Mat 12:38
Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
Mat 12:39
But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
Mat 12:40
For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Mat 12:41
The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonasishere.

Our Father does not perform for unbelievers, although many times manifestations of the gifts have been and are granted to this very day. Anyone seeking a sign for proof may as well be in the desert with Yeshua asking Him to convert stones into bread. God is not tempted.
Those who believe witness miracles daily, it is commonplace for them because of their faith.

As posted previously, many people hold the form of religion but deny the power of Yahweh, God.

Speaking in tongues is for the unbeliever a miracle. For the believer it is a prophecy. Prophecy simply meaning a message. And tongues in scripture is a foreign language as it also says in acts. Many people. Speak in tongues but does anyone know any interpreters? For without an interpreter speakung in tongues is just gibberish to everyone else whuch is confusion.

And since God is not the author of confusion....why should believers speak in tongues to each other?

I agree speaking in tongues may be needed today but only for the unbeliever to see the work of God.
Not for belivers to use as a Holy Spirit filled worship service.

Just read what Paul said to the Corinthians in this matter.

Are tongues for today? I don't know but I do see that they are used in a way that seems to contradict scripture.
It would be interesting to know what you are seeing. I know there are many counterfeits out there. But if all you have seen is that, I can understand why you would feel as you do.

Regarding a speaking in tongues prerequisite for believing. No one comes to Yeshua unless the Father draws him to Him, and in the same manner, no man can confess Jesus Christ unless it is by the Holy Spirit.

I have fellowshiped a lot with Pentecostles, and it is great fellowship, honest and true. Names on religions using the Word as Authority have always caused strife, some a little, some a lot.

It is important to remember we are all family in one Savior regardless of our church affiliation, otherwise we are thinking the others will not be with us in the Kingdom, and this is judging, the which we are taught never to do lest we fall under condemnation by that same judgment.

Yes, there are some fakes in Pentecostle assemblies, but then there are hypocrites in every walk and way.

No one need have any specific gift, but all are in possession of more than enough in having faith, hope and love. These three gifts will cause fruition to proceed from any believer. God, Yahweh, bless all here with hearts of unity in faith, hope and love, amen.

Well that's an unfair statement. I go to a Pentecostal church and I don't disregard scripture, in fact I take it pretty seriously. I also was filled with the Holy Spirt and can speak in tongues but it has nothing to do with how emotional it makes me feel...it has to do with how God moves. He's in control of His church, the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and all other gifts He gives. All of it is about giving God glory not about being super spiritual or if it makes us feel emotional.
I recall you saying your church is a Oneness Pentecostal church. Is that true?

Also, you will not find anywhere in scripture where it teaches that the speaking in tongues is gibberish.

Pentecostals are very prone to embracing heretics such as Joyce Meyers, Paula White, the crew on TBN, Word of Faith, and a number of other heresies because they use their feelings rather than scripture to determine truth.

Not every single Pentecostal is that way, I can think of one who strongly denounces Word of Faith, but even he recognizes it is oh so prevalent.

Hmmm! I have heard many things on that subject... The real thing I know is I use another language to avoid being heard by the people around. This is not "tongue" speaking, but I like privacy to pray.

Some folks faking something does not mean all folks fake something. Also , your reference to gibberish is wrong. On the day of pentecost they spoke human languages, but Paul refers to a heavenly language and the tongues(or language) of Angels. Why say that he speaks it if it doesn't exist.
You're misusing that passage. Ever heard of hyperbole?

In 1 Cor. 1 Paul is emphasizing the necessity of love. He is using angelic language, which is supposed to be the most beautiful of all, as a way to say, "doesn't matter what you do, how eloquent you are, etc etc if you don't do so with love."

13 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

An opposing view point doesn't really require bashing a branch of Christianity. You refer to Pentecostals looking for a good "feeling", why would that be wrong? Oh I get the don't let your feelings lead your faith, but can't a believer feel good about their faith? Jinx made some valid points without bashing and smashing. We don't always have to agree, and surely you can have fun in here. Your relationship with God is yours, it doesn't have to be mine.

God Bless
The Machine
Feeling good about your faith, and using feelings to disregard being a Berean are two different usage of feelings. There is a stark difference between, "this feels good, therefor it's the holy spirit" and "this feels good, I think it's the holy spirit, let's see what scripture says and test the spirit." Surely you can recognize that problem, and that it is a major one in Pentecostal circles.

Try again.

1 Cor. 14

5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues,[c] unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.

I've always prayed silently. Any God that would need me to say it out loud isn't God.

I've thought Jesus prayed silently or at least quietly enough not to be overheard for three years because the disciples had to ask him "what to pray" so they obviously had never heard him pray.

Yet nowadays public prayer is the norm. Odd that we follow and aspire to be like Jesus yet we intentionally don't do what He did.

Mat 6:6
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

I am completely of one accord on the subject, though sometimes I will mumble under my breath, but the Father always understands as though I were speaking with loud and perfect diction.

All who call on the Only Begotten Son in spirit and truth are family in Yeshua, Jesus, amen.

I go to a pentecostle church and I have never witnessed anybody just speaking in tongues on command or anything like that. I have heard that before from some people that they speak in tongues on command. Anyway, my experience and the reason I am there is because when I walked into that church I felt the Holy Spirit like never before. The instances I have seen and experienced with people speaking in tongues. They have been people who are quiet about it. People walked up to me that I didn't know and just started praying for things that they couldn't have known. I've also heard some people say that you should understand what is being said. That it is supposed to be edifying to the whole congregation or that there should be a translator. The way I have seen it, it is edifying. It is healing and strong. I have never understood what was being said but I have witnessed amazing things. I feel the Holy Spirit like a wind in my chest. I move when it tells me to move and the Spirit guides me. Yet I have never spoken in tongues. As Jaumej we all have different gifts.

Once while fellowshiping in a Pentecostle assembly, a young lady had been prayed for, and she had remained in the middle of a very large room sitting on an ottoman. Although people were all around she was somewhat alone. I was heading somewhere and when I was about to pass her, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit so very strong, so warm and so much love, I looked at the girl, and she looked at me smiling, and all I could do was say repeatedly, "You are so blessed." As I said this she simply smiled more, looking like a princess seated there. I was so very blessed to be with her that moment, for she had received the Holy Spirt. How wonderful to have shared her most beautiful experience, amen. Jesus Christ is Lord, amen and amen.

Well When and if I get the gift of tongues There are certain things i want from it. I want it to be a special thing between me and god, whether i am praying praising or just talking to him. When I begin to speak in tongues I want everything around me to sort of black out Like i do when i have to pray out loud in church. So that All i see is God and I, I have heard many great things about speaking in tongues and what it can do for the believer. And tbh I don't plan on speaking in tongues every now and then, I want to do this all the time because lets be honest speaking in tongues is sort of like a special way to let the two hearts of god and the child of God to connect.

However I rarely get answered prayer so the question arises( What will be different this time?) I know I have the faith required but perhaps i just don't know how to pray.

Blain, from my walk, the one given to me by Jesus Christ, I believe all of my prayers are answered. Sometimes the answer is not exactly what I may have petitioned, and sometimes when I want yes, I get no, but they are all answered. As I grow old, I have noted many times I will not petition something, but simply think about it, not daring to ask for anything so trivial as I have in mind, and it is answered without asking. It is as though the Father is showing me just how much He cares for each of us. Remember the power of prayer is not in the person praying ever. Also, there are times when a person's prayer is more influential than others, for example when someone has a disease or illness, and that person disregards his or her own needs to pray for others with a right and willing spirit. The Father is tickled pink when someone has that kind of care for others. As for speaking in tongues, not all have that gift, but you already possess many gifts in Yeshua, and those gifts will bear even more fruit of the Holy Spirit. I do believe this. God bless you and hold you close forever in Jesus Christ, amen.

Things do not black out when you pray in tongues. It's like any other prayer. I use it when I start praying for intercession, healing and prophecy, just to be in touch with God. I prayed in tongues with Anna, as she was dying. It meant a lot to her. She loved praying in tongues, could do it for hours sometimes. It's just a special heavenly language between you and God.

message for the tongue-talkers out there:

a particular question for the tongue-talkers who claim to be interpreters of someone else's babbling:

you know you're lying. how can you continue to do it? and attribute this chaos to God?

G. Campbell Morgan described the Azusa Street activities as "the last vomit of Satan."
("From Holy Laughter to Holy Fire" by Michael L. Brown, pages 197 & 198)
He's tall he's scraggly, with a dirty ZZ-Top look to him. He stands on the corner ranting about how cars died in '45, while they whiz by all around him. His demise will be when he steps off the curb without looking and gets broadsided by something he doesn't believe exists, even as it swarms around him.

And BTW I risked rotting in a Columbian prison cell to smuggle money and medicine to the slum churches of Bogata, and it was a prayer language covering over the bags that made them the only two bags out of 2 dozen that were not opened and searched. I'm sorry Bookreader, have you been to aid African churches in any language?

What I said was that I am in a study group and the people who are teaching this particular study are believers in Oneness and I had never really come across this belief so I asked people here what they thought and for scripture to back it up. Also I never ever said speaking in tongues was gibberish, that is not what I think of it at all. I'm really not into picking apart people on TV, I don't watch them much so I really have no opinion on that matter. I just know my personal experience I go to a couple churches actually and both of them preach right from the Bible I can read along with them if I want....pretty sure the Bible itself cannot be considered a heresy.
