I used those two verses together because those verses are related. It is by the Spirit of God that demons are cast out according to Matthew 12:28. So the context in Matthew 7:22 and Luke 9:1-2 are that there are the 12 that Jesus chose to give the Holy Spirit to and then there are those who can perform mighty works but aren't known to God as described in Matthew 7.

Does that help you or did you read those verses a different way?
They are related in topic......sorta......but not to whom Jesus is addressing. Makes a huge difference in understading just who has authority in His name and who does not.

The way I interpret it is the audience changes, but the Power by which demons are cast out always remains consistent. So there is no variation regardless of the scenario. That's what I am trying to say. Others outside of the 12 Disciples had the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told his followers to not stop them.

Well, you are just plain wrong about that. Looks like you are getting teaching that is not in scripture.

"You're plain wrong." doesn't really prove I'm wrong. It just proves you wasted a reply making a non-point.

The way discussions work is either you agree or disagree providing supporting evidence.

Let me ask a question then:

Do you think people can cast out demons in the name of Jesus Christ by some other power beside the power of the Holy Spirit?

Name six people who are casting out "demons" today.

Regular Christians with gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Sign gifts were to the Jews, by Jews. When the last apostle died, those gifts ceased. There ARE gifts of the Holy Spirit to us for use inthe chuch. Those are active and Christians make good use of them.

I'm signing off for tonight.......I wish you well on your journey.

Simply put, no one is called Rabbani, that is my Great Teacher, other than Jesus-Yeshua...

All who learn of Him are disciples beginning with the Twelve.

1COR. 12:27.
Now you are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
28.
And God has set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers,
after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
29.
Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
30.
Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
31.
But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way.
