When the disciples told Jesus they were in possession of one sword, He said that is sufficient.

Do we give a platoon of soldiers one carbine against an army? I think not, that would be absurd.

Yet Jesus does teach he who picks up the sword shal die by the sword.

It is reasonable that He refers to that sword that ismentioned in Revelation, that proceeds from His Mouth.

We have that same tongue when we pass on His teaching, the Gospel of salvation free with no other strings on it than to believe Jesus Christs

I believe I have always known this but never articulated it until I began to hear certain peple defending killing and war in the name of Jesus. These people are guising their thirst for blood as faith in Jesus and understaqnding of His teaching.

I do not know about your Savior and God, but my Savior and God does not require me to phycially defend Him, He protects me, always has and always will.. God does not side with men in war.........please, do not bring up those stories from the OT that are there strictly as en samples...........learn the Gospel only.

God is good all of the time, do not confuse Him with Herod or Caesar,, or worse with an anti-Christ.

On the subject.......

Joh 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

This mention of a sword comes just prior to Jesus and the Disciples making their way to Gethsemane. A comparison to the events
in Gethsemane to those in Eden are well worth exploring.

We are still fighting battles for the Kingdom and keeping Jesus from being delivered over to the enmy in that we continue the Truth, which He is.

The entire Bible is a companion event.

doesn't the text actually say two swords?

Luke 22:38
And they said, Lord, behold, here [are] two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

Yes, it does, thanks. I always remember it as one........I will try to keep that one numbered correctly in the future.

The swords where for a purpose..So that prophecy would be fulfilled.. Lets read the verses.. I will bold the prophecy the swords where needed to fulfill..

Luke 22 KJV
36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

The Messiah was going to be reckoned to be with transgressors.. When they finally came to arrest Him the sword was used.. That's why Jesus only needed one sword.. It fulfilled prophecy

Isaiah 53 KJV

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Once the sword had completed it's task Jesus made sure to make a clear statement against the use of swords for His followers.. Note again in the following verses Jesus declaring that the incident had to happen for prophecy scriptures of Isaiah 53 to be fulfilled..

Matthew 26 KJV
51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.
52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
