The next problem is, that it is combined in pentecostal and charismatic circles with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Which excludes all believers which are not following the expieriences with the baptism of they Holy Spirit.
I went to a big Christian conference/gathering.
I was struggling in my walk with God due to many reasons the main being severe anxiety as a result of severe childhood trauma and that God did not love me.

I went forward for prayer.

The person who came alongside me asked what I wanted prayer for and I mentioned the above issues.

Now this is true this was the conversation.

"Do you speak in tongues?
I said "no"
"Would you like to?
I couldn't answer that even though I had heard tongues in the Baptist church I was in.

I was then told

"Not speaking in tongues is evidence that you are not saved"

Even suggested that I could manufacturer it.

I carried that for so many years.
I wasn't going to manufacture it, I couldn't and wouldn't.

What a way to crush a believer and put a millstone round his neck.

I am not a cesationalist.
I fact the world today needs the miracles/signs/wonders that were prevalent in when Jesus was on earth and the early church did.

To say that it all stopped when the Apostles died and all we need now is just the Bible I think is wrong.

It's not a gift I have been given.

personally I feel the language of tongues may not be nesacsrily related to just one unknown language.

It could be if you spoke to a load of Spanish people who didn't understand English, they could still be elevated by the word that came forth from your lips.

As the spirit is in the word 😊

Does that mean you speak in Spanish as a tongue?

The person who told you that was wrong. Saying that is as bad as people saying tongues have ceased and saying people who practice tongues are deceived or have false faith.

There are many Christians who do not speak in tongues. Perhaps even most Christians don’t do it. But it’s not because they can’t, or don’t have the “gift.”

The fact that they’re Christian, born again of the Holy Spirit, means they have the ability to speak in tongues (1 Cor 12:7), and God wants them to (1 Cor 14:5).

it means you could have had the gift of tongues but never realised it.

Like have you ever spoke to some one face to face who didn't speak English ?

Praying like in Pentecostal / Charismatic Churches violates the teaching of Jesus above.
Since THERE IS NO REAL PROBLEM about praying in tongues, and NO LIMITATIONS abut where you can, or can't Pray using them, The ONLY PROBLEM lies in your Little personal PARADIGM about the issue.

You've Got God in your own little theological box, and you apparently expect Him to stay there obediently, constrained by YOUR (your denomination's) beliefs.

Don't quite get what you are saying.
Yes I have spoken to people who didn't speak English but not to bring the gospel to them.

Having said that us Brits when speaking to people who didn't speak English is quite a funny experience.

We tend to take on the lilt and wave our hands at the same time.

There has only be 2 times that I recall speaking in tongues.

That was in my conservatory on my own.

On both occasions I wanted to pray for a person/situation and I couldn't express a prayer.

I just asked God what can I pray.
All of a sudden I prayed not in English.

It was an experience that I can't explain but one that I felt blessed with.

your answer is kinda there.

Two people speaking to each other in a foreign language,

Such people Can sometimes kind of telepathically understand each other face to face.

Which Probably comes from the gift of tongues,

As the gift of tongues is also about interpreting 😊

When a person speaks in tongues they are speaking to God (1 Cor 14:2), not to other people. “Telepathy“ is not involved. Tongues is not for humans to communicate with each other.

27] If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.

How does a person interpret is a more important question

No, tongues is not “about” interpreting. They are two different manifestations.

Yes. When a person speaks in tongues aloud in the church, they must interpret.

How does a person interpret is a more important question
By operating the manifestation of interpretation of tongues.

What is the question that you think can’t be answered?
don't want to ask it again you've allready answered it.

But I have to say your answer is no more absolute than mine.

So I'll take your word for it.

Ok..

But you said that speaking in tongues might have something to do with two people who speak different languages sometimes being able to communicate. According to the Bible, when a person speaks in tongues he is speaking to God, not to other people. Tongues has nothing to do with humans communicating with each other.

Later.
