I will never, not ever, grasp the faith and works debate. He saves us, and then He continues to work in us that we may be vessels for Him. Yes, His salvation gets us there, 100%, and it is His salvation that makes our faith effectual.

I just don't understand why we argue this point sooooo MUCH. It just doesn't make sense to me. Perhaps, this is a great opportunity NOT to lean on my own limited understanding, lol.

Yes, I believe repenting and receiving Christ is enough. Once He starts working in us, whoa...yup a life changer. We are so beyond Blessed with HIM!!!

when you find a good place to eat, don't you tell others about it?

the Faith part is believing the place you eat at is so good you want to become a testimony and witness for it.

so you have Faith and then you perform works.

if God is so Amazing and Important to us, we should be shouting it from the rooftops.

that is Faith with Works!

that is what God wants after we believe in Him!

Show me your faith without works, James ( I agree that works are not credit for salvation, but add to our reward)
and there we have it in full bloom

no we do not agree and I think my posts were flying a little low perhaps and under your radar

The one time mere confession of "accepting Christ" from the non-Christian and the Christian is far from enough! It only puts you in the same category as Satan who believes! If you are a Christian what should your attitude be about doing the right thing? Are you saved? 1John 3:9 says “No one born of God commits sin; for God’s nature abides in him, and he cannot sin because he is born of God.” Many translations say "continue" in sin, a habit of sinning. Matthew 7:21 says: “Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Christianity is about doing God’s will. Rev 20:13: "... and they were judged every man according to their works."

What Jesus do you believe in? The one who gave himself to redeem us from all iniquity? The one who gave us a new nature, who enabled us to do what’s right? Shall you continue in sin that grace may abound? (Rom 6:1). What you do is directly related to what you believe.
You have the power to walk the way he walked.

Does obeying God's just commandments mean that it has to be a hard, white knuckled, teeth clenching event as a Christian? No! You can love Him and really want to do what is right, because you seek to please God with all of your heart, all of your mind and all of your soul. Many have felt the return love of God which cannot be replaced by anything on this Earth. Out of the abundance of love for God you will want to worship Him because he first loved you by His sacrifice. When you know Him even more you will see who He really is, His power, beauty, His gentleness, His tenderness, (and a long list of other superlatives) plus his continued forgiveness for the rare times you fall. Then you will want to worship Him even more!
the problem I have with the understanding that

"The one time mere confession of "accepting Christ" from the non-Christian and the Christian is far from enough!"

You fail to leave out the Cause Of one confession and accept Christ. The actions and change come through the sanctification process and discipleship. The Gospel message and the words of Jesu

That "whosoever calls on the name of the lord Shall be saved". Jesus did not say they might be saved.

We need to stop playing authenticator of salvation, and yes, we will know them by their fruits; however, there are today many factors of today's "Christian".

1. the family is attacked like never before
2. Biblical illiteracy is all-time high
3. We are seeing lawlessness in the land as never before.
4. the church(in America) is still on defense, not offense, because of fear.

What scripture says to accept Jesus?

What makes one saved is faith by Grace.
Jesus said "he who believes and is baptized will be saved" . Peter said get up every one of you and be baptized and wash away your sins.
The saved are those who have faith in grace not those who " accept Jesus what ever that means".

Its no where recorded that any apostle directed anyone to say a sinner prayer .

The ones who say to him "Lord, Lord" and are yet rejected are the ones who claim works. Saying we did the stuff in your name.

Decision theology always turns into works salvation and the irony is that we Lutheran are accused of being "too catholic". Works is a corner stone of Catholicism.

we are saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Roman chapter 10:9-10
confession= acceptance = faith

belief = action which one can do after the Holy Spirit opens the mind and heart of one to receive. Through the preaching of the Gospel.

Sounds like conflation to justify a non biblical concept invented by revivalists just over 100 years ago. Leading to the necessity of works as evidence. No thanks

I did not know Romans chapter 10 was written by a man who did the work of an evangelist.

WE are saved by grace through faith, not of works lest any man should boast. Call on the name of the Lord. You shall be saved. I think God is fully capable of knowing who is calling and who is not. I think God is fully capable of knowing who he hAS CALLED AND WHO he IS ABLE TO SAVE.

The Gospel is the POWER of God unto salvation. God, Jesus and said this well before 100 years ago :)

Just looking at practice in many evangelical churches, it seems like they take 'accepting Jesus' just means to repeat some prayer that mentions the name of Jesus. So often they don't tell the audience Who Jesus is, that He is the Son of God, that He died on the cross or rose from the dead.

This hits on a main reason why this approach, claiming you must do good works, persists. It comes from a desire to promote more good works with an underlying fear, looking at the condition of the world, that they will entirely desist. But shouldn't we trust God that we will see goodness? Whether anyone else does good or not, as for me, "Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever."

It depends what is meant by 'accepting Christ'.

Here is how our walk starts...

John 1:12 (KJV) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

What more shall we add?

I think you have a good point, bUt Jesus said to the Church I will build my church on this " You are there Christ, the Son of the living God," and the gates of Hell will not prevail.

God has placed the responsibility of winning souls on the Church through the Gospel Message, which is to be preached. The good works is winning souls as Jesus left the 99 for the one we are to do the work Jesus did and greater works which is winning souls.

The book of Acts was built on evangelism.

You are definitely different for an American. In fact you are a citizen of God.
There’s typically two topics that American Christians talk about.
1. Salvation
2. Revelations/Rapture.

In my teachings we were told to focus in living THIS life like Christ.
Salvation and revelation were minor things we talked about.
You are living now in-Christ and are a citizen of Heaven.

God bless you for the radiance and love that you show. May God give it back to you tenfold.

I never knew it was so much chatted about! Its an important topic. It wasn't that long ago i was an easy beliveism subscriber, or should say i had a pretty vague understanding. My good friend brought me to the scripture (narrow gate etc). i have known for him for 40 years. Took a gestational period. He helped me write the best part of the piece, but never told me to post that it. No! I shouldn’t stir up something that is so divisive with no certain results. i have no idea if it helps or hurts! Maybe allow the HS and others to help the individual, as it happened for me! Just thinking!

you've hit the nail square on the head, Brother (y)

the problem with the MAJORITY of American Believers, and you see it all throughout this Forum, their upbringing in most Protestant Denominations spent more time Defining Doctrines, Defining Dispensations, Defining the Time Periods from Ascension to Second Coming and adding the Rapture somewhere before the end.

you are correct that NONE OF THIS MATTERS in relationship to our Salvation. but the Doctrines have become BLINDERS and what i read more often than none in each thread is not God's Holy Word, but how man has categorized it. WHO CARES WHAT MAN THINKS! if he knew what he was doing he would not have created so many STUMBLING BLOCKS that we're reading about and revealing man's idealism.

you are CORRECT it is ALL ABOUT LIVING LIKE JESUS DID!

this Thread is a true Blessing because look how lost most participants are based upon the Doctrines being posted.

if we were more like Jesus, we would be continually doing GOOD WORKS, which is the Father's Will for us!

there's roughly 15 people participating in this specific thread. if we all witnessed to 3 people each, there would potentially be 15 NEW MEMBERS OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD! that is what it is all about!
