People do not like to say they are a "slave to sin" but that is exactly what they mean. For many here have said it is impossible to stop sinning. Hence, the title of the thread. No one is good. Meaning, you will never be able to be completely "good" ever. Yes, we cannot be "good" of our own power and abilities. It is the goodness of God that works in us. Not our own goodness. But many who believe in a sin and still be saved doctrine hold to the view that they will forever sin the rest of their lives on come capacity.

this is comical. Do you even know what a slave is? A slave is in a position he can not get himself out of. He is bound by the rules as given by the slavemaster, and must do those things.

Those who are slaves to their flesh are bound by those laws, they have to do them.

Those who have been saved, are no longer slaves, no longer on the ocean tossed to and fro, not knowing which way to go, But it does not mean they do not sin, or look to self from time to time.

Saying one is not perfect is not claiming we are slaves. that is ridiculous. do you ever listen to yourself?

Are you blind as well....Sin reigning means to give in wholly to it and allow it to dictate your life......For someone to occasionally fail, fall and SIN is NOT allowing sin to reign in your mortal body...wake up to the truth and my post above stands....your theology of dismissing one verse in favor of select verses leads you down the same path of falsehoods just like your buddy.
All false gospels involve exploiting isolated verses or often even just words, at the expense of the truth of the whole gospel. They throw out whole chunks of Bible truth. It's fundamental to theological deception.

So the bolded above overrides 1st John 1 and what it states about SIN.......this view is the reason there is so much dissention and rejection of truth by people who are blind and ignorant of truth........

John said clearly...IF WE say that we have NO SIN, WE are DECEIVED AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN US!

Pay attention to the word WE and I am sorry, but your bolded above in your quote is misleading, contrary to the truth and not correct. EVERY WORD is inspired and to be taken in the whole...there is NO SUCH THING AS ONE COMMON TRUTH that OVERIDES other verses as you have indicated concerning SIN!
Nice try, but, regrettably, neon letters wouldn't work for what is a spiritual disease,

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

I have a suggestion, folks. Just express that you're now filled with doubt and convinced Jesus Christ isn't enough, how you feel an unborn again experience coming on, for not thinking kindly of Hillary Clinton or something, say you need to shop now for a rabbit's foot, or search on "God is an Indian giver" in scripture. He probably won't serially post spaghetti exegesis from hell, to himself, for long. Would spare some server storage waste for ChristianChat, also.

Our interaction with Jason feels like a spiritual dog pile. I'm amazed he's still breathing under all this weight. Somebody give him a cookie for his what's gotta be a world record for stubbornness. He must be German. Lol

Sanctification is not a process. The Greek verb "to sanctify" does not mean to purge and purify over a period of time. The word "hagiazo" simply means to set apart or to make separate for God. The moment a person is saved, they are sanctified, set apart for God, and that sanctification is Jesus Christ, just as righteous required of God is Jesus Christ. Sanctification is a Person, but no wonder you turn this also into something about your own efforts, as you turn entire threads into conversations about yourself.

1 Corinthians 1:30-31 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: that, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

As usual, you don't really understand the Bible, but nobody can tell you differently.
No, the Bible clearly teaches Sanctification involves abstaining from sin and in answering the call unto holiness.

"For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness." (1 Thessalonians 4:3-7).

Here is what it says in the NIV.

It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 NIV)

And here is what it says in the ESV.

For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 ESV)

This Sanctification process can be seen using other words here,

"Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." (2 Corinthians 7:1)

For do you not know that we are sanctified by God's Word.

Sanctify them with your truth, for thy Word is truth (John 17:17).

Jesus Christ sanctifies the church with the washing of the water of the Word (See Ephesians 5:25-26).

Nice try, but, regrettably, neon letters wouldn't work for what is a spiritual disease,

1 John 1:8 is in context to 1 John 1:9 and 1 John 1:6-7.

1 John 1:6 says if we say we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness we lie and do not the truth. This is repeated in more clearer words in the next chapter where John says if we say know him and do not keep his commandments we are a liar (See 1 John 2:4).

1 John 1:7 says if we walk in the light as he is in the light, then the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. It is not.... if we walk in darkness or sin.... then the blood cleanses us. No, no. The passage does not say that.

Anyways, when we read 1 John 1:8, based on the context of the epistle we understand that verse 8 is a warning written to believers about those false believers trying to deceive them that they have no sin on a spiritual level. In other words, these false believers that John was warning the brethren about believed in an extreme form of Antinomianism (Where sin did not exist to them on any level). This is sort of similar belief that is being pushed by many in false churches today. For they say they have no sin debt because Jesus paid the price for all their sins (Past, present, and future). So they are forgiven on a spiritual level eternally. They have no sin spiritually. But what is tricky and deceptive about what they believe is that they will admit that they sin physically. But we know that the sin here is speaking spiritually. For the epistle does not ever clarify that the sins being forgiven here are physical in nature only. In fact, we know that John is speaking spiritually of life and death thru out his entire epistle. He says he that does not love does not know God. He says that whosoever hates his brother is a murderer and we know no murderer has eternal life abiding within them.

The true believer will not say they have no sin spiritually like the Antinomian today. They will confess their sin so as to be forgiven of their sin as 1 John 1:9 says. But the Antinomian today denies what 1 John 1:9 says, though. It is the one verse (among many) that they ignore.

The bible also states....

Hebrews 10:9-14King James Version (KJV)[SUP]9 [/SUP]Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
[SUP]12 [/SUP]But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
[SUP]13 [/SUP]From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

No where is the word (being) found tied to sanctified.....you still fail to understand that our spiritual destiny has been set in the granite of the faith of the Son of God and is eternally saved, sealed, justified and sanctified POSITIONALLY.......

It has nothing to do with our eternal state which has been sealed in Christ...what needs to follow is OUR FLESHLY EXISTENCE which has UPS and DOWNS, successes and failures and is a day in, day out PROCESS.......WAKE UP!

lol. Nice try.

1 John 1:9 does not negate 1 John 1:8. 1 john 1:9 is the response to 1 John 1:8, it is what we who realize we are not sinless do.

no one ignores 1 John 1:9. we cherish it, it is what grace is all about. not hiding our sin (as people like you do) but openly confessing our sin, to each other, and to God. for when we openly confess, we are cleansed. It is when we hide it, and try to ignore it that we are tainted.

Thats why legalism is so dangerous, and why people like you are an enemy and detriment to the gospel of God.

In other words, 1 John 1:8 is in context to 1 John 1:9. A true believer confesses their sin if they do sin so as to be forgiven of sin. But nowhere does John ever say we are to continue in sin. For he says in the next chapter to "sin not." (See 1 John 2:1).

No, as I just stated in my previous post. John tells the brethren to "sin not." It would not make any sense to tell you to "sin not" if he believed it was not possible to "sin not." That would be like me telling a clepto maniac to stop stealing or a man addicted to murdering to stop murdering. It would not make any sense for me to tell these people who are addicted to their sin to "sin not" (When I know they cannot stop). Only Jesus Christ can change lives and help them to stop from sinning. Only true believers can "sin not" because they have Jesus working within them.

He doesn't even know what sanctification is. He doesn't really understand even basic truths in scripture. At this late date, it's just trolling.

So are you a true believer?

You said you are NOT PERFECT YET which means you still sin.......so, since you still sin does that mean you are still lost and on your way to the hell you also don't believe in?

Even Jesus told the woman caught in the act of adultery to "sin no more." If Jesus knew that the woman could not "sin no more" and yet he told her to do so anyways, it would be as if he would be playing a cruel joke or prank on her. So no. Jesus meant what he said. Jesus wants all believers to "sin no more."

lol. Keep thinking that. Your thinking from a closed minded perspective. anyone can read through it.

John told them to not sin, But do not think they ever achieved sinless perfection. (be proud of yourself) for if we say we have no sin we decieve ourselves and their is no truth in us.

But if we do sin, do not be ashamed, or take yourself out. take it to God. he will forgive you.

Thats grace.

You do not teach grace my friend, you teach far from it, Just like you do not understand sanctification (set apart) and how GOD SET US APART). You do not understand grace

What about an alcoholic that goes off and on the bottle for a main portion of his life, even after coming to Jesus? Does He just wash His hands of the alcoholic, even after the day he finally becomes permanently sober?
