I found this gem at the store today:

it just MIGHT replace my soda addiction......
I just have to get use to the feeling my body gets after having the organic erythritol that is in it (at least, I think that's what I'm reacting to- it's that or maybe the organic stevia leaf extract, or a combo of both)
Found it in the cooler, so it was nice and cold when I tried it. But when I tried it at home later almost room temp it wasn't as good, so definitely a better cold drink). I've seen other flavors too, might have to try them next time.

Hello Chilidog, so nice to have you here, and my heart goes out to you, and your friend/roommate, knowing first hand as I do, the perils of addiction, understanding that it is a cunning enemy of life no less treacherously destructive than a lion who prowls about looking for someone to devour... and making this connection to Satan is not something I do lightly or in jest in any way, because alcoholism - no two ways about it - is a seductive life destroyer. Sad but true: we cannot help people who do not wish to be helped. If you could get your friend to go to meetings, any kind of 12 step meeting, it might be helpful, and, not prone to giving advice, I would suggest you allow others to help him there if they can, with you being a major support from the sidelines once he gets clean and sober.

I attended AA off and on for a number of years before I first got sober and put down the mind and mood altering drugs at the same time, attending both AA and NA for many years after that, as well as other fellowships based on the 12 steps. People who are not familiar with the program may not realize that the heart and soul of the program and fellowship are based around developing and maintaining a personal relationship with God. Heh, even people in the program may argue about this though it is clearly articulated in the copious literature and also in the steps. There was a thread active for a while for addicts, called CRA Christians In Recovery (anonymous) (<= link). Some of my own personal testimony about this is in there as well as in my Scripture Art thread starting near the bottom of page two...

I relapsed after 8 years still in rebellion against God... was in and out over a period
of another 8 years, and am currently over ten years clean and sober again :D

Kudos to your for finding your footing on the Rock of Ages! Oh my goodness, I was so stubbornly stiff necked, even after God revealing Himself to me powerfully, profoundly, and personally a number of times... I wanted something else! Of course that was prior to my conversion, while living a life full of high risk behaviors including alcohol and drugs, which I have been delivered from, and for which I thank God for being so gracious to allow me to survive the stupidity of my youth. If you have access to the AA Big Book, please start reading it with your friend and do not take no for an answer. Heh, yeah, that's a suggestion but seriously, you may need to negotiate some new living arrangement with him so you can both feel safe in your living space. Most AA literature is available for free online, and so is much of the NA literature. You may also benefit from Hope For Today, which is in the CRA thread as well. My life is so so so much better now than it was while I was in active addiction.

Please feel free to ask me any questions about this at any time :D
Thank you so much.. You have no idea how much all of that really does help and how much that all really meant to me. Ill keep my head up and try and get my hands on an AA big book.

Is it caffeinated?? I'm seriously trying to quit soda. Its the hardest thing. I had no idea how addicted I've been until I tried to quit. Water is just so.... so boring.

You are welcome! It has been a while since I've been to a meeting in person during all the
covid confusion (I was going through cancer treatments at the same time, which there is no
further need for) but I mean it when I say, ask any question at any time and I will do my best
to answer, for as they say in AA:
I am Responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help,
I want the hand of A.A. always to be there. And for that: I am responsible.”

Thank you, Jesus

okay, i sooooooooo totally get what you are saying here!
Soda (especially a certain brand/flavor that I will not mention as I'm trying to get away from it) is my weakness....... my kryptonite . :(
Um I don't mind water, and I am getting better about drinking it. I try to push myself or rather trick myself into a little more each day, and I do feel better when I drink more water than anything else. But yes, at times it can be boring.

Okay, just looked at the bottle in my hands. NO CAFFEINE. So if it is flavor you are looking for then maybe try some of these.

I can tell you this (my experience, anyway) - the more water you drink - and, the less soda you drink - it will get more and more easy (less 'boring') until you actually enjoy water more than soda!

Hang in there...

Don't give up...

Easy fix, add about 1/4 juice to any water and that makes it doable bc the juice is usually so sweet.

I have never been a fan of soda drinks thank God but coffee is a different story. Although two is my maximum per day.
Water really is the best but I agree it can be a bit boring. Fresh lemon squeeze can help.
I recommend pancake coffee :p

Olympic gold medalist wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock: ‘I love representing the US'

https://www.foxnews.com/sports/olym...amyra-mensah-stock-i-love-representing-the-us

That's much more like it! Gwen Berry (who turned away from the flag when the national anthem was played during the medal ceremony at the US Olympic trials and said she will continue to do so) has a lot to learn from Tamyra Mensah-Stock.

Look I do not like commenting on these kind of issues because it is really a big problem all over the world at the moment. If you are so unhappy with the country that is providing freedom and food for you and your family, move back to Africa and see if it is better there. The African continent is beautiful but unforgiving. These.... let say uninformed people, are really complaining without considering how many people would have loved to represent a country like USA at the Olympics.

I have not watched the Olympics once yet
I am not even sure how long it goes for
I only see what is mentioned on the news and it seems we have won alot of medals in swimming :D
I am not a big sports fan. I find it a little
Although I do like the running and gymnastics (y)
Oh boy, I am getting stuck on using these emoji's again
Time for another coffee and one of Gandy's donuts :coffee::giggle:

Good morning friends :) Yes, that includes people I am not quoting here LOL

Water has been my fave drink for a long time as well, for I have never been a big pop drinker, either, particularly as a kid, though I have tried various products over the years perhaps especially this past decade, and discovered that water flavorers were not the way to go, as the dextrose or sucrose lingering in your mouth can cause dental decay, and my body does not tolerate aspartame in diet drinks well at all (Fresca was very tasty, but aspartame precipitates my detox reflex, which is a very uncomfortable, edgy feeling in my feet that I have experienced since I was a kid), and I simply don't care for the regular things like Pepsi or Coke, or Sprite, for a number of reasons: too much sugar certainly being one, and too much caffeine being another (I used to be "allergic" to caffeine LOL) so I have never tried any of those drinks that are caffeine boosters like Monster or Red Bull... they sound wretched to me heehee, as too much caffeine is oy vey! No, I do not like that feeling either :giggle::geek:

I was drinking Zevia for a while. I know some people have an issue with Stevia, though I never have... so it is zero calorie, zero carbs, and no caffeine either! Root beer was my fave for a while but now I like the black cherry. There are no artificial colors, either :D

After all is said and done, water is the most economical (y)

In the summer I freeze about 800 ml of water in a drink bottle
and it stays very cold for hours and hours while the ice melts :)
