Do we presume to know how Mike or any other might change his/her ways when confronted with the guilt of sin? Like I said before, I skipped some pages in this thread. But I would like to tell Mike, don't let people cause you unfounded guilt by adding to the law. It says nothing about using electricity or running water. When you discover that you have broken the law in ignorance, ask for forgiveness and make a conscience decision to do better next time. You can do it.
my intent in talking to Mike was to show that following Torah is extremely difficult outside of an observant community.

Amish people live without electricity on the Sabbath
they form communities to support this lifestyle

is it OK to pay someone else to work on the Sabbath for you?

I don't cut my own grass on the Sabbath, but I can pay my neighbor to do it for me?
A servant is different than an employee. You own a servant, you don't own an employee.

I don't pay the individual employee of a utility company. Their employer does. What they decide to do with their money and employees is their business, not mine.

Again, these are Pharisetical attitudes and man-made standards, not Biblical ones.

if you call God's appointed times, "ceremonial law", well that can't be Scripture abuse because the term "ceremonial law" is no where to be found in Scripture.
Hi Mike,

Its appointed time singular as in one. And the law is, simply ceremonial.... shadows and types used until the reformation .
Has the reformation come .Was the veil sewn back together? Are we still cooking mana on the day before we fast so we can rest from that servile work and work to offering the gospel to the world, the one day he set aside as holy when we do not have to work to eat( baking manna) seeing that work was finished the day before?

Why are the Judaizes oppose the holy ceremonial laws? Is it still imposed on us?

The beginning of the reformation...reads...

And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. Mar 15:37

The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:Which was a figure(parable) for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;Which “stood only” in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinance”, imposed on them until of the time reformation. Heb 9:8

What do the words “stood only” mean? Only what?

Hi Mike,

Its appointed time singular as in one.
Who told you that?

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them,
[Concerning] the feasts of YHVH, which ye shall proclaim [to be] holy convocations, [even] these [are] My feasts.
Leviticus 23:2 (KJV, MBM)

Depending on how you count, at least 8 feasts (appointed times) are specified in Leviticus 23.

Jesus is our Sabbath rest . He fulfilled all the law. Don't be like the original Israelites that refused to believe in what God has said and thus died in the wilderness.
Weve been over this actually using scriptures. Dont you ever read them? Once again WHY DID THEY DIE IN THE WILDERNESS!

HEBREWS 3 [12]Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you AN EVIL HEART OF UNBELIEF, in departing from the living God. [13] But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. [14] For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; [15] WHILE IT IS SAID, TO DAY IF YE WILL HEAR HIS VOICE, HARDEN NOT YOUR HEARTS, AS IN THE PROVOCATION. [16] For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came OUT OF EGYPT by Moses. [17] But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, WHOSE CARCASES FELL IN THE WILDERNESS? [18] And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? [19] So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief
.
Scripture above (out of Egypt - into the wilderness - those that believed not - destroyed them)
Scripture below (out of Egypt - into the wilderness - polluted HIS SABBATHS - destroyed them)

EZEK.20 [10] Wherefore I caused them to go forth OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT, and brought them INTO THE WILDERNESS. [11] And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them.[12] Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.[13] But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and MY SABBATHS THEY GREATLY POLLUTED: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them IN THE WILDERNESS, TO CONSUME THEM.

To consume them. They died! Why? Gods sabbaths they greatly polluted. Plain as day. Simple. Easy to understand. If you actually read the scriptures

Hebrews 4:9-10 (NASB)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

[SUP]10 [/SUP] For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.

You posted the scripture Grace777x70. Hebrews 4:9-10

HEBREWS 4 [9] THERE REMAINETH THEREFORE A REST to the people of God.[10] For HE THAT IS ENTERED INTO HIS REST, he also hath ceased from his own works, AS GOD DID FROM HIS. [11] Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Well...Ya see what it says. We are to rest from our works as God did from His. Now lets see how God rested from His work

HEBREWS 4 [4] For he spake in a certain place of THE SEVENTH DAY on this wise, And GOD DID REST THE SEVENTH DAY from all his works

Yup. Right there in Hebrews 4. God rested the 7th day. Pretty simple. Easy to understand. If you actually read the scriptures

If I were to observe the Sabbath as a day of the week, I would try and mimic what it was to live back then, no electricity (rise with the sun, sleep with the sun, lamps if really needed), no running water (prefilled jars of water)...prepare meals (no cooking fire), no cell phones, no cars (walk where ever ), spend the day in prayer and fellowship with others.

Maybe when I am 70 and God grants me that rest and time to do so. I think it would be peaceful.

For now, life calls and we do what God asks us to do. Most require modern conveniences of electricity, cars, cell phones, shopping, cleaning and cooking.

We do what God tells us to Do...eat meat or not, observe weekly Sabbath or not. It is different for each person.

As someone pointed out....the priest did not rest during the Sabbath.

When did they rest?

In a legalistic sort of Pharisee way, I think you could make that case, sorta.
I don't work or shop on the Sabbath, not even for gas. (we plan ahead). I don't directly force anyone to work for me. Again, you could make the case, sorta, that by using electricity I may be forcing people to work. This is not the first time this subject has been discussed. However, it may be that I need to make changes, not God.
Don't be ridiculous

good!

of course, the electricity doesn't arrive at your house free of labor... someone is working at a power plant somewhere

is it OK to benefit from the labor of
someone working on the Sabbath? someone working to serve your request for power?

true about the modern conveniences

the Israelites lived in such a way that everything could be "turned off" for the Sabbath

question for anyone... if modern utilities require people to work on the Sabbath, is it lawful to support them, or use them on the Sabbath?

There are Christians that believe they are free from the law,
Yeah.

1JOHN2 [3] AND HEREBY WE DO KNOW THAT WE KNOW HIM, IF WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS.[4] He that saith, i know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.[5] But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

They really dont know the Lord

Real Christians are dead to the Law and released from the Law of Moses so that we can be joined to another - the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 7:6

What are the commandments in the New Covenant from the Father?

John tells us exactly what they are. ( they are not going back to the law of Moses which is but a mere shadow of the real thing which is Christ Himself - we live by the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus now and the law of love )

1 John 3:23 (NASB)
[SUP]23 [/SUP] This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.

for Sabbath keepers, to not work on the Sabbath

I assume that would include not encouraging others to work on the Sabbath

Following the example of Jesus, one should encourage all others to keep the Sabbath holy and to follow all of God's law. If someone shows us that breaking the Sabbath is a sin, should we ask for forgiveness and continue to sin, or should we ask for forgiveness and repent? We were told to repent and to sin no more. Sin is transgression of the law. Jesus is the bread of life. Why did God rain bread from heaven?

Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

Jesus is the bread of life, and bread came from heaven for us to prove whether we will walk in God's law, or no. Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God. And God spoke all these words to Moses, saying...

Pray that you understand the words God has spoken.

Jesus is the bread of life

are we supposed to gather a double-portion of Christ on fridays?

((what would that even mean?))

right! that would include not encouraging power plant workers to break the Sabbath, looks like

'...gather a certain rate every day...'

yes! with twice as much the day before the Sabbath, I believe

so even gathering food isn't a proper Sabbath activity
