I was thinking today, In bible times, the parents were often outnumbered 10 to 1 by their children, and post Moses, didnt live as long as we do today. With so few Elders, no wonder they were given respect because the majority of people would have been in the first half of life.

When most of the western world is starting to be challenged by having so few children that we are barely replacing ourselves, and that we are now living longer due to better nutrition, medicines etc, Does it become harder to respect elders when elders are no longer the minority?

If you could tag your age at the end of your answer, I think that would help people better relate to your answers. Age 44

numbers don't mean anything, it's all in the attitude. You can respect 10 elders as easily as 1. What is a problem is that people are learning to respect no one, no matter what age. Including themselves

like many other commands in the biblical text people have been taught it no longer applies, and the accountability part of our relationship with the Almighty is marginal at best, too many children are not being taught respect in their homes because many parents haven't been, too many times parents rely on public schools to educate their children in matters of character, this is not good, public schools most often fail to teach even the basics in education, how then can they be relied upon to teach character?

I agree ones attitude is an important variable in respect, because respect comes from values. What do we value? Things that effect those values are what we will respect. So if we value things that elders can show us, like long life, peace, sustainability, then we will respect them. But in the case of this world, many elders can't share these things with us. They are lost themselves, carried to old age based on the things you mentioned. Soo why would anyone respect someone who has nothing of value to share and earn my respect? Still, I respect all elders, mostly because I am a people pleaser, but if I had a backbone I'd tell the crummy ones to straiten up like the rest of 'em. And as for the good ones, they are priceless treasure that literally happen once in a lifetime.

I think that demons rule our world more and more as the world ages. Scripture tells us this will happen. Demons have changed the family. Today, people listen to the world to determine what they are to do about the elderly. Now we are put away, isolated. The attitude of the young toward the aged is disrespect, as they feel their young body that is much superior makes them too superior to age to bother with it. Our many life experiences, our lifetime of study, our knowledge of the past they know nothing of is regarded as worthless.

Leviticus 19:32 ‘You shall rise up before the grayheaded and honor the aged, and you shall revere your God; I am the Lord.

Job 12:12 “Wisdom is with aged men,
With long life is understanding.

However, we elderly today could certainly do better. Many of the people live among have stopped learning anything new, and have become absorbed with themselves.

I am 96

Respecting ones Elders has nothing to do with the number of Elders.

Respecting ones Elders has everything to do with recognizing the teachings of Scripture, and growing/learning in Scripture, and putting that in effect in ones life.

Quite often, these Elders are the mature believers in the Church. Those who have grown strong in and full of understanding of the Gospel. They are those worthy to be called Teachers. These are to be respected.

It was still being taught for girls to curtsey and boys to boy whenn introduced to an adult. It was also taught to stand up when an elder or a lady entered a room.. Yes, I said lady, this used to be an honor to call any female adult.

It was nice and not a burden. That faded away in the fifties..

With seniors as with all others, we must learn to take people as they are. If they are not of one's own favor, simple, do ot have anything to do with them, but love them and pray for them if they seem to be lost.

As for demons running the latter day world, yes, and they will soon be, if not already, the vast majority. Believers, hole on the Jesus Yeshua, we will all be needing Him more than ever. all love in Jesus Yeshau, and blessings too.

Many people live in the life of the flesh, taking their orders from the demons that run the fleshly world, but there are the blessed segments who live in the kingdom and take their orders from scripture, not the world.

Living in the world of the kingdom means the fleshly world gives us many troubles, but we have eternal life and inner peace of the Lord.
