God spoke words to humans. humans wrote them down. they words have meanings. we need to recognize what these words means.

you refuse to do this. until you do, all your claims about following Jesus, walking as he walked , are hollow and empty.
It is impossible to engage a dishonest person with the word of God when they refuse the actual words and verbiage inspired by God while substituting humanistic reasoning and that which is contrary to the truth....!!

Look in the mirror...

Yet these men speak abusively against whatever they do not understand; and what things they do understand by instinct, like unreasoning animals—these are the very things that destroy them. Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion. These men are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted—twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” These men are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage. A Call to Persevere But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. Jude 1:10-19

AS THE BODY WITHOUT THE SPIRIT IS DEAD, so faith without deeds is dead. James 2:26

1 cor 3

12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Remember, a reward is not a gift.

I know this maybe out of topic, but in the Bible (i think somewhere in Romans...correct me if I'm wrong.... ) it says we'll be judged according to our works. But, we're not saved by works/deeds, right? Why are we then judged according to our works?

Just want to see some different answers on this because it does confuse me.
Thank you for helping "little one" out :sneaky::giggle:

That does not give you the right to change someone's post, Peter. You changed it because you don't want people to know you were banned and snuck back in under a new name. Simple as that.
Both he, Seoche and a few others are very very deceptive....

24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.
Matt 7:24-27

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Matt 5:6

Our hearts beat with the Holy Spirit and with the Fathers will.

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:2

Those who are Jesus's sheep listen to Him, and His words are a light to their path.
Thank you Jesus that you give us this light in a dark world where there are many dangers.

There are many who know the Lord and delight in His ways, and others who oppose such
people of the light. Learn to see who listens and who rebels, Amen.

Hi gb9,

I am not changing the subject, you raised it, how to define sin.
I thought a bit deeper and came up with two different views on sin expressed in the Torah.

I also am happy to pursue ideas, but you caused me to see some of what you are saying is Greek
philosophy, which I know goes into absolutes of good and evil, which are not christian in essence.

So I am now asking you to contribute your foundations in scripture of what sin is, as you are saying I am wrong.

Let me take a problem with generic definitions. If God commands me to do something, from the throne,
I am in sin if I do not follow it, like Jonah was, who almost paid with his life for disobeying, yet God used this
as a sign to Nineveh of His intentions.

Paul suggests sin is doing things you know in faith you should not do.
John suggests the good you know you should do, yet refuse is also sin.

These views were to convict those who walk righteously to be careful they do not push things
too far. The argument is being used here as if these very statements deny walking righteously
is possible in the Spirit. It is clear if you listen to scripture, it is assumed Gods people walk
righteously, as holy, pure people seeking good and not evil.

If one wants one can turn things so obedient walking is impossible, but that is not my heart,
or my experience. The real problem is service and appropriate responses, like on this forum and
when those who appear sheep are something else and only intend destruction and upset not
growth and love.
I am not speaking against obedience. we are all to obey.

but, we have to be truthful about when we stumble. in order to do so, we have to recognize the meanings of words , so that we know honestly if we are obeying or not.

what I am saying is this- put yourself under authority of the Bible, and the words it is written with, and the meanings of these words, not just ignore them when you do not like them.

3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
Romans 12:3

9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
Romans 12:9-11

I can only discern the spirit through the spirit and not through the OSAS lens which CLAIMS to have a FAITH ALONE that ONCE and ALWAYS save them even if they would lie to the HOLY SPIRIT.

YES, i was JUSTIFIED through FAITH(a LIVING Faith not DEAD) and I have a LIVING Hope that God will SAVE me from His coming WRATH which would come on those who are DISOBEDIENT.(Ephesians 5:6)

I do not disregard God's AUTHORITY on my SALVATION. If i do not REMAIN IN HIM, He will not REMAIN in me. If I turn away from Him and ABANDON the FAITH to follow DECEIVING spirits and things taught by demons such as DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD and lieing to the HOLY SPIRIT which caused the DEATH of man (ADAM and EVE, ANANIAS and SAPPHIRA are good examples)

A Christian who BELONGS in the body of Christ should be LIVING in LOVE and WALKING as Jesus did, and this is LOVE; "THAT WE WALK IN OBEDIENCE TO HIS COMMANDS." They should not RUN AHEAD(2 John 1:7-13) but instead, just as Paul said...

...Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained. Philippians 3:12-16 Pressing on Toward the Goal

It is the BODY OF CHRIST which was SANCTIFIED, PERFECTED, GLORIFIED, which will not perish, will not decay, see death or die, incorruptible, will not be condemned and WILL BE SAVED by Jesus Christ when He comes. It will be presented to Him as a PURE VIRGIN.

...I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:2-3

...It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8

... The Son of Man will send out his angels, and THEY WILL WEED OUT OF HIS KINGDOM EVERYTHING THAT CAUSES SIN AND ALL WHO DO EVIL. They will THROW THEM INTO THE FIERY FURNACE, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. Matthew 13:41-43

...But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” Revelation 21:8

...See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? Hebrews 12:25

Argueless, are you, at this very moment, saved?

Yes or no.

You know....it is biblical to what one peddles when it comes to fraudulent gospels.....Faith plus anything to gain, keep or maintain a losable salvation is not, I REPEAT...Is not a biblical gospel that has power to save......the MANY that get cast peddle the same thing that ALL WORKERS FOR, SALVATION LOSERS, PHARISEES AND CAINOLOGISTS PEDDLE.......Galatians is clear....faith plus = gospel of a different kind than that which Paul preached, is double cursed, has no power, corrupts the true gospel and thise that believe it are fools and bewitched according to the bible......this is the truth!!

how can you repent of something when you do not recognize the definition of the thing that you are repenting of?
I know what I am convicted of by God and His word and the Holy Spirit.
Are you suggesting you have something else?

I asked you for verses that supported your notion, yet you seem to have none.
I cannot do something God has not asked of me or you.

The thief on the cross, the people preached to by Peter all responded simply to
the conviction the Lord layed on them.

If you mean something else I am all ears.....

Many flat reject the truth that the HOLY SPIRIT convicts the world of sin because they BELIEVE NOT ON CHRIST.....SIN HAS BEEN DEALT WITH AT THE CROSS....it is not the ISSUE...FAITH is the issue.......and for a believer...GRACE OUTBOUNDS our sin.....and is a matter of FELLOWSHIP not SONSHIP....!!!

Amen! decon, Able had "Godly wisdom," Cain had "worldly wisdom;" Able's wisdom from above was able to save; Cain's wisdom was of the earth and not able to save.

Able heard God's word's and by grace and mercy of God saved Able. Cain continued on with his "wisdom of the world and his punishment from God for the murder of Able was two fold; 1). Cain's farming would "no longer produce food" from the ground; 2). and he would be, "a restless wanderer upon the earth." Able's reward was eternal salvation by the grace and mercy of God, fellowship restored.

A simple but true gospel; God saved Able by the grace and mercy of God and God provided the animal sacrifice "No Merit"
"Saved by grace, Not By Works."

Genesis 4:12
When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth."

9 "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
11 I have made a fool of myself, but you drove me to it. I ought to have been commended by you, for I am not in the least inferior to the "super-apostles," even though I am nothing.
2 Corinthians 12:9-11

Amen

no, you are not all ears.

I have already told you today- it is NOT about the verses. it is about the WORDS in the verses, and their meanings, a lot of which you deny.

you cannot properly identify sin while at the same time ignoring the definition of sin.

keep moving the goalpost all you want, keep calling the language the N.T. was written in a " philosophy ", keep saying that Paul and James's words are suggestions, what very little credibility you have is going down the drain.
