The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 3:21
Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

God forbids that we think the Law is against the promises of God, or rather to think the Law is prior or preeminent to the promises of God. Remember why Paul is telling the Galatians what he is telling them, as it is because they are being tempted to go under the Law, which will only result in the experience of death, and a forfeiture of the blessings, for the Law is not of faith (v. 12), and anything that is not of faith is sin (Romans 14:23). Everything God has for His people is free, not to be worked for (1 Corinthians 2:12), by us because Jesus did the work!!

Note here how that Righteousness is related to Eternal Life, and know that the two can never be separated. The MAIN TOPIC AND CONTEXT of all of God’s Word is His Righteousness, as all of His Words are “In Righteousness” (Proverbs 8:8). Through faith in Jesus Christ and His work of Redemption, we have become Righteous in Christ (Romans 6:17-18, 2 Corinthians 5:21). His Righteousness is only revealed in the Gospel (Romans 1:16-17) to those who are trusting in His Word in THIS context as they go from faith to faith (Romans 1:16-17, 10:17), and imparted through faith in the Gospel, whether it be for our initial position of Righteousness or bearing His Righteous fruits daily. The experience TODAY of Eternal Life can never be separated from bearing His fruits of Righteousness and it can in no way be experienced through Law/Works, thus you have this letter to the Galatians and also to us today.

Your Word for Today

“then Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost (Jn. 19:30).

What was finished?

The great Plan of God, which had been formulated in the Mind of the Godhead from before the foundation of the world (I Pet. 1:18-20), by the death of Christ on the Cross, was now finished. The story of Jesus Christ and Him Crucified is, in fact, the emphasis of the entirety of the Bible. All of eternity marched toward this one great happening. Every act on this Earth, at least that which was of the Lord, had, as its goal, only the Cross of Christ. That which the First Adam had lost, the Last Adam now purchases back with the death of Himself.

The phrase, “He gave up the ghost,” is, in the Greek Text, quite another word from “expired.” In John, the Holy Spirit emphasizes the voluntary nature of His Death. The special word found here is never used in this way in the Bible, except in this Passage in reference to Christ.

Verses 33 through 35 and Verses 38 through 42 are fundamentally valuable as affirming beyond controversy the actual death of Jesus Christ. The added testimony of the Centurion (Mat., Chpt. 27) is also most valuable. For the doom to which the sinner is justly sentenced was death under the Wrath of God; if Christ did not really die and suffer that Wrath, then the Divine sentence has not been satisfied and the sinner is not released.

But thank God, the Divine sentence was satisfied; all are released from the terrible debt of sin, at least all who will believe (Jn. 3:16).

The moment that Jesus died on the Cross, the Scripture says, “And, behold, the Veil of the Temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the Earth did quake, and the rocks rent” (Mat. 27:51). This means that Redemption was now complete. The price had been paid, meaning the sin debt has been lifted; the way is now open to God, even to His very Throne, at least for all who put their Faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did for us at Calvary’s Cross.

The “finish” of that great Plan did not await the Resurrection, even though the Resurrection was most definitely necessary, as would be overly obvious. The reason it did not await the Resurrection is simply because Jesus atoned for all sin on the Cross, past, present, and future, which guaranteed the Resurrection. If Christ had failed to atone for even one sin, then Jesus could not have been raised from the dead. The reason is simple! “The wages of sin is death” (Rom. 6:23). But due to the fact that all sin was atoned, the Resurrection was in no way in doubt.

It was at the Cross where the terrible sin debt was paid; at the Cross where the Righteousness of God was completely satisfied; at the Cross where a thrice-Holy God had His Holiness vindicated; at the Cross where the way to God was made completely open; at the Cross where the lost sons of Adam’s fallen race could make peace with God! It is finished!”

Bread Crumbs “Warring By Grace” August 2

Spiritual warfare is a fact of the Christian life. The moment we are saved we enter into the war to end all wars. Spirits of darkness are real. Principalities and powers are present and fanatically opposed to what we believe, what we try to portray, and the proclamation of Jesus as Lord. In this battle there is no quarter asked and no quarter given. In order for us to traverse successfully through the spiritual mayhem there is a simple process that we must learn to embrace. First, the believer must learn to rest in Christ. As we depend holistically upon who He is and what He has done, the whole armor of God settles upon us and the Word of God becomes our sword. Second, we must learn how to rely on the grace of God to empower, strengthen, and transform us. By His grace we learn to walk worthy of our vocation as a Christian. We have the responsibility of being a light to a darkened world. Third, we must learn to stand in the power of the might of the Lord. The enemy is closing in. The battle is raging. We must be ready. I am glad that I know the Lord Jesus Christ and that I have chosen to fight for the winning side.

Ephesians 6:12 - For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 3:22
But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

God has declared that ALL are UNDER sin, which is referring to being GUILTY UNDER sin (Psalm 143:1-2, Deuteronomy 27:26), and that the only Way out and into the pardon and power which He offers is through His Son, and what He did at the cross on our behalf. It is only by faith OF Jesus Christ, which means what He did by Grace (Hebrews 2:9), through faith at the cross because He loved us (Galatians 2:20). The Law played the part of confirming our guilt of ever increasing sin (Romans 5:20), which was supposed to cause us to cry out for a coming Savior who would justify us from our sins (v. 24).

Don’t be duped into thinking that Law is exclusively the 10 commandments of Moses or the other Jewish Laws of the Old Covenant, for whatever we are being told to DO, EVEN THE GOOD THINGS WE SHOULD BE DOING, become Law if we are trusting in them and expecting to be saved or to be Righteous before God through faith in them. God has only given man ONE object of faith and it was promised way back in the Garden of Eden to our first parents (Genesis 3:15), and that object is Jesus Christ, The Seed of the Woman, and what He would do through His Sacrifice for us on the cross. You move away from that and you move away from God (Galatians 1:6). Cling to the Cross and Live!

Bread Crumbs “Holy Spirit Strength” August 3

The power of redemption holds a strength and a wonder that cannot be matched by any man, being, or energy within the world today. When the believing sinner comes to Christ in faith, He is welcomed with open arms and the life changing strength of the Holy Spirit goes to work. Immediately, that person is united spiritually with Christ. In the mind of God the new believer is crucified with Christ, buried, and raised into newness of life. The Holy Spirit recreates the spirit and soul of the individual, thus forming the anchor of the new creation. With the sin stain of man wiped clean by the applied blood of Christ, the Holy Spirit is legally free to move inside the new believer and promptly begins a progressive sanctifying work. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus inaugurates its initial effects upon the clinging vines of the fall and all ungodliness in any form must fall sway to this overcoming power. This new life begins and is marvelously maintained by the simple cause and effect of faith and grace. Thank God that His power for total victory comes as a result of our simple faith in Christ and His redemptive act on Calvary.

Romans 8:2 - For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 3:23
But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

Before faith came, referring to the One Jesus Christ, who would come, and out of love give Himself for us by Grace (Hebrews 2:9), through faith (Galatians 2:20) at the Cross. It took THAT faith through that work of Righteousness (Isaiah 32:17, 2 Corinthians 5:21) for us to be able to believe unto Righteousness (Romans 10:10) and escape the bondage of being under Law. Yes, even us Gentiles were subject to the Law (Romans 2:14-15).

The Faith had to be revealed in and through the person and the work of Jesus Christ at Calvary. His perfect faith carrying out the perfect will of the Father. Jesus was without sin, so that He could pay the price for all Sinners. He died for ALL because ALL were dead (2 Corinthians 5:14). The entirety of humanity was classified by God as dead in their sins (v. 22, Romans 3:9), and a dead man cannot pay for anything. Jesus as the Lamb of God had all of our sins placed upon Him and died in our place, revealing The Faith to us. Again, remember this was written to the Church who were removing themselves from the One who had called them unto this grace (Galatians 1:6). Have you removed yourself from Him? They didn’t know they had until they received this letter from Paul, and I’m sure not everyone repented and came back, and so is the case today! Come back to the cross and live!

Bread Crumbs “Losing To Win” August 4

The riches I have found in knowing Christ far surpass any goal or reward that I have ever anticipated. Many refuse to come to Christ thinking of all that they will lose. They see surrender to Christ as a negative. They believe that all the enjoyment in life and the fulfillment of life can only be experienced by the pursuit of the goals and desires they have set for themselves. They feel that life in Christ would be far too restrictive to their idea of “fun.” Just the opposite is true. I never knew true joy until I had my sin penalty removed. Christ removed it as far as the East is from the West. I never knew true satisfaction until I came into the experiential knowledge that the power of sin could no longer dominate and degrade my life’s hopes and dreams. I never knew true ecstasy until I experienced the fullness of God’s Spirit rolling along the contours of my inner being. I never knew what a dream come true felt like until I began to walk with the Savior and let Him gather together the fragmented pieces of my life. I implore you to give your heart to Christ! In doing so you will discover the riches that real dreams are made of!

Proverbs 8:18 - Riches and honor are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 3:24
Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

How wonderful it is to know that the Law which God gave Israel, although it increased Sin in their lives (Romans 5:20), was also to cause them to be taught to look for their justification through the promise of a Savior that God had said He would send to justify them by faith! The Law is not of faith (Galatians 3:12), and anything that is not of faith is sin (The Sin Nature) (Romans 14:23). This faith spoken of here is not just faith in faith, but the heart trusting in the Righteous work of Christ which He did by Grace through Faith at the Cross (Hebrews 2:9, Galatians 2:20). The Child of God has “The Measure” of THAT Faith, and no other from the Lord.

When we accept all the fads that men, under the influence of Satan, bring into the Church that distract us from the cross, we are frustrating/denying the Grace of God (Galatians 2:21). Never forget Child of God that although you are Righteous, God is looking for Righteous fruit, which is what He is allowed to do in and through us, and that is never on our own terms, but His alone. The Cross was a LEGAL work, thus you have the term “Justified”, so the Holy Spirit would LEGALLY be able to carry out His work (Romans 8:2), which is always a perfect work. If we are trusting in anything other than Christ and His work at Calvary, it is a Sin (The Sin Nature Ruling) and the Lord will not honor it. Never forget that GOD ONLY HONORS WHAT GOD DOES! We must deny ourselves, take up our cross again today and follow the Captain of our Salvation (Luke 9:23, Hebrews 2:10).

1 Peter 1:17
And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

The Lord is not a respecter of persons, but He surely is watching and judging according to the Christian’s works right now, which is here in the context of our calling on Him “In Fear”, which is through faith in the blood of Jesus (v. 18-19).

Bread Crumbs “Welcome Conviction” August 5

The convicting power of the Holy Spirit is one of the safeguards given to the believer. In Jeremiah 31:33, the Lord promised that the New Covenant would include the moral code of God being implanted within the heart of every individual. There would no longer be a need for ten commandments, for the indwelling Holy Spirit would demand far more of those under Grace than God demanded of those under the Law. The Spirit of God is given to lead us into all truth. That truth includes revealing the wonderful promises and benefits of the New Covenant. But it also includes reproof, rebuke, and conviction for any wrong action, attitude, or thought. The true Grace of God teaches us to recognize and eliminate ungodliness, wrongdoing, or sin of any kind. There are those today that say that the Holy Spirit does not lend His voice to help us recognize our sins. But the true message of Grace does not proclaim any such foolishness. The true message of Grace teaches us that by faith in Christ and the Cross, we can have victory in every area of our lives. Thank God He keeps us safe by convicting us and then provides the means to eliminate the wrong we recognize, through faith and grace!

Titus 2:11-12 - For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, (12) Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 3:25
But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

But after THAT faith is come, THAT Faith being the Faith of the Lord Jesus Christ who loved us and gave Himself for us at Calvary (Galatians 2:20), our trust in Him and His work there alone delivers us from that which we were held under. We are now the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21), and the Law is not for the Righteous man (1 Timothy 1:9). The Righteousness of the Law is now fulfilled in those who walk after the Spirit (Romans 8:4), which is simple and exclusive faith in Christ and His work at Calvary, or we are walking in the Flesh.

What great news it is that Jesus came and saved us by Grace through faith, of which both are gifts, and ours to experience daily when our trust/dependence remains in Christ and His work at the Cross. Why do we talk so much of Calvary? Because we are so easily duped and distracted to trust in other things. If you don’t think so, you really don’t have the discernment that you desperately need. Some tell me they have always trusted in the cross, but what they mean is that they have always known it is what saved them initially, but the question for the Child of God is, “Do we know how the cross pertains to our daily lives each day?” That’s the million dollar question of which can rarely be answered by the Christian! Oh that God’s people would hunger and search for Truth rather than all the other things we have searched for! May more and more reach the point of being fed up with a lukewarm and powerless experience as a Christian! The power is in the Cross of Christ!

Bread Crumbs “Simple Things” August 6

To be content in life is a great gift. It indicates that a person is at peace with who they are, what they have, and what they do. Contented people have discovered the simple truth that it is often the small things that bring the greatest sense of satisfaction. For example, enjoying the home that you live in, sitting in a special chair in that special room, viewing a fire in the fireplace, or a window with a spectacular view. It really doesn't take much to satisfy the human heart. The drive to have, to own, to control, or to possess, all of these can greatly hinder one's ability to be content. The Bible teaches that having food and raiment should be enough. In contrast, the heart of man is overly acquisitive by nature. It is natural for man to want to accumulate things. To follow these desires can lead to a very complicated existence. There is nothing wrong with owning things. But one must be careful not to allow the desire for things to dominate and control. Remember, for those who are in Christ, it is often the simpler things in life that can provide the heart with unrestrained joy, peace, and contentment; no strings attached!

Philippians 4:11 - Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
