I cannot understand why any of the gifts would have ceased. That makes no sense to me.
Unless Christians understand that sign gifts (signs, wonders, and miracles) had a specific purpose in authenticating the ministries of Jesus of Nazareth and His apostles, they will not understand why they ceased. As to tongues, prophecies, and supernatural knowledge, they ceased because the Bible was complete, and there would be no more genuine prophecies or revelations after the book of Revelation.

Christ warned us that false apostles and false prophets would come after him, using signs, wonders, and miracles. The ultimate deception would be by the Antichrist and the False Prophet.

And then shall that Wicked [the Antichrist] be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. (2 Thess 2:8-10)

they haven't ceased, we by and large do not know how to work in them, he is the same, yesterday today and forever.

Not true, this is what the Bible tells us-
https://www.biblehub.com/matthew/13-58.htm
Berean Study Bible
And He did not do many miracles there, because of their unbelief.

Off you go to ignore you viper.
They don't come to Jesus if they don't believe . Jesus does not refuse people when they come to him . Not even the gentile 'dog 'women in Mat 15.21 .
Your suggesting that its because they had 'no faith 'Jesus couldn't heal them , which is ridiculous.
