There's no such thing as a sinless Christian. Sin should not characterize a Christian's life, though. Those who claim to be sinless are liars or deceived per I John 1.
1 John 1:8 is in context to 1 John 1:9, 1 John 1:7 and 1 John 2:4. This was spoken as a warning to the brethren against those false believers who thought they had no sin whatsover either physically or spiritually in the sense of when they sin. In other words, this more in line with the Antinomian today who thinks all sin: Past, present, and future sin has been forgiven. In other words they are saying they have no sin spiritually because Jesus paid it all. This the deception John is warning the brethren about.

The receiving of the Very Spirit of God is such a matter and witness to true salvation, that I wonder how some can leave it out of the conversation? Those who know that they know that they have the Spirit of God, know they have eternal salvation and life, those who do not, have to doubt and try to figure out a way they can earn salvation. Its sad that some believe that they have salvation and don't have the Witness of the Holy Spirit, no wonder so many of these legalist are going about to establish their own righteousness and salvation by keeping (parts) of the Law of Moses.
I hope you do not think that I think that this is the way to be saved that I mentioned above, it is just a way to know that we Christians do not walk in the flesh.

Grandpa, thank you for asking me "Are people trying to separate being saved from being born again? How can you?
Or is that what you are saying to try and help out the people who don't believe, to help them see?"

I said "OBAB" to try to help both them, and you, and myself. Since many believers don't seem to be clear on what
salvation is, or is fully. My impression from most "anti-osas" posts is that such a poster doesn't know the Lord yet.
They've never met the person, Jesus Christ. Yet. May they meet Him, now! In this lifetime. My impression from many
"osas" posts is that they met the Christ. Been redeemed and justified by Him. And born anew.

For example, someone above asked: "Does the OSAS proponent sound more like a luke-warm believer or does the believer who seeks to honor God and follow His good ways sound more like a luke-warm believer?" What a twisted, unchristian question! It's "answering" and asking at the same time! The "anti-obab" folks seem to me to focus more on themselves, their capability, and on sin and judgment rather than on Christ. Christ who is both Lamb of God and the law of the Spirit of Life.

I prefer "once born, always born (of God)" to "osas" because there is more to life, more to the eternal life, than birth only.
We who have received the divine life, Jn 1:12-13, in the Son, as the Spirit----that secures our eternal destiny. We'll always
be children of God. But there's a lot more to salvation than rebirth. Although permanent, undoable, eternal, and secure (even from ourselves!), regeneration is just the start. We have to grow and mature in Christ. And for that, to help that even, in God's wisdom and policy, there is reward and punishment. To believers. To children of God. Such as the 10 believers, the 10 virgins in Mt 25. And the servants too there. All believers. There isn't merely Reward.......or no reward. There is reward........or punishment. Though the punishment of course is not eternal. It's still severe. And the word of God uses the words "saved" and "salvation" and also negative words, in regard to that subject, as well as in regard to our salvation into the family of God and about our eternal destiny.

A lukewarm Christian, any "undercomer" in all of the churches in Rv 2--3, unless they overcome, will receive the punishment of their Father at the judgment seat of Christ (and for 1000 years)

Not sure of the point you think your making...the law is the law! The Ten commandments being the very core of the law! This is revealed by clear and evident reading of the scriptures...If you have found away to avoid what is evident and yet seek to justify yourself in some way through dead works? I suggest you repent!

Heb 6:1 ¶ Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God
It doesn’t make any sense to repent so as to do evil. You are going to do works regardless (whether it be bad or good) Jesus said we will know false prophets by their fruit.

Please bare in mind that I know that by our hearts being sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water entails more than just what I listed previously, it is just that this is a post board and I was just showing that the work for our salvation was finished at the cross, now it is just up to us to believe and understand what all the work did for us through the Gospel.

Jesus did not reveal the whole of his plan or tell openly the details of his entire life to everyone. Does that mean Jesus was wrong, too?

It's up to us to live our lives as tho Jesus is living thru us, and shine His light to the best of our ability to a lost and perishing world. .....Or you can be a stuffy automatron lunatic and scare people straight to hell. Kinda like when raising kids....if you beat them over the head enough with inadequacy and fear they grow up to be mature and well grounded adults.

God is long suffering towards us. He is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. God will not condone a believer's evil.

No kidding? Man...thats a new one on me.
First, sarcasm and or being smart back in discussing God's Word is not becoming of the saints. Second, even if you did appear to know the verse, my response answers the problem that you put forth. Which suggests to me you have no idea what I was really saying with the verse.

Your only 15? Your post is "fruit."

You have a lot of doctrine in your soul for 15 years old.

The bema seat of Christ is not going to be a lot of fun for quite a few believers, but they still have the FREE Gift of eternal life in Christ.

How does Matthew 6:15 apply? I mean, why tell someone who is born again and going to forgive people automatically to then hit the over the head and say .... if you do not forgive .... you will not be forgiven? Are you suggesting Matthew 6:15 is written for unbelievers? What good what that do them? The carnal man cannot understand God's Word. Do you know how absolutely silly it sounds to tell people certain spiritual things and then quickly turn around later and say those spiritual things no longer apply anymore? If Matthew 6:15 has changed, then what verse later says that it has changed?

We need to forgive others.

What does the person have to do for you in order for you to forgive them?

What are you talking about? Lemme guess....it's a spiritually discerned thing you got going on. I'm amazed you don't get dizzy spinning in circles like you do.

Sometimes you gotta land the plane Jason....Dock the boat, park the car in the garage, mow the lawn, feed the dog, heat up the oven, fix the roof, unload the groceries, chew your food and most importantly.....have a good number 2.

I was reminded in church of this thread this morning, while we were singing this song. It really says it all. The gospel is about God! Not our sin, our works or anything else. It is about the awesome, and incredible God we serve.
This hymn is based on Psalm 8

"How Great Thou Art"

O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

And when I think of God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And lead me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow with humble adoration,
And then proclaim, "My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
