I want to believe in Jesus and the impossibilities that can become possible in this world because of His words but I don't know what is keeping me doubting His goodness. Something just makes me think that, it's about His love for all mankind despite their beliefs. There are people who do find direction and peace just by meditation and surrendering their problems to a 'greater force' not necessarily Jesus Christ. I don't know what to say about that. We thumping our Bibles and preaching out loud about Jesus ....how does it bring a total spiritual change in someone's life? How does it make Jesus above everything that they could reach out to? And if they get their peace by doing meditation, yoga and such things. Why would they want to seek Jesus ?
But to lightly cover your question with a question.
If you were master and commander of the Universe...how would you determine which people really were your friends and which were being nice to you solely for what you could give them?
Then...
Choosing a life of altruism and focusing on the good, positive things you can do in your community based upon the instructions of Jesus is just that. A choice.
The results of that choice will be drastically different in general. A full, rich life of sorrow, joy, love, and concerns or shallow, self absorbed, callous, uncaring and frustration.
Trying to go halfway between the two really doesn't work either. Naturally we tend to gravitate towards the self absorbed person...but those who have lived both sides know which side of the bread our butter is on.
And as a result of my choice...for whatever insane reason, God has blessed my choices. He has occasionally interfered in this world to look after me, protect me, and provide for me. I'm guessing it's because He has a reputation of being good to protect because I'm really not worth the effort. (He is God and I'm just a nobody schmuck)
I can tell you this though...He isn't some sort of Santa Claus Superhero that is always there to rescue me and give me toys like some people say. He can be if needed to...but that's not what He is about. He is a person and personable and my favorite friend I'd do anything for...if only I could.
