I know there are plenty of threads about Christians and alcohol. This thread isn't necessarily intended for that. I'm just looking for interpretations of this verse and what it means for you.

"Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright." - KJV

"Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it goes down smoothly;" - NASB

Read it in context starting at verse 29 and it'll make more sense:
Pro 23:29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? 30 Those who linger long at the wine, Those who go in search of mixed wine. 31 Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, [When] it swirls around smoothly; 32 At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a viper.
Basically - don't be a drunk or drink when depressed. It causes you to do things you wouldn't ordinarally do - and wake up with a hangover. (I especially like the next verse in its context - a BIG WARNING)
33: Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
So maybe Solomon had one of those evenings where he woke up next to a woman who was hot when he was drunk - the next day, not so much...

Proverbs 20:1
(1) Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Strong drink is anything with alcohol we should stay away from all alcohol

I do not think that is what it is saying. Why then would Messiah have changed water into wine, or drink with sinners?
Matthew 11:19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners."' But wisdom is proved right by her actions."
Paul even suggested Timothy add a little wine into his diet for health reasons
1 Timothy 5:23 Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.
I believe the message is more simple than that. Don't be a drunk! LOL!

It is written, wine is to make the heart merry. However it is also written that one should not be a slave to anything. There is nothing inherently wrong with alcoholic beverages, however alcohol should not rule over a person. To say it is wrong to have any kind of alcoholic beverage is wrong, after all our Lord, Jesus Christ was called a drunkard and a glutton simply because he ate and drank with sinners, and I know He was never a drunkard or a glutton. Always judge for yourself what is right, however judge with right judgment and not by appearance. This lesson will take a believer a long way on the path the Lord provides. Blessed be Jesus Christ, and blessed be all members of His Body here in this age.

Isaiah 65:8
(8) Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

In the Bible wine is either alcoholic or non alcoholic, Jesus turned water into non alcoholic wine, fresh grape juice. He would not make wine for people to get drunk.

1 Peter 5:8
(8) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

God is saying that when the wine,or grape juice, ferments,do not drink it,which shows God is against alcohol.

Wine in the Bible can clearly be grape juice or fermented grape juice, but it is originally called wine when it is grape juice because the Bible says do not look at the wine when it ferments pointing out that the grape juice is called wine, whether fermented or not fermented.

1Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.(Proverbs 20:1).

This is also testimony that God is against alcohol.

The truth is that if alcohol causes problems socially and to ones self then it is evil.

If one says I can control it,they do not know for sure.

Also God would not give us a temptation before us in the area of alcohol seeing the problems it causes for if it is evil in a lot then it is evil in a little for evil is evil.

God did not say you can steal a piece of bubblegum but do not steal a car,for if it evil in a lot it is evil in a little for evil is evil, evil does not change from evil to good in the same subject like good does not turn to evil in the same subject.

God did not say you can kiss a woman that is not your wife but do not fornicate for if she is not your wife you can no physical intimacy with her at all.
