The parable of the rich man and Lazarus is a parable Look at the way Jesus starts His parables

Luke 10:30

(30) And Jesus answering said,
A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

Luke 12:16
(16) And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of
a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

Luke 13:6
(6) He spake also this parable;
A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

Luke 14:16
(16) Then said he unto him,
A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

Luke 15:11
(11) And he said,
A certain man had two sons:

Luke 16:1
(1) And he said also unto his disciples, There was
a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.

Luke 19:12
(12) He said therefore,
A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
Luke 20:9

(9) Then began he to speak to the people this parable;
A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.

Notice how all these parables start now look at how the parable of the rich man and Lazarus starts.

Luke 16:19
(19) There was
a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

He yearns to have his 2,000 years of scorching pain eased; the pain of scorn and hatred he has suffered under God's hand of judgment.

The rich man is in heaven. And there is a divide .He can see God and Abraham there in that parable. Would it make more sense that the Fire he is experienceing is a emotional one . The rich man can see the overcomers but he did;nt covercome. so he is an outsider in heaven. and maybe there is also a physical gulf. So he awaits there in heaven on that side until Christ return or Judgmentday i guess. Makes no sesne to me that he would be litterealy in flaimes while in heaven.

Is this an assumption or what ? where is this written that you posted---->"" Individuals may cross over as the Lord bids, which is a rarity, but not the nation"". I mention that because that statment makes me think there may be some other asumptions in the post. : /

I belive it's literal, especially the parts about when a drop of water can sooth his pain and how it's possible to have a rational conversation when on fire, defiantly literal, also, I bet the fact that the mans name was Lazarus and how Abraham said that even if Lazarus rose from the dead, the mans brothers would belive, and that after Jesus rose a man named Lazarus and the Pharisees didnt belive, is simply a coincidence./sarcasm

Mik,, not just the fire is everlasting . Why would God have fire burn by itself forever?

Why do you think you get to die forever when you get cast into the lake of fire ? You= unbelievers

Do you think we are going to have an earthly body to.get burned up?

Think about all what I just said.
Jude 7
In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

Look at the example(sodom and Gomorrah, and surrounding towns) they serve as an example of those who suffer eternal fire, and according to 2 Peter 2:6
if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
This eternal fire burned the cities to ashes, and made them an example of what will happen to the ungodly.

the only two names he uses are Abraham and the beggers name. This is to show God knows the men of Faith by name. The rich man is not named because he is viewed by God as a sinner not of the faith.

If it starts out like a parable, sounds like a parable, told in the middle of other parable, its probably a parable.
Please note how Jesus Himself starts His Parable.

1) A certain man had a fig tree planted ..... ..(Luke 13:6)
2) A certain man made a great supper .. ... ..(Luke 14:16)
3) A certain man had two sons .. .. .. . . (Luke15:11)
4) There was a certain rich man .... .. .. (Luke 16:1)
5) There was a certain rich man ... .. .. (luke16:19)
6) There was in a city a judge ... ... .. (Luke 18:2)
7) Two men went up to the temple to pray .. .. (Luke 18:10)
8) A certain nobleman went into ... ... .. (Luke 19:12)
9) A certain man planted a vineyard ... .. (Luke 20:9)

All these are PARABLES, they start like parables, they sound like parables, they are taught as parables.
Please read my chapter on my website called Where After Death, which talks about the ins and outs of this Lazarus issue if it be a parable or no.

Strange, in every statement that Jesus says "a certain" is always a parable, but somehow this generation takes the parable of the rich man and Lazarus to be literal, when it also starts out "There was a certain rich man" EXACTLY like the prior parable in Luke 16:1 starts out "There was certain rich man" But that one they say is a parable, yet the other which starts exactly the same way is not a parable, they are deceived and know not the Truth. People who believe that parable is literal are the same people who believe when you die you immediately go to Heaven, and inevitably they use this parable to back up that belief, and say it is literal and not a parable, despite the fact that it is in the middle of all of Jesus parable teaching, see it above Chapter 13,14,15,16,18,19 and 20

What spiritual food have you ingested with these passages of Jesus' words? I f so you have found it good to your soul then why make it ill to others by trying to force feed them to what you have experienced, Taste and see that the Lord is good to you in what you have tasted with His word, Jesus never forced feed anyone His words or power from out of Him mankind either injested or refused, how much more so to and for us who believe? Eat your own spiritual food and be satisfied to produce fruits of the Holy Spirit from it, contentions of cogantive thought with out experiencing the Holy Spirits food of Jesus' nature and personality should be considered whether you want to take it in your soul or not, taste and see that the Lord is good to your own soul force feeding someone non fruits of the Spirit will usually be refused.

Jesus specifically identified his parables as such, by name, using the word "parable," which is nowhere found here. Therefore, to claim that this is a parable would be adding to God's word. That's about all there is to it.
I would like you to explain Mark 4:11, 33, 34,. v. 11 say to you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God;but to them who are outside, ALL things come in PARABLES,
v.33 and with many such PARABLES he spoke the word to them.as they were able to hear it.
v.34 but without a parable he did NOT speak to them. and when they were alone, he explained all things to his disciples.God bless.
