1 Samuel 16:14-23 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)
An Evil Spirit Bothers Saul
14 The Lord’s Spirit left Saul. Then the Lord sent an evil spirit to Saul that caused him much trouble. 15 Saul’s servants said to him, “An evil spirit from God is bothering you. 16 Give us the command and we will look for someone who can play the harp. If the evil spirit from God comes on you, this person will play music for you. Then you will feel better.”

17 So Saul said to his servants, “Find someone who plays music well and bring him to me.”

18 One of the servants said, “There is a man named Jesse living in Bethlehem. I saw Jesse’s son. He knows how to play the harp. He is also a brave man and fights well. He is smart and handsome, and the Lord is with him.”

19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse. They told Jesse, “You have a son named David. He takes care of your sheep. Send him to me.”

20 So Jesse got some things as a gift for Saul. Jesse got a donkey, some bread and a leather bag full of wine, and a young goat. He gave them to David and sent him to Saul. 21 So David went to Saul and stood in front of him. Saul loved David very much. David became the helper who carried Saul’s weapons. 22 Saul sent a message to Jesse. “Let David stay and serve me. I like him very much.”

23 Any time the evil spirit from God came on Saul, David would take his harp and play it. The evil spirit would leave Saul and he would begin to feel better.

From the context, I see two possibilities: 1) David is praising God with music, 2) Saul is depressed and David's music lifts his spirit.

While not directly related to the OP about warding, it does broaden the discussion to another interesting moment regarding music...

2nd Kings 3:15 seemed to be a call unto the Lord through music.

This passage is regarding advice/provision sought from the Lord via Elisha concerning the war of the kings of Judah, Israel, and Edom against Moab.

15 But now bring me a minstrel." And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him. KJV

Vs 16 should tilt the scale back the other direction...

1 Samuel 16:15-16 KJV
[15] And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee. [16] Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

yes, you're right, it does 'gently' push it in the 'other direction' = maybe Jesus will reveal this to one of us,
so that we can be 100% sure/right on this most 'monumental POINT of Scripture!!!:):)

in my first faux 'marriage', only one, next one from Yeshua...
I bought a very beautiful plant that could be grown indoors, and in the beginning it did just that,
it actually grew way beyond what a normal one would, and in my bed-room to boot, we had a real connection, and I would often rub
milk over its leaves, it thrived beyond what most could believe, even without the sun -
after my carnal-marriage started to show it's roots, my beloved plant began to die, one leaf at a time, right along side of me -
I grieved over this but could not think of a way to stop it, as I was so self-centered/bondaged and trying to find a way to survive -
it died, and so did I, to the world; THEN Yeshua stepped-into my life and extended His hand to me, and thankfully,
I took a-hold of it and He 'called me out - i'll stop here for now...
Did you consider that your faux 'wife' may have poisoned your plant? Or at least your milk?

[23] And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

Usually you hear that evil spirits use music for their nefarious ways.
What gives?
Could this be in reference to a specific frequency of the musical instrument? From my understanding, musical instruments would have to be tuned into a specific frequency.

One should really read up on the 440hz music frequency we have today that appears to be a global standard. It is a interesting read, as there is much debate that this particular frequency is not good.

It does then make one thing about music today in general. For lack of a better expression, is the music today tuned to a frequency that promotes harmony or disharmony??

I would not think one frequency any more harmonious/inharmonious than another as God made all things good. But maybe like poisonous mushrooms inharmonious frequencies are a product of the Fall.
I always thought sound frequencies are so mathematically perfect that if one frequency is disharmonious, it would affect the rest of the range.
I suppose some of the 'frequency' theories are simply conjecture if not a hoax...

you have a cunning mind - and it was my 'faux husband', a bona-fide-servant of satan...
but yes, that could have been a possibility, for he was very powerful, but every creation of God's is susceptible to evil,
unless He chooses to intervene...
