I guess John must have been stupid or blind or rejected the leadership of the SPIRIT when he was INSPIRED to use the GREEK word for CITY......MAYBE JESUS didn't know what he was talking about when he INSPIRED JOHN to use the Greek word for CITY...maybe you guys should pray to him and tell him that he was mistaken and John was mistaken and then teach them why they were wrong!

Why is one description being called the other?
Is it because they both have the adjective "great"?

Babylon is called a mystery... Sodom and Egypt is not. Seeing as to how many understand the difference in them and the nature of what they are, the scriptures stand true when calling Babylon a mystery.

Totally agree for sure......it is obvious that Babylon A.D. is a city and people refuse to acknowledge this as they like to spiritualize Revelation away into some neat little box....ONLY ONE CITY on the planet that fits all of the characteristics found in Revelation and when you add the NATION found in JEREMIAH 50-51 it becomes obvious and all to clear what nation and city are represented.....10.5 billion to one which nation and which city when the math is done, but people will continue to live in blindness until it is too late for sure.

If you try to understand Revelation by using literal meanings of words you will end up thinking Babylon is a town on Long Island. Get out of the physical and into the spiritual world my friend!!!! Revelation is a spiritual book. John saw things in the spirit. We are told clearly:
Rev 17:18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.
The woman is that great city?? Which word is literal, woman or city?? How about NEITHER. We don't have to guess who the (bad) woman is because we are told this:
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH
So who or what is the Mother of Harlots? Do you think it is the top Madam in the world? Do you think Babylon is a big Cat House some place? What is a spiritual Harlot?
Babylon is a city, right? Babylon is a woman, right? Babylon is a harlot, right? Babylon is a mystery, right? Calling Babylon a mystery is a sign post to tell us Babylon, woman, harlot and city are all SPIRITUAL terms. In this case, Babylon is a FALSE RELIGION. Satan has been trying to copy and out do God from Day 1. This is very personal to God. From the beginning Satan corrupted God's creation and caused Adam and Eve to fall. God's creation was so corrupted that God sent the Great Flood to start over. Immediately after that Ham slept with Noah's wife and born Canaan from where we get the Caananites. Satan has been going after Israel for centuries. Then Satan tries to kill Jesus by murdering all 2 year old boys then finally he gets Him on the cross, but that back fires. Now Satan is attacking the church. He invented Islam in the 6th century to compete with Chrisitanity. Next Satan will send his False Messiah before the real Messiah comes in an effort to deceive us into worshiping him. Man, do you see how far back this goes and how personal this is between God and Satan? We are all just bit players in all this.

Okay, my friend, you go ahead and keep thinking Babylon the Great, Mother of Harlots is Babylon, NY. That place didn't even exist 300 years ago so I'm not sure how the blood of the prophets and slain of the earth got there. But according to you they did so let's leave it at that.

Here is how what I am saying can be correct.....
The mystery religion that was started by Nimrod has been woven into the history of the kingdoms of significance while at the same time being represented by the CHIEF city of the kingdom or nation that was in it's day the medium by which Satan has worked his plan continually to bring about humanity under one man, (anti-Christ, beast) and is going to culminate at the end of the age.

Granted, there can be a babylonian spiritual nature that a person chooses of by their own freewill to join themselves with, but if you read all of the Scriptural perimeters/descriptions, there's only one place that fits the Bill.
There's about 99 different descriptions from the O.T. to Revelation that speak of Babylon A.D. & only one city on earth meets all 99 descriptions of "that great City". The majority of the Scriptures about her are literal and a very few are figurative. Definitely 'a place', and what goes on at that place is clearly described even just in the Revelation alone.
I read those descriptions that someone was kind enough to find and give out and Manhattan/NYC apparently is the only great city on earth that met all 99 descriptions. But no worry - He doesn't make an end to her until He is just about to return, or is returning, after the pouring out of the 7th Vial of His wrath.
And "the beast" is in Manhattan as well, - the UN with another similar newer [possibly even more powerful] group that is only a stone's throw from it.
This is not a salvational belief - we're just talking, so I hope this doesn't get to be a hot topic.

Now you are starting to make more sense. Exactly, the Pharisees where a type of spiritual Babylon. Babylon, the great city, is called spiritually, Sodom and Egypt. It is in this "city" that the two witnesses (OT/Israel and NT/Church) will be "slain."
Sodom represents all forms of sexual sin and Egypt represents unbelief/atheism. The Pharisees were unbelievers who denied the deity of Christ thus Christ was killed in that spiritual city. Rome was a spiritual descendant of Sodom famous for her orgies and sexual deviancy.

Indeed the Revelations (13:13) tells quite strickly what kind of false prophet we should expect.
The false prophet is great wonder-maker who even be able to make fire come down from heaven.
Who out of real true prophet ever done such thing - Elias only.
Whom jews expect to bring Mossiah in Jerusalem - prophet Elies.
It is obvious that false prophet will be false Elias.
And the both beast (false Elias and Antichrist) will be in war with two witnesses (real Elias and Enoch).
