Hey.

I've been thinking a lot about some stuff that just won't get out of my head. You might find it weird, and if so... I don't care.

1. Why Would God choose Israel as "his people"? No, this is not because I'm jelaous or anything, it's more like, why choose a people to begin with? are we not all Gods children? Do we not all deserve to be saved? what about those millions of people out there, who've never had a chance of hearing about God? It seems to me, that he pretty much doomed them. Merciful God? hm...

2. Christians believe that their faith will save them. So do muslims, jews etc.
Isn't it weird how religions just pop up in history all by themselves, if christianity in fact is the only true faith? Why does that happen? I mean, as humans we're aware of ourselves and we know that we're going to die. This obviously scares us, so we invent religions to explain why we are here, and to tell us what is going to happen after death. Now the question is, which religions are invented, and which are human-made.
Someone willl probably quote Hebrews 11:1; "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see." And tell me that all I can do is believe that my faith is the right one. You're right, but the muslims probably tell each other the same thing..

3. Why do men have nipples? If we were created first by God, why put nipples on us? we have no use of them at all. the scientific explanation to this is, that we're all female untill the 6th week of our foster stadium. after that we split up to be either girls or boys, depending on our genes.
(This implies to me, that we're not created by god. =evolution.)

4. Why do humans have fangs? Or what you could call what's left of fangs anyway. you know, 2 above and 2 below. Again evolution seems more likely, than created by a God.

5. Believing in God is just another selfish act. That's not a question, it's what religion in generel seems like to me. Would we worship God, or even care about him, if we had eternal life here on earth? It's becoming more and more obvious to me, that people believe in God and "love" him, because he saves us and promises us a life after death. A very depressing thought to me.

I've been a christian all my life. My parents started taking me with them to christian meetings for children when I was 3 years old, and since then I've had Jesus in my life. Lately though, I've been having these thoughts, and I realise I'm affraid of dying. really afraid of it actually. That must mean I'm not a christian.. Never heard of a true christian who were afraid of dying anyways.
I don't want to lose my faith, but I'm tired of fighting my own logic all the time.. Don't really know what to do about it, except praying, which I am. -> and so far, nothing.

Israel was to be the evangelists of the world. In Romans it says that even during the OT time, people were saved by faith. Anyone seeking God will find Him and God can reveal Himself and that person can be saved.

2. Christians believe that their faith will save them. So do muslims, jews etc.
Isn't it weird how religions just pop up in history all by themselves, if christianity in fact is the only true faith? Why does that happen? Christianity espouses a faith that is not irrational. I believe Christianity to be true because it is the one faith and philosophy that has rational answers for my questions. It does require me to go beyond what I can know objectively, but not irrationally.
Someone willl probably quote Hebrews 11:1; "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see." And tell me that all I can do is believe that my faith is the right one. You're right, but the muslims probably tell each other the same thing..

Because we are half female and half something else. That is the definition of male. It is interesting that Christianity is one of the few faiths in which all mankind springs from the male instead of the female.

4. Why do humans have fangs? Or what you could call what's left of fangs anyway. you know, 2 above and 2 below. Again evolution seems more likely, than created by a God.
The cuspid are functional. we are omnivores and so are equipped to eat almost anything.

Christianity may begin selfishly, but it does not stay that way. It transforms you into a tree bearing the fruit of the Sirit. Read the passage in Galatians and you see the formula for unselfishness.

You are going through a crisis of faith. Look at the life of Isaac. he grew up in the faith, but until he stopped walking in the footsteps of his father, Abraham, he was not fully walking in faith. I think this is what is happening to you. You must find your own walk of faith, not because of your parents' faith or because of your church, but because you are fully convinced. God bless and I will pray for you...

Asking questions is good.

1. I don't know. Maybe God knew Israel was an enduring people and were going to be around long enough to share His message to the rest of His people.

2. I don't know. Maybe Jesus died for all people and we create religions to address the needs of the moment. Joseph Smith came up with Mormonism during a time in history when people wanted to know the origin of Native Americans - he provided a provocative answer - it was wrong, but people liked it.

3. I don't know. Maybe Adam didn't have nipples or a belly button. Maybe the Creation account is a Sumerian story that speaks truths about the human condition, but is not a literal account. Maybe it was a dream of Moses that he was unable to recount perfectly - but contains all God wanted to communicate.

4. I don't know. Maybe God set the universe in motion using an evolutionary framework - maybe the Creation account is not the actual creation, but the point in time when people became self-aware.

5. That is depressing. I think God is trying to sanctify our hearts - teach us to not be narcissistic, but to love and serve others. I think the Old Testament is only meant to communicate one fact I AM - God exists - the rest of it is humans attempt to respond to that fact. Obviously we spent a lot of time messing up. I think the NT is God's answer - Jesus is our example of a proper response to God's existence - love God, love yourself, and love others. Of course we continue to screw that up, as well. However, I trust God will continue the good work he has started in our hearts.

We are all afraid of dieing - it is part of the human condition - Existential Philosophy teaches that the fear of death is a primary force in our lives - it has nothing to do with the quality of your relationship with God. Centering prayer really helped me deal with everything you are struggling with - pick up a copy of "The Human Condition" by Thomas Keating - it only a pamphlet - but it deep and satisfying.

In the meantime give yourself a break - God loves you!

Meh, why does anyone, humans, animals, and both genders alike, have nipples?

Maybe God just really wanted us to have them...maybe he thought men would feel left out.

Also...do you think that evolution or a scientific creation is any more plausible. Do you think it was really possible that EONS ago, a single celled whatever just outta the blue came into the most perfect circumstances to begin changing...and then change some more...then did it again, over and over again until there were not only billions of species of animals (including humans who, out of all of them are the only ones that reason, create, and hold systems of belief), but TWO of each kind capable of reproduction?

or....

There is an omnipotent Being who we call God, who decided to create everything the way it is allowing for evolution on a small scale to make sure they can adapt?

Also, a lot of times, people used religion as a way to understand their environment. In places that were particularly known for bad weather, storms, volcanos, earthquakes, etc, their "gods" were often considered spiteful, vengeful, evil, etc. Wherease in places that were peaceful and fruitful, the gods tended to take on much nicer qualities. I think humanity started off knowing God, and as we grew and spread, some tribes decided to stray and adopt gods and idols of their own based on their environment instead of what they knew was true in their heart.

Christianity must have something going for it because it's one of the most popular religions in the world and has been around for a VERY long time despite the advances we've made in the fields of science. There are some things that still can only be explained by God.

hahah, I knew I should've left the nipple question out..

Excelsis and Aspen; thanks! gave me something to think about. :)

Mahogany; meh.. don't answer if you have nothing to say man.. uncool..

Harley; I don't know, the one theory is as possible to me as the other. We believe what we want to believe, as long as proof is missing. You don't think it sounds a little weird that two people made of mud walks around in a big garden where a snake convinces them to eat a fruit, that is forbidden to eat, so they get kicked out of this garden forever?

yes, christianity does have something going for it. A loving God, who takes care of everyone, erases our sins if we repent and who promises us eternal life if only we believe. Appealing to most people I would think..The need to feel more or less safe about what's going on after we die, will always stick with humans, no matter what science comes up with.
Yeah, there are still things that can't be explained, but God doesn't have the answers. You can choose to believe that he has the answers by reading the bible and speaking with him through prayer, but technically they're not "answers". like the whole God-created-the-world-in7-days is not an answer. but you can choose to believe it is the answer. Know what I mean?

I figure, I'd rather live like there is a God and find out there isn't, than live like there is no God and find out there is. Mainly bcause I did live like there was no God once and I was miserable, in trouble all the time, overwhelmed, etc. Then when I found God, my life did a 180 into blissfulnes.

1. God chose Israel because it was weak and despised and God could confound the world with the weakest unimpressive thing He could use.

1 Corinthians 1:24 *But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25 *Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 *For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 *But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 *And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 *That no flesh should glory in his presence.

2. I could say many things to this but just look at if the prophesies in the Bible (or qua-ran or other religious book) and the one that is accurate is the one to pick, and if the Bible isn't the one then don't believe the Bible.

3. Why allot of things why do we only use ten percent of our brain? Why do all languages de-evolve - the older the language the more complex it is. Nose hairs are annoying too. cancer, high blood pressure and anything else people have wrong with there bodies, (the fall of creation is the answer). I believe in de-evolution, mankind and creation were perfect but now after the fall of Adam creation itself is falling apart along with our genes.

(I modernized a few words so look it up in a different version) this was kjv I changed creature to creation and vanity to emptiness)

Romans 8:20 *For the creation was made subject to emptiness, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 *Because the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 *For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 *And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

4. I don't know , they make me look cool. Cows don't have fangs frogs don't either.

5. Your right about that, but it isn't just that. God saves me from me and if I only had myself in this life to find my own way I would be dead because thats where I was heading before I learned the truth that I didn't have to be the way I was or live the way I lived or thought. (read Romans)

You don't think it sounds a little weird that two people made of mud walks around in a big garden where a snake convinces them to eat a fruit, that is forbidden to eat, so they get kicked out of this garden forever?
There is a whole pattern to the creation. First He creates the realms: light, sky & sea, land. Then He creates the rulers over the realms: sun, moon, and stars over light; birds and sea creatures over sky and sea; beasts, cattle, and creepers over land. Then man is made to be regent over all. Man and woman are set in a garden from which the waters of the world flow. They are told to cultivate it, to spread its fertility throughout the world. They are man and out-of-man, united in will and purpose. Two persons, one flesh (in the good sense). Because they have free will, they have the potential for good (the tree of life) and for evil (the tree of knowledge, both good and evil). They are also unique in that they can be of mixed nature. The Serpant (more a title than anyhting else) presents a lie. Man and out-of-man eat and become of mixed nature, having knowledge of good and of evil. Man is no longer in fellowship with God, he is naked. God makes a sacrifice, a type of Christ, and covers man.
This is the point, that God created the world and the garden in a manner which teaches us some important Truths. From the point of an agnostic, it doesn't seem natural because it isn't, it is supernatural.

yes, christianity does have something going for it. A loving God, who takes care of everyone, erases our sins if we repent and who promises us eternal life if only we believe. Appealing to most people I would think..The need to feel more or less safe about what's going on after we die, will always stick with humans, no matter what science comes up with.
Science has not brought assurance, peace or solutions to people. It isn't because it is evil, but it isn't designed to provide the answers to nonscientific questions. Science is only as good as the people who utilize it--us. Unfortunately, though we have the ability to treat or cure almost all disease, to end poverty and to stop violence, we have not.
The questions that can be answered objectively have answers. those which are subjective require faith, no matter what stance you take.

I don't want to lose my faith, but I'm tired of fighting my own logic all the time.. Don't really know what to do about it, except praying, which I am. -> and so far, nothing.

1a. I believe it is explained somewhere that God chose Isreal because they were the weakest and smallest of all peoples. Don't hold me to that though, because there is also the promise made to Abraham.
1b.God's children are the ones lead by His Spirit.
1c.No man deserves to be saved. A person is saved by Grace, that is unmerited favor.
1d. In my understanding which is not dominant in christianity now is this, all men are wicked, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. All men are haters of God by nature. All those millions of people who never heard of Jesus would likewise reject Him unless they were empowered by the Holy Spirit to believe. Is that merciful? Well if a judge has lined up before him criminals who have commited crimes worth of death does He have to pardon them all to be considered merciful? If He did infact pardon them all then would it then be considered mercy since there was no punishment possible to fall on them?

2a. Only christians believe their faith will save them, all other religions are works based, meaning you do good things and what God tells you to and you will go to heaven.
2b. Religion is more the question of why we are here instead of what will happen when we die. A person who believes there is a God in the first place believes so because they don't think existence can exist without something supernatural making it. This might be because people have never seen stuff created out of nothing. Ofcourse in Romans it explains that God has testified of His nature by creation. That's why people believe there is a God.
2c. Which are invented and which are man-made? Is there another option? In my personal experience, I didn't really grow up going to church but that christianity was true. When I started reading the bible recently I realized I didn't really believe it, have you read the gospels? Just a recap, it says a believer can do the same works Jesus did. That is just the icing on the cake btw, a believer will also foresake all that he has and follow Jesus? Do you have that kind of faith? The bible also says that if you do not believe in your heart that Jesus was raised from the dead than your faith is in vain, meaning common and worthless basically. Would you confess that with a gun pointed at your head? I knew that I wouldn't have, so I figured that my faith was worthless. What did I do? I started reading the bible, know what I found out? You can't make yourself believe it. I tried repenting, praying to believe. I couldn't bring myself to believe all the miracles and stuff that is written there. Alot of it didn't make sense honestly, I mean one part says repent and believe and another says no man can come unless they are drawn by the Father. What are you supposed to do then? I had a feeling that the character displayed by Jesus was what God would be like. But was it the truth or just a fairy tale used to munipulate the masses. All these things passed through my head. So I repented. I repented of all the bad things I ever rememebered doing, I repented of all the things I ever did which I thought were good. I prayed, called out to God, begged for mercy, begged to believe. I saw in the bible that only those who were called believed, since I didn't believe, I figured that I could not receive mercy and was doomed to hell if there was such a place. Moreover, looking back on my life, I realized I deserved hell, and any good God was right to send me there. The only hope I clung to was Jesus promising that those who seek would find, those who ask, it would be given to them. It wasn't until I gave in, gave up all hope of willing myself to faith that God revealed it to my heart. He removed any shadow of a doubt of it to me. Even when soon after I wondered if I had dreamed it all up, He gave me proof I couldn't deny. So if you want to know the truth, seek it with all your heart. Being brought up christian doesn't make you saved.

3. Speak for yourself, I make plenty use of my nipples.

4. Since we eat both vegtables(we are supposed to anyway) and meat the fangs as you call them help for chewing/tearing meat. God knows we can't all afford filet minion.

5. I love God because He first loved me. Up there when I was talking about first believing, God showing me the truth, I felt His love. It is more powerful than any human love you will ever know.
Also He gave me a new heart that loves Him, the old one loved sin, but now, the things I once loved, I now hate. God is now beautiful in my eyes. Jesus said, this is eternal life, that we know Him. Honestly, I would still love God if there was no afterlife, even if He were to send me to hell, I could not help it. He put in me a love for Him which nothing can overcome.

So I say to you, if you know Him then all this would make sense. Seek and you shall find. Repent and believe. If you go looking on the internet listening to men and thier own ideas and 'facts' you will be deceived, if the blind lead the blind they will both end up in a ditch, read the bible and pray God reveal it to you.

1.
Do we not all deserve to be saved?

no we all don't deserve to be saved, what we deserve was hell, that is why it is called being saved, through His Mercy and Grace He saved us from what we deserved and gave us life everlasting, Israel became His chosen people through the promised that He made to Abram which became Abraham. Why chose a nation? He wanted someone that He could show Himself strong through , a nation/peoples that could see what Their God did for them and that others could see that Great God that those people served and that others would seek Him as their God also.

Merciful God? hm...

Yes God is very merciful

2, No jews and Muslims do not believe that their God is what saves them, they believe their works for their God is what saves them , that is the difference between Christianity and other religions , others religion is man working their way up to their God, Christianity is Our God, Jesus Christ coming down to where we are and working for us that we might be saved. Christ means the Savior, Messiah. not just someone who was sent form the Father to show us the way to Him , But He was The Way, the truth and the Life

Now the question is, which religions are invented, and which are human-made.

did you really just ask this question and you want us to believe that you can think for yourself, with all of these faithless questions, if a religion was invented it is man-made. actually to be an aethist like yourself, takes more faith to believe that there is no god than for me to believe that there is a God. I mean, bang and all this stuff came about that is alot of faith, over me that believes that there has to be a higher intelligence that as I look around and see the beauty of His creation

3. why did God give you a brain, dude just to waste it on stupid questions such as this , sorry but stupid questions deserves stupid answers, if nipples prove to you or whoever you got all these anti-god questions from that evoltution is real, then they prove that me that it is not real, cause evolution is that we are always improving, if there is no need for men to have nipples, then evolution messed up by letting us have them. and just because you don't know the purpose for men to have nipples does not mean there is not a purpose, just shows me that you don't know everything like you think you do.

4. maybe because we didn't always have forks and knives where we could always cut our meat up into small bite size bits. another flaw in your evolution dude, since we have knives we no longer need the fangs, so if we are improving why did evolution allow us to keep the fangs, wouldn't we still have the tails that we no longer need also,

5. what is depressing to you, to think that there is a better place than what we have here, the whole theory on evolution, is improvement, which you find acceptable, but to think that God would want to improve our life, see you like most of us want the easy way out dude , evolution you don't have to do anything, you are just the stupid creature that sees a need for improvement and bam it happens< But with God, who gave you some responiblties with this improvement, who gave you that measure of faith, in order that you might trust in Him, now we become intelligent and with this wisdom and Knowledge of God we become responsible for our life and the condition of it.

you can call yourself what you want, but you can't be a christian and not believe that there is a God, if you believe that evolution is then you can't believe in The God of Christianity , who:

Joh 1:3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
so just what god are you praying to, the God who made all things, and can fix all things in your life or the God who allowed all things to be made through evolution, and has to wait for evolution to takes it course?? the God who didn't make no mistakes even when He gave us fangs and men He gave nipples, or the God who knows what better for His people, than his own people. do you trust your god to always do the right thing or believ that your god even as great of a god that he is, all knowing, all powerful, but is subject to make mistakes Himself. No I won't quote Hebrews 12:1 but will quote this one that is also found in hebrews

Heb 11:6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

God Loves You, i hope that you can find the true God One day

"Now the question is, which religions are invented, and which are human-made."
actually this was a typing error on my behalf, I was going to say, which religion(s) is/are real, and which are invented. Sorry bout that.
did you really just ask this question and you want us to believe that you can think for yourself, with all of these faithless questions, if a religion was invented it is man-made. actually to be an aethist like yourself, takes more faith to believe that there is no god than for me to believe that there is a God.
atheists doesn't believe in anything at all.. I'm not an atheist.

I'm not saying evolution is real at all, dude. As I said earlier, this is just stuff I've been wondering about. I want to believe that christianity is right. You are a convinced christian, so you see these questions as stupid and I understand that. You're probably right too. I'm asking these questions now, because I feel they're taking over. The questions on evolution were very specific, but are just 2 questions out of many, on that part. The bible questions are also just a few handpicked. I know evolution has flaws. the bible is not perfect either. To be honest I think my only way out of this is praying, and hope God will hear me. You can say that I should've done that to begin with, instead of writing in here and humiliate myself, but it wasn't clear like that to me before. so there you go.

You write that I don't know everything, like I think I do. why? You seem like a clever guy, but this makes no sense at all. I don't think I know everything, actually I've never been more confused in my entire life. I thought I'd made that clear already.

I figure, I'd rather live like there is a God and find out there isn't, than live like there is no God and find out there is. Mainly bcause I did live like there was no God once and I was miserable, in trouble all the time, overwhelmed, etc. Then when I found God, my life did a 180 into blissfulnes.
I'm thinking the same thing but it's doesn't make me feel like a true christian. It seems more like I believe this because I might as well, and then afterwards, if God really exists, I'm safe. I want to be the kind of christian, that doesn't care about death.

I like what giantone says; "God saves me from me." That's what I need.

Thanks for the answers all, they've helped, but not in the way I thought they would. Not a bad thing at all though.

Aww Dane, really dont let the harshness of the responses mold your opinion of the body of Christ. For every one in here has doubted and had questions. As I stated before, I perceive you to be a very intelligent young man. Your parents brought you up in Christ but now it is your turn to truly receive the Lord in faith without the pressure of them or anyone else upon you. It is your choice by faith. You may have said the words before professing Christ as your Lord but perhaps you did it for other reasons. I in no way can validate that Christianity is the right "religion" just by meer words. All I know is I spent my life seeking... I seeked the rest of it and had nothing but turmoil in my life. When I received Jesus as my savior was the instant that I knew I HAVE the truth. For every BAD thing in an instant was washed away. I too wonder about things like evolution but I also accept the fact that GOD is so very much BIGGER than me and my puny mind could never begin to comprehend the things of God. It is not up to me to justify Christ it is the gift of Christ to justify me. I often wonder about my boys who I am bringing up in the faith but know as your mom who loves you knows that when we place you in the hand of our most loving Father that you will endure these times of faith testing and come through as a very solid & grounded man in Christ. I just pray that you will experience the newness of salvation that I experienced in that instant. I've often thought about how it must be a rip off in a way to not have the big deal where you are relieved of so much sin and pain... I'm talking about folks brought up in the Church & my boys. I pray that in an instant you would understand Christ's redemption... not in words but in spirit. God Bless you Dane, my heart goes out to you young man.

Oh & about the whole believing in God just in case... cause I wouldnt wanna be wrong about a thing like that... well ... When I prayed the sinners prayer and requested Jesus in my life it was about internal transformation not intellectual belief. I know... have absolute confidence of my future in the Lord who is my redeemer. I know you know all the phrases and all the doctrine as you grew up in the Church. I pray that internal knowing that comes from the Holy Spirit within would come upon you and set your feet firmly in the foundation of the confidence of the knowledge that YES NO ONE comes to the Father but through CHRIST JESUS. Praise the LORD!!!

I've always found it difficult to keep faith when many questions like that show up. And honestly I'm still trying to find answers for so many things, but this is what I have found.

We can't always rely on our logic to answer questions about our religion. We're flawed beings, over thousands of years just look at how much our logic has changed, what we consider right and wrong seems to change on a regular basis. We like to think that our minds are "evolved", but I'm sure people used to think the same thing when they put people to death for saying the world was round.

That doesn't mean we can't keep trying to answer all the big questions we have, but it means we have to keep this in mind while we do it.

the devil will cause all to doubt if he could for where there is doubt , then there is little faith, I didn't say anything about how smart or stupid you were, but that the question about men having nipples was stupid, almost as stupid as did eve have a belly button, the statements between your questions is not confused statements, but rather staing what you believe for you didn't say if evolution was true , but that evolution had left us with fangs, this young man is not a question, but stating your belief in evolution, which is not of God, god created all things not aided in the evolution of all things, so if there was a frog then god created that tadpole that grew into a frog, not evolved from it , and it didn't take million of years for it to happen either

Thaddaeus;

so to sum up; the questions on evolution were stupid, and I've stated that I believe in evolution.

Fine, as I said before I'm ok with you thinking they're stupid questions, because you get the answers from God and there's no doubt in you.

I've never said evolution has left us with fangs, I said "WHY do humans have fangs?" and I stated that evolution seems more LIKELY to be the answer to this question.

All in all none of these questions matter, I know that. Me believing in jesus christ as my savior is all that matters. ... so why are they and many more still on my friggin mind pretty much from I wake up till I go to bed??

Don't know why I bother bother defending myself in something like this, it has nothing to do with why I started this thread.

Imoss and superhero; Thanks for the replies. :)

I wrote this in here, because the friends I've asked don't know what to answer, and I don't really feel comfortable seeing a priest that I don't know personally.

have been prayed a lot today, so highfive on that one!
