Just to add:

I say late 60s early 70s because that message lasted into the early 80s and being a part of the actual Bible Belt of America meant something, and The Holy Spirit was evident in powerful ways.

First of all, I'm not sure that they study Shakespeare in high school any more. Secondly, MOST students will have no clue what MANY of the phrases and terms mean in the KJV, even if they studied Shakespeare. Too many of the phrases and wordings have no meaning to us today. What about people that DON'T get to study Shakespeare in high school? They are simply out of luck when it comes to Bible study?

The devolution of language skills both receptive and expressive is a side issue which may be connected but not really my point.

Comprehension of written text is relative and varies, it is not solely a function of the words in print but also of the reader.

That was one point, the other....

Reading Latin is not Reading English even if the English is archaic.

I personally disagree that they are significant, but here we are.

I would argue that MOST of the differences you see are of zero consequence in the original meaning and intent of scripture.

And, yes, if there is a slight difference in wording from translation to translation, I absolutely believe the Spirit will guide the reader to the truth, no matter which version has it. (likely BOTH versions have it)

Agree and valid response, Latin and English are two different languages.
Soon, someone will come out with an emogi bible, hashtag bible, and internet slang and claim they are the word of God for the modern speaker. We need to update the language from the archaic English we spoke in the 80's before computers and cell phones...:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Sorry.... I didn't realize you were comparing Latin to KJV english.
Of course Latin would be more difficult, but I imagine to many, many people, some of the phrases and words in KJV sound exactly as understandable as Latin.

Such a good point a lot of truth... I see it everyday.

Total side issue, but I was recently reading Fahrenheit 451 and some of the sentiments expressed on this thread remind of the some of the dialogue in that book.

I did not make the comparison initially someone else on the thread did, I just do not think it is a valid analogy.

The "many, many" is growing exponentially thanks to our education system, so is it the KJV or the illiterate masses?

This is why I recommend Bible study in parallel with the use of Bible Hub. It's really helpful to see where the differences are. As can be seen in a lot of the translations, Elhanan killed a brother of Goliath, not Goliath himself.

Another downside is that the brother isn't even given a personal identity. He is just the brother of Goliath. We don't even get to know his name! "Oh, I know you! You're Goliath the Gittite's brother! And your name is um.... uh... <snapping fingers>..."

In this case the ESV and NASB are wrong. We know this from 1 Chronicles 20:5 which says in the KJV: "And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver's beam." Even the ESV and NASB of 1 Chronicles 20:5 say "brother," so there's no excuse for this bonehead mistake. Still doesn't make the KJV God's infallible word in English.

There IS the Holy Spirit. You're suppose to get counsel from Him on everything. Don't you??? Or do you trust your KJV alone? That's idolatry in that case and KJV isn't always accurate.
