There are three references in the entire Bible to this 1000 year millennial notion, all in succession in Rev. 20:

"He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years." Rev. 20:2

"He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time." Rev. 20:3

"I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years." Rev. 20:4

The first two have to do with Satan. The last reference is obviously symbolic. Do you know why?

Because in order for something to be important, God repeats it over and over. Take the cross, for example - it is found approx 36 times in the New Testament. That means God thought it was IMPORTANT.

One reference about Christians and millions of books, posts and theologies coming out of it.

It makes no sense hermeneutically to me! Can't we discuss something meaningful, instead of the symbolism found in 3 consecutive verses of only one chapter of a very symbolic book in the Bible???
just a question.

why does it have to be symbolic? why can;t they all be talking about the same event and time period.

I do not think they are symbolic at all, but literal events.

The study of eschatology should only be done when other basics are understood. That's why historically many other Christian doctrines have been examined and dogmatized before now. This is a major problem with many over-focusing on Rev. and other prophetic books. But they are there for our understanding and Rev. is the only book in the Bible which specifically gives a "blessing" to those who read it. 1:3Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near.
