Im wondering about this story in the Bible. Why did Jesus ask them not to tell anybody about this miracle?

In other instances of miracles he does ask people to tell others and spread the word.
Or maybe he meant he wanted the daughter to speak for herself and not the parents?
Is it because they laughed at him first and nobody believed him?

The word was spread anyway so am a bit puzzled by this. Anyone could see Jairus daughter was alive again so how could they keep that a secret anyway?

Wasn't it to fulfil scripture? The Jewish hearts were largely hard and calloused, but perhaps not so hard that they would not believe should they know that Jesus raised someone from the dead? If the Jews came to believe in Jesus before His time, perhaps the crucifixion wouldn't have happened, and then where would Gentiles be? (Or even Jews for that matter, as Jesus needed to die for them).

Matthew 13:10-17
10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

And Christ also told some (at certain times) not to spread the word. It would be difficult to attribute a specific reason for this other than the fact that Christ was not seeking fame (even though it did come to Him regardless).

In John 7 Jesus didn't go up to Jerusalem openly because it was not yet His time and the Jews were after Him
Another reason might be that miracles may produce awe but not faith. Better they heard His words.

There are certain details of this Miracle that only Pharisees and the Sanhedrin would understand. Jesus didnt want them to know. This is the Begining of "The Partial Blindness" Paul spoke of. Jesus around this time speaks in parables for the same reason. This Daughter is Antithetical to the Woman with the Issue Of Blood. Both are Symbols of Israel. Post Issue and Pre Issue. Very deep study. I taught this two weeks ago to an Advanced Class.

Was Jairus a Pharisee or part of the Sanhedrin? It says she was a ruler in the syngagogue. The Pharisees were out to kill Jesus, probably because they were jealous or felt threatened by Jesus power? It would put them out of a job...?

Or Jesus was being humble. I suppose he felt people werent ready yet as he went on to do further miracles only where people believed and have faith, not where they laughed at him or didnt honor him...he also said to disciples if nobody received him in His name to shake the dust off your feet and move on.

I guess in some places it would have felt like He was run out of town or made a laughing stock. And fame can be very scary at times. Jesus was crucified in public after all, He was exposed and had no privacy from then on like a celeb. Even today we treat celebs like public property and tend to assume they actually want all the fame.

Can you explain this further I'd be very interested to know.
The woman with 12 years issue of blood and the twelve year old daughter were they somehow related to each other? Both were healed but I do wonder if they knew each other. And interesting that Jesus would say the virtue had gone out of him. What did he mean by that?

Read the Bible with a Hebrew Mindset, Levitical Culture and Language studies. Every name in the Bible is a Phrase. Every Letter in Biblical Hebrew is also a number with Symbolic meaning to Jews. Every Letter, Number is also an Object, that fits the word and sentence. Biblical Hebrew, speaks volumes that Gentiles dont get. But Gentiles get the surface meaning and thats good. The Gospels are full of Jewish prophesy fulfilment and meaning. Case in point. Jesus was healing Jews of sickness. In the OT God made a covenant "I will put none of these diseases upon you(Sin and Get sick)" if you do this. They didnt live up to it. Under this covenant Jews dont get sick. When Jesus showed up most were sick and in sin. Jews knew the Prophesies that when the Massiah comes He will heal the sick. Jesus begain healing saying "You faith made you whole" when He healed. Later He said "Thy Sins Be Forgiven Thee". Jews got mad, "Now You Forgive Sins". Jesus reply was, "Whats The Difference". They knew very well what He was doing. Healing a Jew is Forgiving Sin. Every Healing has specific information about the person and the Sin based in Leviticus.. Thats why people were told to go to the temple and offer a specific Sacrifice for a specific Healing dealing with Sin. Some Rabis wrote that No red cord had turned white(Scape Goat Sacrifice) in 400 hundred years, therefore Sin had not been forgiven in at least 400 years. Imagine the Chief Priests reaction, when someone he knew was healed and not the result of his offering the Sacrifice. SHOCK and FEAR. This Chief Preist was not Genetic, Look at Jesus Pedigree. He is Not only Chief Priest But Genetic King also, because of "The Blood Curse" in the OT, he was adopted(Seed Of The Woman). Under Levitical Law, Because Jesus is not from Man(Joseph, Blood Curse) and Virgin Born from "The Holy Spirit". Being Adopted He has all Rights and Privileges of both sides of His Human Parents, not just His Father In Heaven. Very Cool Study. I blew my mind again. I need Ice Cream.

What does the name Jairus mean?

I guess at the time people didnt want to admit their sins or they were sinful, and that sin was impacting on their women like the woman with 12 years blood couldnt go anywhere and anyone who had a sick or dying daughter was probably seen as a parent who had failed.

I do know those who are afflicted often get blamed for their illnesses as if they could have done smething to prevent it but all the time babies are born with things they never asked to live with and children have to deal with being disabled.

They are Both the Twelve Tribes, like the woman in Revelation with the 12 stars. Old Woman has Sin issue of Blood (Willful Sin Happens to all of us in time). Young Woman has not reached puberty yet and is therefore undefiled, yet born in sin and suffer Death as the result of sin. Jesus Restores from Willful Sin and Restores Sin Of Flesh by being Born in sin and pre "Age Of Accountability", is the Sign to the Jews. Jesus got tired of giving His Learned People Signs and hid things from them. He spoke in Parables for Dummies like me, so I can do Homework and learn of Him. LOL
I SKIMMED This. Before anybody "Burns Me At The Stake" Please ask any Questions and give me a chance to answer. I teach an Advanced Class for PHD Level Theology. Im not an Idiot.

Isnt everyone from adam and eve onward 'born in sin' or are some just born righteous?
Was Cain born in sin and Abel born righteous?

I dont quite understand, please enlighten us idiots.
Those born blind often parents get blamed but we can also be blinded by accident or illness. Louis Braille was blinded as a toddler when an awl got stuck in his eye, the parents may have blamed themselves for not watching him.

The issue of blood for 12 years is there a medical name for that, I dont know how any woman vould survive or what would cause someone to have an endless period of menstruation, though we cant assume its always a sexual sin. A lot of young women who experience purberty at first dont know why this even happens.

They dont get told or taught so its a complete surprise and they often dont know how to handle it. Do they get told Congrats your childhood is over! or hide themselves away in shame. Heres a pad.

The other intersting thing is because of blood loss many women used to faint all the time, and this does make women known as the weaker sex. Because period pain is real.

I sometimes think well Jairus daughter may not have truly died just been having a bad day and needed a lie down. Exahusted? Or faint. She may have looked unconcious. All Jesus did maybe was to tell her to get up. And he did say no shes just sleeping, but others thought she was dying.

I take that to mean that healing power had gone out of Jesus. I found it very amusing when Jesus asked who had touched him even though he was surrounded by people pressing against him. Of course, Jesus really did know who had touched the hem of his cloak.

She was very definitely dead, and the mourners were there because of it. Had she not been dead, there would have been no need for Christ to go to her. The father said that she was lying at the point of death, and Christ did not contradict him. When Christ said she was merely "sleeping" that was because He anticipated her resurrection (just like that of Lazarus). And the great astonishment of those who saw her raised from the dead is proof that she was not merely unconscious.

Ungers Bible Dictionary and Strongs concordance are great for looking up meanings in Hebrew and Greek. I can look up Jarius. Give me a minute. I just got home from PHX

Virtue is what it is, Sinlessness went out of Jesus and made the woman Sinless(She got saved)

OK here we go. Jairus(G2383 in Strong's) is the Greek form of an OT Hebrew name (H2971). Meaning "Enlightener". See H215 the root of this word in Hebrew means "Break Of Day" "Glorius" "Kindle" "Light" "Set On Fire" "Shine". Sorry I took so long

One would likely have to be a Pharisee to be a "Ruler In The Synagogue. A Sad U See wouldnt be Honored by Biblical Jews because of Bad Doctrine.
