "Made Free," i.e., you should know the truth and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32, John 14:6). "Made Free" = sanctification.

Two kinds of peace
1. Justifying Peace - This is Peace with God, a legal standing. Rom. 8:7; Eph. 2:14-15

2. Sanctifying Peace - This is the Peace of God in the heart. Rom. 8:6; 14:19; 15:13; Gal. 1:3

The first is the result of a legal standing. The second is the result of the Work of the Holy Spirit. The first is static, never fluctuates, the second changes almost from hour to hour. The first, every Christian has, the second, every Christian may have.

How does a Christian receive the help of the Holy Spirit after salvation?
"Seek first the kingdom of God,"
"Daily Pick up your cross and follow Me."
"The kingdom of God is Righteousness and Peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost."
"Count it all Joy, Pray without ceasing, in everything give Thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

IMO, YOU DON'T....God DOES!

Rom 12:2
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
KJV

but be ye transformed this is passive voice. You are told to ALLOW it to be done to you!

Phil 2:13
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

have to run off but wanted to post a response quickly, will discuss later if needed.

Our Wesleyan Heritage – The United Methodist Church

"
Sanctifying Grace

Salvation is not a static, one-time event in our lives. It is the ongoing experience of God’s gracious presence transforming us into whom God intends us to be. John Wesley described this dimension of God’s grace as sanctification, or holiness.[SUP]1
[/SUP]

Through God’s sanctifying grace, we grow and mature in our ability to live as Jesus lived. As we pray, study the Scriptures, fast, worship, and share in fellowship with other Christians, we deepen our knowledge of and love for God. As we respond with compassion to human need and work for justice in our communities, we strengthen our capacity to love neighbor. Our inner thoughts and motives, as well as our outer actions and behavior, are aligned with God’s will and testify to our union with God. [SUP]1
[/SUP]

We’re to press on, with God’s help, in the path of sanctification toward perfection. By perfection, Wesley did not mean that we would not make mistakes or have weaknesses. Rather, he understood it to be a continual process of being made perfect in our love of God and each other and of removing our desire to sin.[SUP]3?[/SUP]
A reminder to make a distinction between love your neighbors, and love your enemies.

One example of love your enemies reminds me of the Lord's stern warning not to tolerate the jezebel.

you feed and clothe your enemies and love them also....loving them does not mean you allow them to slaughter the sheep upon their altars... it means stopping them. God's love isn't touchy feelly like the world makes it out to be.. He speaks of TOUGH love via chastening. Agape love of God is undeserved and given to us while we were His enemies.

Most born-again Christians do not know how to live for God. They are a defeated Christian living in the "Law of the Sin and Death (Rom. 8:2)." They believe in laboring for reward and do not understand Faith and Grace. My question is, how does a Child of God live for God after salvation?

Most Christians know how to live for God; "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me" (John 14:21). Nothing complicated about that. Christians aren't living in the Law of Sin, Christ liberated us from that. Most Christians understand faith & grace, but they also know that the good works they labor for will be rewarded; "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad" (2 Corinthians 5:10). We are saved by grace through faith, but are rewarded by our works; “And behold, I am coming quickly, and my reward is with me, to give to everyone according to his work (Revelation 22:12)

The Holy Spirit within us desires to change our thinking and empower us for the work God has given us. But, we are still able to thwart and/or grieve the Holy Spirit. We need to learn to submit ourselves to the changes God is making and desires to make within us. When we resist the work of the Holy Spirit, we bring chastening on ourselves.

Hello MarcR, there is a difference to being chastised and failing. I also believe we can thwart the HS working in our lives, but my experience tells me not for very long. Coming out of my mission work I was beat down to less than nothing. I believed I did something wrong to bring about my failing health. I still don't have answers to why God did things in such a strange way. I do know that everything He taught me is still there, and nothing could take it away.

God has been doing a new thing in my life. I believe Romans 8:28 and I know God has prepared me for what is ahead. I have written two books, one is published and the second is being published. I don't believe I would have written these books if God hadn't weakened me. When I am weak, He is strong. I will praise Him until the day I die.

Well,
There are those who admittedly have taken the mark and forfeited any such Love.
What would you have me as a believer say?

Amen Brother. This is the only way it can be done (Zech. 4:6, Rom.8:2, Gal. 2:20-21). When the Believer place and maintain their Faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross, we receive Grace; the help of the Holy Spirit who does what ought to be done in our life. If the Believer lives any other way they enter the work of the flesh (5:19-21) and stops the flow of Grace.

The point i was making is that they forfeited the comforter!

A believer is not to associate with such, we do not drink of the cup of the Holy One(Christ and then turn to drink the cup of devils.

As believers, a Firm example is to be set for the Younger generations.
They are dependent on the Maturity and Strength of elders to give them confidence in what is right.

Never are we to dissuade the children still on the sincere milk that the Lord will tolerate evil.
