My puppy dog is really sick, and some of the things she does made me think about how much our relationship with God should resemble a dog's relationship with us.

When Chloe got sick, she came to me, curled up in my lap and just wanted to be comforted. When she's hungry, she looks to me. When she needs to go out, she looks to me. When she wants to play, she looks to me. When she's tired, she comes to me. When Harley (our other dog) is picking on her, she comes to me.

She doesn't look for her own food, she doesn't try to do it all herself, she doesn't sit in the corner by herself and mope or just deal with it...she puts all her trust into me. When she doesn't feel good, she knows that if she comes to me, I'll make it better. If she's hungry, she can come to me and I'll feed her. If she's tired, she can come to me and rest. If she's being picked on and is stressed or just wants to be left alone, she comes to me to protect her.

That's how I feel we should be with God. We should put all our trust in Him as our Lord. When something happens, the first thing we should do is go to God, not to our friends. When we need something, the first thing we should do is go to God, not just figure it out somehow. When we need comfort, or rest, or protecton, we should seek God, not try to just deal with it.

It's beautiful, too, because she doesn't wonder when she'll get fed she just knows she will. She doesn't know how I'll make her better, just that I will. Not only do they trust us, they have faith in us, too. So next time you pray, dont' wonder when God will answer it, just know that He will.

I often think about my pups and my relationship with God, as well. Animals are saints because they are doing what they were created to do. They can be great examples for us when it comes to obeying God, but we also have to deal with freewill.

I also think about my own compassion and mercy when it comes to my dogs - then I think about God's mercy for me and how much greater it must be. One of the troubling things I have had to deal with among some Christians is there description of God's character is so small. They describe God with less compassion than I have for my own pets - Instead, Jesus told us that we are no longer servants, but friends!

Praise God!

Jesus said that He no longer calls us slaves, but friends, and such we are if we love one another. The slave does not know what the master of the house is doing, but the friend knows what the Master is doing. He wants to be our closest friend. I know that there is not one thing that I cannot talk to Him about, and that is very hard to say about any other being I know. I have one friend in this world, a brother in Christ, who I can share anything with, and he with me. And still, not as close as we both are to Christ. And in truth, our friendship with each other is based on our friendship with Christ Jesus.

I praise Jesus for you sister.

Very well put, I have never thought of it like this before. Thank you for this, I am sure somewhere some day I will use this as an example as it is one that we can all relate to.
God Bless.

I grew up with a white and gold German shepherd-collie. He enjoyed “wrestling” with me when I was small but apparently grew intimidated by my size as I grew up. Finally, when he was old, he came to understand that I didn’t want to hurt him, when I made ferocious gestures and noises. He wouldn’t wrestle with me, but rather than get a frightened look in his eyes, he would get a very peaceful look when I became “ferocious.”

Awww Resurrection. I went to go see my puppy today at the hospital, and she as smiling and looking at me with her little puppy eyes and wagged her little nubby tail and sat there and licked my hand the entire time. She was so happy to see me, and I think she felt better knowing I may not have been right there with her the entire time, but that I was thinking about her and that I was gonna come back for her. I think that way about God, too. I may not always see Him or feel Him, but I always know He's there and will be there when I need Him.

Lol Maddog. Cats are like how we normally act with God. We only go to Him when we want something, otherwise if He comes near us, we'll maul Him. Cats give me allergies, but I looooove them.

I learnt a lot, about my selfishness with God, from my cat

It seems like people who love dogs, but have no tolerance for the independent nature of cats, have issues with self esteem. My dogs seem to worship me and although I enjoy them, there attention is way, way over the top. Cats are able to manage without being so needy.

I think God is more of a cat personage :) His self esteem is not based on our constant fawning over Him.

Not that is just silly - haha

Well, hey, I don't have trouble with self esteem, I don't have any.

I really wonder if cats even love their master, or owners, or whatever.

If I can be compared to a good dog, who adores his Master, then that is a blessing to me.

Every good dog I have ever had has always tested me, to see if I really am in charge. Every one has been so intelligent that it is at times scary to contemplate. Every one has been loyal to a "T", much more than I am to my Master.

I like cats to, and even weirder, cats like me.

so do i have this right?

it is a contest between you and the dog to see who is more intelligent

I am obviously intelligent

because my cat's training of me has been a resounding success:D

My oldest dog acts like a cat. He perches on top of the couch and just lounges there all day. If I try to act goofy and get him excited, he sort of just stares at me, then yawns. If I throw his ball, sometimes he'll go get it then bring it back, and if I throw it again, he gives me this look like...okay idiot, I just went and got that for you...if you're just going to keep throwing it, I'm not doing you anymore favors. And, no matter what chair I'm sitting in, or which cushion on the couch I've got...it's his and he will push his way under me to sit there.
