Well, then I would say that your interpretation of I Cor. 13 is exactly and precisely wrong and out of context.

Not that being wrong and out of context is not common; it is common. But common isn't what we're after. We're after truth.

It is pretty obvious, to me anyways, what Christ's Mission was on the cross.

This son's and daughter's prophesying is for a specific point in Our Father's Plan; doing it before that time, is dis-obeying Our Father.

Also it won't be us doing the prophesying anyways; it will be The Holy Spirit doing it through us, the last great miracle before the return of Christ/Messiah.

See...I'm in the middle on this. I think a bunch of you all make great points for both sides of the issue:

Essentially, one side says "there's nothing more to prophesy about"...while the other side is essentially arguing that until Christ returns there's more to happen and thus more to prophesy about. So I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I'm reminded of the passage at the end of Revelation 10...

Revelation 10:10-11

And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

...this scene is in the last prophetic book just before mentioning of the "measuring of the temple" and the two witnesses with their power. So to me this is saying "what was prophesied before (in times past) must be prophesied again for the final generation".

Now believers either have to assume that this book is all finished (those who believe prophesying has ended), or still being fulfilled (prophesying is still alive & well).

I believe prophecy is still supposed to happen, but I ALSO believe there's nothing new to say...kind of like this passage:

Ecclesiastes 1:9

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again;there is nothing new under the sun.

I think this is one of the BIGGEST keys to prophecy.

The thing is how this word is used in context here and there. What most people here have in their mind is 1st Corinthians 15:. Following the subject there, the word prophesy , just means to communication Gods message to people, to teach with edification, to exhortation, and comfort. If there is not communication between people, in love naturally, non of these things are accomplished.


The confusion is, this does not mean to get a divine revelation today, because like you said, everything is written. If people do have a dream, its a personal nature to get your life in order. But does not effect the scriptures. We ""teach"" to edifty the church with the prophets; that means God's written word.

Yes prophecy has ended. There are no more prophets that speak Gods word in the sense of Moses. There are prophets in the NT sense of forth telling or preaching the word of God. No new revelation no additions to the cannon already delivered but those who can expound the deeper truths of what has been delivered to the saints.

The prophecy of Joel is not written for the church or for the gentile world but for Israel and will be fulfilled in Israel.

The perfect in 1 Cor 13 is not Christ for He had already come and ascended when that was written but the perfect is the completed cannon of scripture. It is through scripture that we see that which was seen darkly through the OT. We as we are seen through the whole of scripture and all we need is in the complete scripture we have as the bible.

Believe in what you will but there is no virtue in believing is anything that is not scripturally sound.

I have to Majorly disagree with your above statement ........ Joel is prophecy, for the future ( To Christians ). This is written to those living in the Latter days (( NOW concerning II Thess 2 etc. )). This out pouring of The Holy Spirit will be to those that do know their, God ; in the last days ( Daniel 11:32 ). This event will be The true Gift as was given us in that example on Pentecost day, written of in Acts 2.

There is no way around the simple fact that Joel's prophecy is written to Israel. It also specifically states that your daughters and your young men will dream and prophecy so it is precise in that it will be Israel not church responding to Christ's return to Jerusalem. The celestial signs are clearly at the end when Christ comes to rescue Israel and destroy all those who have endeavored to destroy Israel and Jerusalem.

Peter clearly said that what we saw at Pentecost was not the fulfillment of Joel. Are you certain you understand what you are teaching? The Holy Spirit according to Joel was poured out on all flesh which is what Peter described at Pentecost.

When the times of the Gentiles is over God will return to fulfill all His promises to Israel.

It means a gift to teach. to communicate God's message to people, and have them be edified, meaning learn and mature in God;s word. People have a tendency to turn this into a religious traditional thing, and twist this and many things, into something its not .

This simply means to teach effectively God's Words he has given through the prophets etc. To exhortation edification and comfort .

Prophecy of future things is real too. I once was prophesied about my life from a man and woman of God, about the struggle I would go through. But they comforted me to as this was something that was God's will. I was like at the time "wonder what exactly I'm going through?" But then later on I went through a lot with family, friends, relationships, and my job all at once. Hit me like a tidal wave. Amazingly he does a talk show and the message he gave me is recorded and I saved it on my kindle and I listen to it every once in a while and it comforts me through what I could have thought God was angry. Because I am aware of what happened, I praise God instead of blaming Him. And his wife told me to continually go with God through it all, and gave me words of wisdom. Because of that...I cannot explain. There is more coming according to them. Who knows. But they provided scripture as to what they saw and how it connected. Pretty awesome stuff. They are very very humble people. They don't say they are prophets, matter of fact not once have I seen or heard them say they were, they call it ministering (which is pretty much serving) in the prophetic ministry.

Oh if I may!

Translated it simply says.... What about the two WITNESSES that will PROHECY in the CITY CALLED SPIRITUALLY: SODOM! Will these two have the GIFT OF PROHECY, and what will they PROHECY? What will they SAY!

Prophesy does not just deal with doctrine.Rev says the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophesy and I hope we have the testimony of our Lord.Even if the scripture has revealed all ,which I dont know if it has, surly it has not become living to us in its fullness Prophesy is a living word,alive, the spirit of Christ. The early Christians also had the gift of prophecy while the full outpouring of the Spirit was yet upon them until it passed away toward the end of the first century in fulfillment of 1 Cor. 13, which states that the gift of propecy would be done away with and that Faith, Hope and Love would be all that would abide.

I'm pretty sure you mis-read it. While it says "where there are propecies, they will cease" it goes on in the same verse to say "where there is knowledge, it will pass away". Is knowledge gone? Of course not. Paul is talking about the superiority of love, how in a person it doesn't come and go like skills such as prophecy. He speaks of the gift of prophecy in same chapter in verse 2. Do you think that God wasted anyone's time with descriptions about gifts that no longer exist when we read about them?

You didn't get this belief from the bible, because the bible didn't put an expiration date on them -- definitely not a specific one, and in my interpretation not a general one, either. You got it from observation of the lack of this gift today, and you wanted to rationalize how the bible could say that people have it when they clearly don't.
