Good question Ella85, it falls right up there with what is our purpose here and in a way both go hand in hand as a function to each other.
1. To show God we choose him in all things we do over ourselves
2. To show God we choose him in all things before ourselves.

Galations 5:17
For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other,
so that you are not to do whatever you want.

We can think of this like boot camp,
and Earth is our proving grounds, our purging of impurities of the fall of man and our tempering through trials which toughens us for battle so we don't break when first put to use.
If we're gonna be more than just conquerors against a formidable enemy we have not met, spoken with nor seen we must be able to conquer our own flesh first which we have seen.
Otherwise how can one conquer the enemy unless they can first overcome their own fleshly desires.
Not saying it's easy, but just saying.
If it was easy it wouldn't be worth it. So yes it's worth it.
We were first made to be magnificent, our enemy knew our weaknesses in the beginning and he knows them now.
Our enemy has a weakness too though, overcome the flesh and walk in the spirit and he gains no further ground in ones life.
Once one overcomes the earthly body we are first given, ain't no body nor spirit can have control over us except that which we allow.
God likes to see that in it's entirety.
And then see we give him complete control over us surrendering to him as a vessel to the Holy spirit.
We then become a slave to righteousness and no longer a slave to the flesh.
Jesus spent 40 days in the desert...didn't eat or drink.
If any person could endure that resisting all temptation to feed the flesh, they could overcome anything.
Jesus did, and then went on to overcome everything.

3. After we show him that, we are not just transformed by the renewing of the mind but transformed in the twinkling of an eye into a new body with new type of flesh.

1 Cor 15
37
When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.

So I'd like to tie your question into why are we here?
This is our proving grounds...studying to show ourselves approved, and what we will blossom into once this body dies and is transformed into a new.
We have the power and authority to kick the devils butt by not giving into temptation that feeds the flesh.
Because the principal of temptation is still present in heaven to serve the self even in heaven.
But we cannot prove we will resist that in heaven like satan did and got kicked out, because we wouldnt want to be kicked out like he was.
No it is better we do not enter yet until we show God what we will be like in heaven,,,,while here.

I hope God's scriptures here help answer the questions you've asked.
Take care

For His pleasure and to glorify Him. Did you ever paint a picture? Why did you paint it? There you go.

number one two n three

If you believe my first answer is shallow, then your picture you painted must also be but everything we do or paint must be for the glory of God.

So that is the only answer you have?
For His pleasure and to glorify Him?

Let me be more specific here -
What about His reasoning behind the creation of the body

Shallow? What makes you believe this?

yes MW, we concur, deep thought, good question.

when we, my wife and myself, came to our understanding of our Maker,
as far as He has allowed us at this point in our walk,
we are humbled and awed at His heart and mind and the fact that He chose/made
us all, apart from all other species to walk and talk with Him and gave us the ability to
actually know and experience His Spirit Love when we surrender our hearts to Him.
every day we are overwhelmed by His great kindness and forgiving nature, not to
mention the joy it brings when we think about the wonderful Kingdom coming,
that will replace this present, evil world.

Because I didn't answer questions one two and three with scripture like all the other posts require to be content.

Let's put it another way, Read the book of Job and tell me how much higher His thoughts are then our most wise thoughts.

When I was a child, I asked the minister why i am and he said Because God is Love and it pleased Him to make you. Isn't that good enough?

And no doubt His thoughts are higher than ours. Still this does not answer the op, read the questions again.
Talking about the BODY here...the FLESH

Why did He choose to create us in FLESH?

Alright, I did give you my answers. How ever, if you insist, He made us to be ginni pigs to see if it was something He might like to try out for Himself. But we royally screwed up, push came to shove and He had to come down into the flesh Himself to undo us in our messed up state. OK? If the Bible don't tell us straight out then you have to ask Him.:)

No one knows the answer to that, we can only give our opinions and answers based on scripture and I did.

The story of Adam and Eve is not literally true, it was meant to be allegorical, Adam and Eve representing all men and women. God created the physical universe (heaven and earth, i.e. everything that -is-) for a purpose, as part of a big complicated plan of some kind. Of course if that's true, the plan must be so complicated that we would have no chance of understanding it. Like an individual yeast critter being grown to make bread--the individual yeasties have no understanding of what they're doing, they're just floating in dough, eating sugar, burping out CO2. Life is good for them! Until we turn the oven on.

The physical world, and our bodies, were designed to be imperfect, to be temporary. In fact the whole idea of time itself is part of the physical world. God and the angels are in -eternity-, where all times are the same time. We are trapped in time, we have to live every second as it comes, and then go on to the next second. It's just part of life in the physical world.

So the idea is that we each get one life here, and then we go on to The Next Thing (though, understandably, we're a little fuzzy on what that is, exactly). We are like 'prototypes' of angels. We have problems and pains and sorrows that the angels don't have, but OTOH we have great pleasures too. Angels can't enjoy the taste of chocolate melting on their tongue, or being kissed, or riding a motorcycle, or sinking into a hot bath. Somehow a few decades here in the physical world prepares us for life in eternity.

So to ask why are here, I mean why -here-, it's like one kindergartner turning to another and saying 'Why are we -here-?' And the other says 'Well this is just the beginning. Someday you're going to graduate from college and be a famous architect! But first you have to learn your colors.'

How about that God has a body of flesh and bone, we are after all made in his image. Christ took on a new body of flesh and bone, which shows we are supposed to be physical beings both here in this life and the next, not just a spiritual entity.
Genesis 1 - 27
[SUP]27 [/SUP]So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Regarding point 2:

In the garden of Eden were two special trees and two people (as well as a lot of other flora and fauna) and another created entity was there. The other entity was made perfectly, yet it, as well as a third of other created spirit entities went against the will of the creator prior to the creation of man. Okay so God creates, Satan and the other angels mess up what he creates so he creates man to ultimately correct the goodness that he created that went awry but there is a safeguard in check. Man is not created in spirit but must meet God's requirements to fulfill God's purpose when there will be a new earth and a new body for those who follow his requirements unlike those first created spirits who first inhabited the earth.

Point 3: a reward.

I would like to know your thoughts on....

1. Why were we given a body and or it's purpose/need

My thought would be because that is what could be formed from 'dust'. It's purpose and need - to hold all our vital organs.
2. Why do you think God wanted us to be in a body and not just spirit form
Because he wanted to.
3. Why are we given a new body for on the newly created earth
To get rid of the sinful flesh.

:)
