This, of course would depend upon God's Will...
David playing for his own purpose or will would have no effect, 'it is the Faith of Christ that removes demons'...
either forever or temporarily ...
Ok,Ok, so it's not the music ;)

oh for pity's sake

the BIBLE says he sang to the Lord

what part of that do you have a problem with?

I honestly cannot believe the weird desire in this thread to continue to question what the Bible says and dither around about whether or not David sang

I mean GOOD GRIEF Charlie Brown!!!

something fishy

Today's music ain't warding off nothing. It's weak as a sick cat and sounds like one too.
well if you mean the whole Christian genre I can understand that

that's what you get when you emulate the world

however, there are still Christians who actually do sing influenced by the Holy Spirit and not the spirit of the world

you prob know that

what church do you talk about? no instrumentation? all churches ive been to have instruments and why would instruments be forbidden if bible mentions specific instruments like in case of david and saul there?
Not me! I love instruments. I think I got the name wrong, it is the Church of Christ.

"For example, the Christian Church uses musical instruments in worship (known as the Christian Church), whereas the Churches of Christ believe a cappella singing to be proper, although some Church of Christ congregations do use instruments."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churches_of_Christ

We had several former Church of Christ members in a small Baptist church I was in. They didn't believe in it, anymore, but it was still dear to their hearts. If you ever listen to a video of them singing a capella, they are usually off pitch, without instruments to hold them together.

Yes, sadly those are not as common as should be.

I really like in Christ Alone...I grew up on all those hymns

but I also really like many choruses

I could say alot, but you know I actually regret some of what I have said in this thread already

cause knowing the spirit behind music should be evident

I think you are missing the point. Of course David sang. But the question has to do with whether David sang when he played for Saul when he was afflicted by a spirit.

I Samuel 1:16
23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

It is possible that he did, but here we only know that he played the harp in this context.

But I would imagine that there might be some individuals from the 'Restoration Movement' whose churches go by the title 'Church of Christ' who would have to conclude that there was no singing involved since the passage does not mention it. :)

I've read a dig or two on contemporary Christian music. I'm sure there are some examples of weak and sickly music that someone could post here. But I have heard plenty of good modern choruses with the singing electric guitars and the drums going as a music groups sing that sing about the cross of Christ, the resurrection of Jesus, and passages from the Psalms. Why should we consider lyrics taken right out of scripture to be inferior to some of the poetry of some of the old hymns, which are also quite good?

We should also keep in mind that there are some hymns that were lacking in solid theological content. There were anti-missionary hymns, for example. A lot of the poorer ones got weeded out over time. Modern music doesn't have that advantage, but that does not mean it is all bad.

Aren't the Lyrics of modern songs like 'Forever' or Revelation Song good? Even 'Oh How He Loves Us' except maybe that sloppy wet kiss line, express a good truth to ruminate on.

I also like these hymns sung to the sound of the guitar by this lady with the head covering.

David played the lyre to sooth Saul and one could surmise that he would sing songs similar to the Psalms or a Psalm itself.....Music is set to 4 beats per measure, the same as the human heart and has the ability to move the soul. It is in essence very spiritual and many people have understood this throughout history.....I forget the name of the Chinese emperor that stated clearly that if you want to change a society, do it through music. I play guitar and have noticed how the music being played has an ability to lift the soul, make sad, happy, more aggressive etc......It is a proven fact that classical music next to a potted plant will cause the plant to thrive, whereas heavy metal will stunt the plant's growth and possibly even kill it......Just some observations
Great post! I absolutely THRIVE with praise & worship music and really enjoy instrumental music with no words.......

Music makes it sooooo easy to commune with God, it’s like a secret backstage pass...up close and personal without much struggle to get past the flesh.

Music makes the soul like an eagle and soars to heights where God dwells and fellowships with us....places the flesh cannot go.

Music is powerful. King David knew the power of music.(y)

its still satanic i dont care for christian metal its all trash. dont caree if they put christian lyrics in it. still trash. the origins of it are pure rebellion and evil. you got no discernment if u think st.paul would be at a christian metal concert lolz

if i want metal i rather listen to the real metal, not corny christian dorks acting cool doing metal, thats just cringy to me. thats like ozzy osbourne trying to sing a gospel song in church just doesnt fit. its just my offensive opinion. i know most today will not like it. thats ok with me. i will leave this here wont get into pointles debate
That's fine. I couldn't tolerate any more of your illiterate ramblings or your indefensible position.

Bro, you have to understand that stupid is what stupid does. People who believe that any particular item is inherently evil fail to recognize that God is the sovereign of the Universe and that all belong to him; it is sin that twists his things against him.
So I wanted to share with you an old song that I like.

that is not even a question and the point seems to be to carry conjecture over into truth...in other words debate over what is not said and make doctrine out of silly things to be applied at some point when scripture will be compromised

people who are actually asking some of the questions obviously do NOT know what scripture states

at one point, the question was did David sing at all

I could care less than less than less what people who refuse to see what is stated in scripture think, say or do

that goes for cessationists too of which there are a fair representation in this very thread

Then please show in Scripture where it says David sang words to Saul while he played his lyre for Saul.
It is a crucial point of the OP.
