He just wants to watch them to watch them.
I'm trying to find out what they are about because I don't want him being led astray.
And no offense, but that wasn't my question.
It may be helpful to him if you act interested in the Bible code videos and see if you can watch them with him. Even if it turns out to be nonsense, it is a good opportunity to show him the difference between speculative versions of Christianity and sound, Biblical Christianity. Often, the best apologetic for Christianity is a real Christian that doesn't come across naive or superstitious -- one that just focuses on sound/rational exegesis of Scripture and Christian love for others. Plus, by watching it with him, you show a lot of confidence in your faith because you aren't afraid to be directly confronted by opposing versions.

(Note: this approach will only work if you're sound in the faith and have a very solid grasp of the Bible and its teachings. We won't appear competent at defending the faith if we aren't.)

**Sorry -- I just noticed that you already mentioned watching it with him. In my opinion, you don't need to be an expert in the video's teachings to be able to watch it with him. It is more important that you have a solid grasp on the truth. Someone who knows the truth can identify counterfeits fairly easy. Plus, if you don't have an answer to something, there's no shame in saying, "That's interesting. I suspect it is wrong, but I'll do some research and let you know what I think when I'm done."

A friend of mine has just recently started seeking answers about God. He is an atheist only because that's how he was brought up. Now he has become curious about God and the bible.

Today he came over and said a man he works with gave him two DVDs to watch. He asked me if he should watch them.

The problem here is,
I have never watched them nor have I even heard of them. I told him he should just read the bible first. But he wants to watch them.

So my question is,

Have any of you heard or know of the DVDs called
"The Prophecy Code, Bible Secrets Unlocked with Doug Batchelor"?
If so, what do you think of them?

I don't want my friend being taught false teachings. He doesn't know God's word at all. I'm afraid if he watches them he will believe everything in them and if its false teachings than he will be led astray before he even has a chance to truly know God.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would just tell him straight up that those movies are just entertainment, and that it's possible some people put faith in codes and superstition and stuff like that, but explain that it's not the truth of God.

Maybe you can even suggest "Jesus of Nazareth" or even "The Passion" for him to watch. Or any other movie that is true to the Word of God. Evidently if your friend is willing to watch a DVD on religion, maybe he's almost ready to receive Christ in his heart. WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Lord for calling Prestley's friend to You. Let his heart be softened to receive You, and make him free! \:)/

I'm more than happy to watch them with him. I just wanted an inside look at what I was getting myself into. He wants me to watch them so I told him I would. I'd still prefer if he would study the Bible a little first. But honestly, I think he is scared to.
I understand what you are getting at though. He even said "If you are so strong in your " faith" then you can watch them without your mind being changed." I tried to explain to him that its not me I'm worried about.

Thank you Violet!
I have a LOT of Christian bassed movies. I'll see if I can't talk him into watching some.
I really hope you're right. :)
He is always asking questions. Use to he would just laugh at me and make fun of me reading my bible. Make rude comments. He even spray painted a church house with some not so nice words. He has come a very long way in just a month. I even noticed he doesn't cuss as much. Before he wouldn't even care. I got hurt a few days ago, he came to visit me after he got off work. I guess he thought I was asleep cuz he prayed for me. I told him thank you and he acted like he did know what I was talking about. Lol he really has come such a long way. :)

I have a LOT of Christian based movies. I'll see if I can't talk him into watching some.
Do you have the movie, The Gospel of John, word for word rendition of the American Bible Society Good News Bible? That is a really good movie because it does not leave a word of the gospel out, even though it is not my favourite translation... plus, it is very well done!

No I don't. :/ but I seen it today at the Christian book store I shop at. :) I'll have to get it tomorrow when I pick up the books I ordered.
I do have "apostle peter and the last supper"
I was thinking that might be a good one to start off with?
He has asked alot about Peter lately. I'm hoping if he watches it me might become curious enough to read it himself.

That's soooooo exciting!!! \:D/ I recommend being his friend and letting the Spirit of God do the calling & wooing him. I wouldn't get real worked up about those movies, I'd focus more on Jesus displaying His love through you to your friend. I can't help how excited I feel witnessing thru your testimony the Lord bringing in that precious sheep. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have butterflies in my stomach!!!
Your friend's getting set free!!!!!!! Praise GOD!!!

It's extremely exciting to see it happen right before your eyes! especially when it's an atheist who has lived his whole life putting christians down. I love seeing how God works :)
Thank you so much!

I'm not entirely sure you can talk him out of watching them. That said, yes, it's a pile of junk. It's a way at pretending you're seeking God without ever making contact. It's glorified scifi that forgot to glorify anything but the common way for Man to create a new toy. Sort of like watching Dan Brown movies and think you're getting Bible lessons.

Okay thank you!

Yeah, I watch alot of different people and read many books but I've been seeking God and have studied my bible long enough to determine what's wright and wrong. (Not saying I know everything cuz obviously I don't)
I might watch a DVD or two but I'd rather he didn't. Not until he starts studying the bible. But he is stubborn and doesn't listen very well. Lol
You are welcome. You have gotten some excellent advice from various people here. I agree that allowing him to explore without feeling overly pressured by you is a good approach. He will know you are interested in and care about his welfare, and that is important. As a non-believer, I was not averse to being friends with Christians if they were not trying to proselytize me. In fact, the more I liked them and got along with them on a personal level, the more open I was to spending time with them. I even went to Bible studies long before I was saved, because I was invited to study God's Word with people I knew cared about me. Those are fond memories for me :) God bless you, Pres!

Yeah, I've done more research on them. I'm not too big on what I seen to put it nicely.
I've shown him some of the comments and I think he is finally understanding why I keep telling him he needs to read the bible. Hopefully when he goes home he will change his mind. I have the DVDs with me. He won't watch them alone and I'm thankful for that.

I do believe in, "don't judge a book by it's cover," but to be honest, I'm judging the DVD's by the title. Anytime someone is selling prophecy codes or bible secrets finally revealed, it's probably junk. I personally wouldn't waste my time with it.
