Jesus spoke about worrying more about what comes out of the mouth than what goes in. Wondering, you guys have done the studies, I've not... Just wondering did he say something about tatoo's/ piercings as well? Note my ears are pierced and (after I was born again), I had a belly button piercing after I had my son & had 60 lbs to lose... I was like, i'm gonna lose enough weight to get a belly button piercing without having to wear those beaded dangly ear rings for my husband to see it. It was a goal, but I soon found upon doing it it was a dumb goal. Had to wear special pants and man it hurt!! Wish I'da never done it. I didnt get it for anyone but me... in fact only my husband and best friend got to see it. Anyway, those who have studied... i'm curious. I've never repented of my belly button ring, but perhaps if I do it would finally heal over (its been 9 years & theres still that stupid hole)

The law says not to get tattoos and cuttings for the dead. But what is the TRUTH? The truth is that tattoos can no more condemn a person than eating pork or going to church on sunday. The person with the tattoo as well as the person without it , in the flesh, all end in the grave as flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. For one to hold this to be true, they must also condemn surgery and especially the kind involving some form of transplant as most parts come from the bodies of deceased organ donnors. Very well said.

I think its between God and you. Pray about it and if God seems to be ok with it then go for it. However, be careful about where you put it as employeers may not accept it. I personally would love to put the entire verse of John 14:6 on my back. Maybe some more verses after that. That way if I ever die, even my body will be a witness to those who see it after I die like the guy who cremates me. :D

How easy it is to justify willful disobedience of God's commands. The law about tattoos? That was in the O.T. The Law has passed away. The NT doesn't say anything about tattoos. That law was for the Levites. It was for the Israelites or the Jews. Tattoos don't condemn a person to hell. Having a tattoo doesn't mean a person isn't saved. My favorite has to be, I haven't felt any conviction about it.

That's absolutely perfect. :D Any sin that a person could do can be justified by lack of feeling convicted. Adultery, murder, theft, false witness, gossip, lying with a man as one lies with a woman? You bet. My conscience is clear. I don't worry about whether what I did was a sin. Therefore, it must be ok. I mean God would have told me otherwise, right? It's so, so easy to justify flouting God and His Word. And it's great too because any sin, except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, any sin, no matter what, or how bad, or how often done, can be forgiven. It must be wonderful having the assurance of salvation no matter what you do.

God's Word doesn't matter, except when it's convenient.

I know exactly what you mean. I am not saying listen to your conscience. I am saying listen to God in scripture and prayer. Since the new testament specifically does not talk about tattoos except to honor your body then you have to go to God yourself. I am in no way talking about feeling. As a Christian yourself, you should know there is a difference between feeling and God talking to you. As a Christian, God will never let sin go un-convicted in us even in a small matter.

It says in the OT not to cut your bodies for the dead. I see in that passage, "...for the dead." I don't think getting a tattoo, unless is a memorial to someone that had passed, is cutting the body for the dead.

The bible also says your body is a temple, so what's a temple without a little bit of artwork that glorifies God and his kingdom?

That's just my opinion on the matter. I, though, don't think I'll get a tattoo because skin sags with age. Got a few piercings though, and those will heal/shrink shut over time.

I agree with your post, perhaps a Christian inspired tatoo is a persons way of spreading the word and showing their faith. You never know when someone will see a cross tatoo and start to ask the questions that will lead them to Christ and the peace they've been looking for.

Indeed, I've shared this on another post about tattoos....one day in Walmart, checking out, the lady on the cash register asked me about one of mine....the one that has a shamrock, and says ''Trinity'' above it. The lady asked me about it, what it was for and said and who it was. She didn't see the word "Trinity'' very well. So I had the chance to tell her about it. That sparked up an interesting conversation, and now we're pretty much ''best of friends'' she always says ''give me a hug'' she's a Christian, but I didn't know that before! Not sure if she was one before she saw that tattoo or not, but many others have asked about my tattoo's and so I'm able to witness to them and everything. God can do anything, so who's to say that He ''can't'' use a tattoo or something to help reach others? that's putting limits on Him, which is NOT a good idea at all.

So I was thinking about how cool it'd be to get a treble celf tattoo for my next birthday.. or even better, a cross...not anything major, but just to get people to see it, perhaps on my wrist...
however, an amplified version of the bible says this..

"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the Lord."

So, what are peoples opinions? I found this unintentionally... kinda.... but I'm sure there are many out there who have had some done, I'm not sure. Hmm..
Someone correct me if I am wrong but that passage I think speaks to the Jewish people during the times of the old testament where the practice of cutting and marking yourself with tattoos was used as a way to make sure your 'god' knew you in the afterlife, so that he could recognise you which was a pagan ritual at the time. God was simply saying not to do this.

So I would say first up make sure the passage is in context, so many people look up random verses and boom, use it as support for whatever. So yeah, just make sure to get the context.

However that being said there are some other things to consider. First up you say you found the passage sort of by accident, I would think about how you feel about it personally and if you feel aside from the context that that was placed before you by God to convey a message from Him to you personally.

Recall too that your body is not your own, this is directly from the Bible, it belongs to God and - when you are married - it belongs to your partner (though this is more to do with sexuality) so think about whether this is ok in light of these things.

I don't wish to discourage you, I just want to point out some specifics. I hope that helped. :)

I withdraw my original statement. Just looked up Leviticus 19:28 on biblegateway.com. Maybe I need to not try to make an argument based just on memory, because mine sucks haha. Didn't remember it said "...nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD."

Sorry about that

But what's that got to say about piercings though? I mean, piercings aren't a print to my understanding and mine aren't for the dead. But, lets say they are a sin, and I would die now, would I be condemned for having piercings even though I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour and, from my understanding, my sins are covered past, present, and future?

In the OT, if a servant chose to remain with his master at the year of Jubilee, they would pierce his ear. It was the sign of a love-servant.

There are many people with tattoos doing Gods work these days. I think its not because of tattoos does God love a person or not of tattoos. I think God wants them all in heaven. Its whether you love God or not right??

There are some real evil people who don't have tattoos.

...
Amen! All those "whosoever will" to "seek [God] and you will find [God] when you seek [Him] with all your heart."

I will always discourage tattoos and body piercings (even excesive make-up) for the sake of keeping the "straight and narrow path" and "not go according to the heathen nations."

Nonetheless, as the hymn goes, "when we all get to heaven, what a place of rejoycing that will be when we all see Jesus..." regardless of tattoo clearance. After all, "our bodies will be transformed" as in tattoos will be discarded along with the flesh.

Let's be trusting the Lord Jesus that by His grace our names are written in the Book of Life rather than contemplating that tattoo...
