When you have that relationship with Jesus, the Holy Spirit leads you into all truth, convicts you of sin, and encourages when trials come. That is the difference between legalism and a relationship with the living Saviour.
Religion is about keeping rules, relationship is about having God show you the way. Of course, the Holy Spirit will never contradict the Word of God. But so much better to have Jesus guiding and leading you, than relying on works if the law and religion being the way to earn your way into the grace of God! As if anyone can do that!
"Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified." Gal 2:16
