"The heresy of Gnosticism is also of notable importance with regard to the historical context surrounding the Johannine Comma. This "unethical intellectualism" had begun to make inroads among churches in John's day; its influence would continue to grow up until the second century when it gave pure Christianity a giant struggle.[7] Generally speaking, Gnosticism can be described as a variety of syncretic religious movements in the early period of church history that sought to answer the question, "What must I do to be saved?"
The Gnostic answer was that a person must possess a secret knowledge.[8] One of the major tenets of Gnosticism was the essential evil of matter; the physical body, in other words, was viewed as evil. According to this line of thought, Jesus Christ could not have been fully God and fully man, for this would have required him to posses an evil physical body.
The seeds of the Gnostic heresy seem to be before John's mind in his first epistle; nine times he gives tests for knowing truth in conjunction with the verb ginwskw (to know).[9] This being said, the Johannine Comma would have constituted an integral component of the case the Apostle made against the false teachings of the Gnostics, especially with regard to the nature of Christ. Robertson notes that John's Gospel was written to prove the deity of Christ, assuming his humanity, while I John was written to prove the humanity of Christ, assuming his deity.[10]
He goes on to say, "Certainly both ideas appear in both books."[11] If these notions are true, then the Comma is important to John's polemic. Jesus Christ, the human Son of God, is the eternal, living Word (cf. John 1:1).The Word, along with the Father and the Holy Spirit, bears witness to "he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ" (I John 5:6).This assertion would have flown right into the face of Gnosticism.
On the flip side of the coin, the Gnostics would have completely disregarded the truth promulgated in the Johannine Comma. In fact, they may have excised it from the text in the same way that Marcion took a butcher knife to the New Testament in the second century. Also, the Arian heresy, which taught that Jesus was not God but a created being, grew out of Gnosticism. In fact, it was widespread in the Church during the third and fourth centuries. Not long after the Council of Nicea (A.D. 325), an ecumenical council that denounced Arianism, "the whole world woke from a deep slumber and discovered that it had become Arian."[12] Perhaps the prevalent influences of these heresies were responsible for the text falling out of many manuscripts and versions of the New Testament. This hypothesis is at least as plausible as competing theories which suppose that someone added the verses to combat heretical teaching."

To each their own, I have studied this out and my findings are sufficent that I believe it was not inspired but rather aded in the margin and later copied in by a scribe.

Why don't you EDUCATE YOURSELF, and read ALL the text at the link I provided, and consider the EVIDENCE at hand, ESPECIALLY John's writing style?

So what does this part of the passage mean?

"Get away from Me, you who practice iniquity."
It has been explained to you 50 different ways to Sunday...how is it that you cannot grasp a simple concept that equates to milk...one who is not saved by faith is bound under sin and all they do is found as lawless because they have not trusted into Christ biblically......

It is obvious that you fail to understand the point that was being made. After a person becomes a Christian they will be driven to do good things. But there is the conflict that Paul writes about in them.

Romans 7 New International Version (NIV)

Released From the Law, Bound to Christ
1 Do you not know, brothers and sisters—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law has authority over someone only as long as that person lives? 2 For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him. 3 So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man.

4 So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. 5 For when we were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death. 6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

The Law and Sin
7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8 But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead. 9 Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. 10 I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death. 11 For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death. 12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.

13 Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good to bring about my death, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.

14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
Driven to do hey......yeah right! Ummmm...scriptures contradict this DRIVEN TO DO attitude......

Only those who have the life to prove it have done that.

We'll come back to this later today. If you're trusting that your disobedience is okay because of these people you're in for a big shock when Jesus comes back. We'll look at each one and compare them to the life in Christ you defend.

You seem to be the one that is dense, not me, because this is not about being saved on the merit of works, but you keep bringing that up. It's about having works that show you trust in Jesus alone for the forgiveness of sin.

If you do not have the works that accompany salvation you will in the end be burned, not saved. Your life showing that you are not saved. Disobedience is the sign of the unbeliever, not the believer. You will not be saved when Jesus comes back if you have had no change and are still enslaved to sin. Slaves do not get the inheritance. Sons do. Still living your old life shows you are still a slave, not a son.

If you think working in the ministry, giving to the church, attending all services, being a deacon, being a greeter, praying, listening to sermons, witnessing, praising his Name will somehow make up for not obeying God in a changed life you will be lost when Jesus returns. That description is the modern Pharisee, not the people who are born again and have new lives of kindness, gentleness, and self control and don't violate the law as a result of that change of life. The modern Pharisee trusts in his service and is not obedient and will be rejected when Jesus comes back. The one who is NOT lawless because he is born again is the one Jesus is coming back for.
No need Fran......we have already beat this horse and you have proven your inability to accept any truth not hammered out on your anvil of works...and again the bible proves your erroneous ideals.....

You are not comprehending it at all.

Those people will not go to hell because they are lawless, or because they are barren of fruit or because they have no love for jesus.

They will go to hell because they did not believe. If they had faith, God would have changed them.

Again, He who believes is not condemned, he who does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed, NOT because of the things you said.

WHen your blind and “puffed-up” with obedience. You cannot see where obedience comes from. Thus instead of focusing on the root (christ) you focus on the obedience, While neglecting to see how no matter how obedient they think they are. In Gods standard. They fall so very short.

without knowing the truth

God

please God help those here who have stumbled as I have or are still in error see what it is you want them to see

may everyone who can hear your gracious voice answer your call and cling to the righteousness of Jesus Christ our savior
and also be a useful member to the body by doing your will and not our own Father

please keep my brothers and sisters here from acting according to the flesh in order to not be accused or unfruitful in their efforts, so those in error have no excuses to not see your Holy spirit that is in them

Typo's creep in all the time because mankind is incapable of perfection. But on this forum, one CANNOT correct such typo's after five minutes (300 seconds)! What reason on earth could there be, to lock in ERRORS on this website, for permanent display, for every visitor to see?

Matthew 7:21-23 “NOT EVERYONE who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, BUT ONLY HE WHO DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you EVILDOERS!’

Luke 6:46-49 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and DO NOT DO WHAT I SAY? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and PUTS THEM INTO PRACTICE. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its DESTRUCTION was complete.”

Matthew 25:21,24-30 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ “Then the man who had received the one talent came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ “His master replied, ‘You WICKED, LAZYSERVANT! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. “‘Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. And throw that WORTHLESS SERVANT outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 25:41-46 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, WHATEVER YOU DID NOT DO for one of the least of these, YOU DID NOT DO FOR ME.’ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
