I suppose the laws were intended to show just how difficult it was to
be righteous on our own. One way or another every person would break
them, either intentionally or unintentionally.
It makes it all the more spectacular that Jesus came to bear that heavy load
of sin and impute us with his righteousness.
People should feel relieved they no longer have to carry around all those
Torah laws any more. I don't even think I would have remembered them all!
Its interesting though to speculate on whether there was a deeper spiritual
symbolism behind them. I was thinking of the parable of
the wise and foolish virgins who were all suppose to keep the lamps
burning until the groom came.
Maybe the kindle thing was about being prepared and ready - just imagine if God
had shown up on their sabbath and no food or heat was available.
But then there is the example or a Mary and Martha where that literally did happen.
One was frantic making preparations, the other sat and had a sabbath days rest.
Wow I could really go off on a tangent with this one, I'm sure there is a good
sermon in there somewhere.
Wow Jesus wants us to rest in Him, Hallujah what a saviour.
