Soo.... My boyfriend and I are going to a church money class on Sunday nights. Our teachers are trying to teach us how to use our money in a Godly organized way. They are trying to teach us how to organize our money so that we have more of it. They say that the first thing you need to do is tithe (give to the church). They say that giving to the church is giving to God. We believe that giving to the least of these (Matthew 25:31) is giving to God. Although, they believe that we should tithe first. But giving to the "least of these" is technically offerings. I don't know who in their right mind would give to the church tithe before giving to a hungry person but could anyone please help us out with more points to bring up? (with scripture preferred)
1Ti 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath
denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Are you a member of that church? If yes, then that is "your own", "your house".
You are to take care of your family first. Priorities are as follow:
1. Immediate family
2. Extended family
3. Neighbor

Is it Biblical to be a "member of that church?" We are all a part of God's Church. As far as church membership in your local church, that is man-made. That is nothing more than a member of an organization. The local church is usually a corporation doing business as a church. Those attending "church services" have a moral obligation to pay their fair share of the bills if they can do without financial hardship. Don't be fooled into believing that when you turn money over to the organized church that you are giving to God. You aren't. You are giving to a corporation doing business as a church.
