No thanks. I have my own starter in the fridge and I have no interest in making vinegar. But yes, I make sourdough bread. Usually in large (14-ish loaf) batches, then I freeze most of it. I live on the stuff. I haven't bought store "bread" in years. The "bread" in the store is spongy, floppy, gummy junk. Even the whole wheat "bread" has no crumb at all, much less a good crumb. I also make bread for various church bake sales and every Christmas I bake up a big lot to give to certain people at church who have said they like my bread.

The only way we could get this thread back on topic would be to bring up baking beans and tie in flatulence as "tooting" in church...

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good on you baking your own bread

(sorry for the derail everyone)

We really ought to have a derail (or off topic thread) at hand off to the side somewheres, oftentimes they are far more edifying then the topics

God bless you!

I did figure out how to ship sourdough starter though. Add flour to a bit of starter until it's about as thick as noodle dough. It'll survive until it reaches its destination. Have the recipient reconstitute it in a batch of sourdough starter food.
That I can do, and thats how I received mine from Sanfranscisco, shipped beautifully

Thanks Lynx

SeaBass, I decided to look up references to heautou in the blueletter Bible to see if the verb was always used of a group performing a collective action.

Mat 14:15
And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves G1438 victuals.
Is this saying that the entire multitude had to go as one group in unison, and the whole group all go to all the villages together? That seems unlikely. If they were talking about one going to one village and another going to another village, that would fit the description just as well. Of course, Jesus did not accept this plan and performed a miracle.

Mat 19:12
For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves G1438 eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
Do all of these people have to make themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven all simultaneously at the same time as a collective act? It seems unlikely that this is what the word means in this context, either.

Mat 21:25
The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, G1438 saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?
Does it make sense that each one of them all said these words collectively at the same time, or did they have a normal human conversation where they took turns?

We have derail threads here and there. But sometimes a thread needs derailing in situ. This was one such.

Besides, as posthuman noted, the last page was page 50, the jubilee page. =^.^=

Goatees in church.......should we have them? The bible doesn't tell us that we can. I like mine but it just feels so wrong to have it.

Never get past the smell test.

If the whistlers and the tooters get together in the same church we would have a orchestra?

I love church beans!

The churches are full of goats. Goats in tees does sound a bit too casual for most however.

what about corduroy pants in church buildings?

it's hard not to make a noise while wearing those. would that be an abomination?

Depends on how many church beans you have consumed.

You can wear them but it is a sin to run in them unless you are running within 20' of a fire extinguisher.

ok, and i'm assuming you get this as a law simply because it's not found written anywhere in the Bible.

seems legit. thanks!

If it's not a collective action then it is not being reflexive/reciprocated. One person (or group) cannot sing while the rest sit and listen and have the singing be reflexive and reciprocated. So heautas as used in the context of Eph 5:19 is collective singing.

A reflexive pronoun is used with another noun/pronoun when something does something to itself.

John hit himself - reflexive for John did something to John

John hit Mary - not reflexive

So how can one be singing to himself if he is not singing at all during the time frame the song is taking place? Since this reflexive pronoun applies to each person within the congregation, then each person must be singing to him/herself and the result is congregational singing within the time frame of the song being sung. If one person(s) is not singing, then he is not singing to himself (reflexive) nor is the action of singing being reciprocating back to others....both must be taking place. As the way heautas is used in the context of Eph 5:19 makes it impossible to have solos or choirs.

I have laughed so much because of the recent posts in this thread. I have also been forced, FORCED mind you, to like some posts. I don't usually bother with likes unless it's really good. But some of the wit here is really good.

SeaBass, have fun scrimshawing. There is no profit in it but you seem dead set on arguing, so knock yourself out. We'll just work around you.

I think of guitar "chords" in colors. Like an E Major has always seemed red to me and when I play an A i see blue. Kinda weird I know. Additionally, D has always had a green hue to it.

The NT Christian has been commanded to sing. Simply one either respects that command of God and sings or does not respect it and does as he pleases ignoring that command.

But by golly you better not sing with an instrument accompanying you. That is just an abomination before the Lord.

Ill bet your the guy who sings really annoyingly loud and out of tune. I'm not judging you....I like your enthusiasm....just don;t be offended if I plug my ears.....k?

I just spoke in a parable I think....how cool is that!?!?!? I did't even do it on purpose!
