Prayer changes things and sorry if there have been instances where you have watched loved ones fall into sin. In my own life I was the one making the choices and when those choices were wrong there are consequences that follow. For myself I'd say I didn't fall into sin I ran after it and then paid the price.
God doesn't force us to change we have to choose God and then He does everything to help us change because we realize we can't survive without Him. He loves us so much He doesn't always stop us from falling when it was our choice to take that fall. But He is there to help us pick up the pieces after we have broken ourselves.
Revelation 21:~
5And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." And He said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true."
John 14:
1"Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.
2"In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
3"If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.…
Matthew 28:20 (last part)~lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
He promises to be with us asks us to trust in Him and know He will make all things new.
