For over 1000 years this problem has been discussed and debated. How could every race on earth (white, brown, black, yellow etc) all come from a single pair Adam and Eve? We know this is not scientifically possible. So what is the answer?

I have studied into this topic and these are some of the available answers:

1. Adam and Eve were one race and only gave birth to one race - The bible does not concern any of the other races on earth. The bible was a local book written by ancient Hebrews and they did not know of any other races existance.

2. Adam and Eve were not a single mating pair - The words Adam and Eve were more than one people, ie plural, perhaps an Adam and Eve for each race. So there were "many adams and many eves".

3. Adam and Eve did not exist. It is a complete fairytale or a story not to be read as literal.

4. Adam and Eve were one race and gave birth to one race of peoples, yet God created other races seperately after the Tower of Babel.

5. Eve was genetically superior than modern day women and could give birth to different coloured races.

6. Adam and Eve gave birth to one race only, the other races came about by evolution.

7. Adam and Eve gave birth to one race only, the other races came from aliens or other beings.

8. Each race on earth was created seperately (polygenism).

9. Adam and Eve did not exist, every race on earth evolved from a common ancestor (evolution).

10. Adam and Eve were a unique race, a mixture of all races and gave birth to every race on earth.

11. There were pre-Adamite human beings before Adam and Eve, and the bible only concerns Adam and Eve and their offspring not the other races.

12. Adam and Eve were one race, the other races came about by degeneration.

So which do you believe is the correct answer?

Greetings,
There is only (1) race on the face of the Earth and that is the Adamic race if you believe in the Bible. This Adamic race consists of various nationalities, ethnicities and people groups (tribes). The theory of humanity consisting of multiply races comes from Darwinism because if you have more than one race of people you have to have multiple Adams and Eves. You can thank Darwinism- by way of- the public school system for spreading this doctrine. Now, the question arises, "how did we get so many different people groups and shades from only two people?" Here's a few notes I pulled out of the archives that might shed some light on this issue:
Adam and Eve were most likely dark-skinned as-well. The reason for this conclusion is that the high level of genetic diversity observed in African people groups indicate that they are the oldest of all people groups. If you look at their genetic structure it encompasses all non-African populations. The genetic fingerprints of all non-African people groups constitute a subset of the African DNA sequences (referred to as Haplotypes). All genetic markers found in Europeans trace back to recent east African populations located near the middle east making a strong argument for Adam and Eve being very similar to African people groups with a semi-dark or mulatto complexion. After studying Y-chromosomes, and mitochondrial DNA sequences we can trace the bottleneck of the Y-chromosome (i.e biological evidence for the authenticity of the flood) to the flood during Noah's day. We can trace the mitochondrial DNA (i.e. x-chromosomes) back even further considering there was more diversity of female DNA aboard the ark (e.g. the wives of Noah's sons weren't closely related) giving us an accurate timetable of the age of various people groups.

William:

Yes the bible only mentions one race - The Adamic race, with hardly any mention of any other races. The Adamic race consists of various ethnicities? How do you know this?

The theory of multiply races comes from Darwinism? Not at all. Darwin was a strong believer that only one race existed and that it has a common single origin.

You also pasted in that Adam and Eve could of been dark skinned? Not a shred of evidence for this. The hebrew word for Adam means "blusher" or "to show red in the face" (look it up) - only light skinned people can do this. Red does not show in the face of a dark skinned person. The bible was written in the middle east, not in Africa.

Genesis 11

1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. 3 Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. 4 And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. 6 And the LORD said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city. 9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

You must be the only person in the world William who believes that Darwin supported multiple origins. Darwin was a strong believer in the single origin theory of human origins, do you know what common descent is?

Charles Darwin argued for the monogenesis of the human species, seeing the common origin of races as a natural consequence of evolutionary theory all connected and all from the same origin. The single-origin hypothesis of humankind is popular becuase of Darwin. Most early Church members were polygenists - Ie they believed each race has a seperate origin.

Two Biblical polygenists and scientists (who believed there had been many adams and eves and that each race was created separate) were involved in debates with Charles Darwin.

These scientists (anthropologists) were:

Josiah Nott and George Gliddon:

Charles Darwin opposed Nott and Gliddon's polygenist (and creationists) arguments in his 1871 The Descent of Man, arguing for a monogenism of the species. Darwin conceived the common origin of all humans (aka single-origin hypothesis) as essential for evolutionary theory. Darwin cited Nott and Gliddon's arguments as an example of those classing the races of man as separate species; Darwin disagreed and he concluded that humanity is one species.

In their books, Nott and Gliddon argued that the races of mankind occupied distinct zoological provinces and did not originate from a single pair, they both believed God had created each race and positioned each race in separate provinces. The doctrine of zoological provinces outlined in types of mankind did not allow for superiority of one type of race over another, each type was suited to its own province, and was superior in its own area. Nott claimed that because races were created in different provinces, that each race types must be of equal antiquity. However Nott and other polygenists such as Gliddon believed that the biblical Adam means "to show red in the face" or "blusher"; since only light skinned people can blush, then the biblical Adam must be the Caucasian race.

Nott claimed that the writers of the Bible had no knowledge of any races except themselves and their immediate neighbors, and that the Bible does not concern the whole of the earth's population. According to Nott there are no verses in the Bible which support monogenism and that the only passage the monogenists use is Acts 17:26, but according to Nott the monogenists are wrong in their interpretation of that verse because the "one blood" of Paul's sermon only includes the nations he knew existed, which were local.

You might want to read up on polygenism here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygenism

Fazale Rana; leading Bio-Chemist and author of 'Who was Adam?' (cf. chapter 8 pg. 125)
Fazale Rana is a biblical creationist who believes he has genetic evidence for noahs flood. He writes articles for the Reasons to Believe creationist organisation. He is not an anthropologist.

No it doesn't
Ruddy"...The word Adam is translated from a Hebrew word "aw-dawm." (Strong's Concord
ance, #119 and #120)

The word "Adam" means "ruddy" (#120), To SHOW BLOOD (in the face), FLUSH OR TURN ROSEY, BE (made) RED (ruddy)." (As in rosy cheeks or in a blushing face.) This cleary shows that the Hebrew meaning of the word "Adam" is "one who shows blood in the face," identifying him as a WHITE MAN. Adam was ruddy...he could blush...he could show blood in the face... he can turn red in the face due to a fair complexion.

ummm you are a few centuries late Unknown. most Christians believe that all mankind comes from Adam and Eve.....and yeah Darwin proposed something called the "Origin of Species" which talked about species developing over time. However science and most people define species as a group of organisms that are able to produce sexually fertile offspring when mated together.

As for the racist "white man" trash. lets just nip that at the bud. compare human faces to lets see........

hmm as for blushing all skin colors of Humanity blush. it just looks different. it is a built in HUMAN thing...

"Blushing from embarrassment is governed by the same system that activates your fight-or-flight response: the sympathetic nervous system. This system is involuntary, meaning you don't actually have to think to carry out the processes"

Discovery Health "Why do people blush?"

It's not "racist" to say Adam was a White man. If someone was on here saying Adam was a black man you would be all for it... but oh nooo someones used the word White - and it's racist!

Secondly pasting in pictures of animals. Please paste in a picture of a dark skinned human being who can blush in the face. - Impossible.

You see Adam according the the ancient Hebrew of the bible - Is to show red in the face. Only light skinned people can blush. Adam was a light skinned man. - I have heard some people say he was Native American. That is a possibility! But as you see... it can only be a light skinned race.

Where was the bible written in the middle east, you see light skin is present there. The hebrews were light skinned. It may not be politically correct to use the word "white" but this is what the bible says about Adams race! The bible! Hebrew word for Adam means red in the face - Only light skinned people can do this! Adam light skinned.... get over it! That is what your bible says!

actually if someone claimed that Adam was "black" I would say it was racist as well....

I have dark skinned human friends who blush.

but that is not what the Bible says. give me scripture and verse and we will look at it in the original Hebrew and the different translations.

of the word "adam"

can't find the source right now but it basically states there are three ways to interpret the word Adam, though spelled the same they are pronounced differently and have different meanings. one means mankind, one means created from dirt, and one means red in color.

but here are some verses... Notice "adam" is translated as "man"....

Genesis
1:26 God said, 'Let us make man with our image and likeness. Let him dominate the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock animals, and all the earth - and every land animal that walks the earth.'

1:27 God [thus] created man with His image. In the image of God, He created him, male and female He created them.

Vayivra Elohim et-ha'adam betsalmo betselem Elohim bara oto zachar unekevah bara otam.

2:7 God formed man out of dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils a breath of life. Man [thus] became a living creature.
Vayitser Adonay Elohim et-ha'adam afar min-ha'adamah vayipach pe'apav nishmat chayim vayehi ha'adam lenefesh chayah.

Hi Unknowable,

What do you define as race... are not europeans..human, are not native americans..humans, are not asians..human and the list goes on.

Are not all the people of the world one race..human, yes we may look different but are we not still all human beings?

Hello....

There is now and always has been only ONE RACE: Human.

We are all of one blood, one original parentage.

Only scientific ignorance would suggest that you cannot get the present diversity from an original pair. Someone needs to do a study of dominant and recessive traits as well as adaptation.
